DD's BF committed suicide last night, Memorial Service UPDATE #190

Whew! I am so, so glad & relieved all went well at the Memorial Service. Both familes are still in my prayers & thoughts. May you all begin this part of the healing phase with some sense of calm and unity.

An acquaintance of my son's took his life while DS was a sophomore. The catalyst was his girlfriend breaking up with him, but we found out that he had a history of depression, unsuccessful suicide attempts, drug use, etc.

I always hoped that his girlfriend understood that she wasn't to blame in any way!

I'm so glad that you've gotten counseling for your DD, and that the service went alright. Thank goodness his Mom came to some understanding of the situation.

I'm so glad the service went as well as could be expected, and that his parents were welcoming to your dd. I can't imagine all of the pain you are facing right now, continued thoughts and prayers.

I just wanted to update all of you that we did go to the memorial service today. It was terribly sad. The boy was very well liked and had a huge turnout. I know I have mentioned how scared I was of this memorial service but it was the best possible outcome. The parents opened their hearts to DD and told her how much their son loved her. It was so sad to watch them with her. We cried with them and they know exactly how much we all loved their dear son. I will never understand how he could do it. I just pray that his family finds peace.

Thank you all so much for your support during this difficult time. You have all helped more than you know.

What a horrible situation, to lose your 17yr old to suicide. It would seem worse that it was here at the holidays but when I think about it I guess this is such a tragedy that the time of year is irrelevant. Those parents will never be the same.
And I also really feel for your dd. She will have to understand that although she and bf did just break up this suicide wasn't about a breakup. It was about a very troubled young man who's issues went far beyond his relationship to her. She cannot carry the guilt for something she is not responsible for but it will be hard for her not to at times I am sure.
The whole thing is just so sad.
