DDP Users - what do you pay OOP for?

Just trying to budget for our trip 4 adults, no kids. What expenses, besides alcohol, could I expect to pay OOP for?

This depends on your normal eating habits to be honest.

When we have been and paid oop we enjoy a ts breakfast and dinner each day and snack in between. We went on ddp last year and thought we would 'manage' on cs for one meal a day but we were wrong. We obviously paid for alcohol and tips, also for a gardengrocer delivery for water etc. The one snack credit per day the kids used as their 'treat' and took healthy snack from gardengrocer. Our one snack credits we used one night at the F&W festival.

We hated eating the small unhealthy breakfast on counter service so ended up paying oop for five further breakfasts too.

We are going to give the DXDP a try this trip but will take advantage of the free ddp again in 2011 and just add what we need to for it to work for our family.

All this said there was plenty of food - just not the right kind of food for our family.

Appetizers. My family loves appetizers and since we elected for the regular dining plan this time we will have to pay out of pocket for the appetizers.

You will have to pay for any appetizers, any type of snack you want if you want more than one a day, and don't forget the tips on all TS meals are not included any more.

On the regular dining plan we paid for tips of course and then drinks during the day. We also found ourselves buying extra breakfasts whether they were TS or CS. This trip we are doing the deluxe DP and I honestly don't think I will pay anything OOP except for tips and if I have an adult beverage or two.

For us . . . not much!

As another pointed out - tips, of course, since they're not included. But, beyond that - we've always had 'extra' snacks that we end up collecting a bunch of stuff on our last night to take home with us!

But, it just sort of 'fits' how we eat. I had Luna bars/etc for us to grab on our way out to catch the bus to the parks. We always do an 'early' lunch. Grab a snack if we needed it (often we'd just split a drink &/or pretzel or the link between 2 of us). And then an 'early' dinner. And we always felt like we'd eaten really well.

Appetizers if we want them and a bottle of wine with dinner if there's something we're interested in (or can be talked into trying....it's really not too hard, either!) We do the regular DDP, CS, TS, and snack

We pay for TS breakfasts. We don't like CS breakfast and would rather have TS breakfast. We don't use TS credits for breakfast. Also, appetizers to share, adult beverages, tips, and water/soda at the parks. We use our snack credits for better choices than soda/water.

I'm doing the regular DP for the first time soon as well. Happy to see all the responses are about what I expected to pay OOP.

It is just DH and I and we always use the DDP.

What we plan for is paying dinner tips with cash. (we look at the menus and get a sense of what we will be having and prepare for that.

We also plan an extra snack or 2 for each day, whether it be for water/pop or a sweet treat.

Thanks so much for your help! I appreciate it.

I did know about tips, but I didn't anticipate wanting a TS breakfast. But that makes a lot of sense, especially later in the week when we need more A/C and relaxation and less running around in the morning!

How much is water in the parks? I believe its $2.99 in DLR?

When we were there in Dec 09, a bottle of Dasani Water was $2.59 (if I remember right), then there was another bottle offered for about a dollar more.

There are four of us and we drink between us about 12 bottles of water a week - that's 84 bottles at from memory $2.50 or about $200 for the week. I can get the same amount for about $40 from gardengrocer (plus I like to order my American peanut butter to bring home - can't get the extra crunchy jif here!!!):lmao:

Oh wow $200! Well, like many, I'm a huge huge water fan :worship:.

We'll have a car so we'll make a stop to get a pack or 2...or 4. :lmao: Noway am I using my snack credit for bottled water!

Oh you too?? I grew up with that stuff. I don't even like peanuts or peanut butter but "real" peanut butter (aka America PB) is my ultimate indulgence. Then last year someone suggested I don't pack it for flying as it gives false readings on the security scanners (?????) at the airport. :sad2:

A lot of the time that is the smart thing to do. I learnt though that it is better for us to use our snack credits on waters and sodas than to have a whole bunch left over at the end of the trip. You can only take so many snacks with you on the plane .......

If you can get through your snack credits without too much trouble, by all means, save them for something more exciting. But if you tend to have lots left over, you are just buying something else that you may not have had you used them for what you actually needed, as opposed to what you felt you had to do with them. This, IMO is just shifting the category of the same extra expense.

Good point! If I'm in the parks and need it, I'll use it for that thirst quenching refreshment. I just also want all those goodies on the snack picture thread! YUM!

I totally agree. :thumbsup2 I just learnedfor us, midway through a trip, that banking credits for "good" use was going to be rather counter productive if we were paying for things OOP and then being forced to spend them under pressure at the end. Many people don't have a problem using at least a reasonable amount but for 2 people over 16 days to have nearly 30 SC's left ..... well that is just silly :lmao:
