I am going to be heading to WDW in a few weeks and haven't been since they got rid of the appetizer being included in the DDP. Do they allow you to substitute a dessert for an appetizer at a Table Service restaurant?

99% of the time, no they will not. But it never hurts to ask your server when you're there.

Occasionally they will allow something like a side salad or cup of soup as a substitution, not a real off the menu appetizer.

Although they may not substitute an appetizer for the included dessert, we've always been able to get fruit for dessert instead of the desserts on the menu.

I've asked twice. At Sanaa they let two of us exchange our dessert credits for the bread service to share. At Sebastian's Bistro I was alone and wanted the pull apart bread instead of dessert. That was a no go.

At Narcoossee's I was allowed to substitute a dessert for the lobster bisque and at 50s PrimeTime Cafe a modified Iceberg Lettuce Wedge [technically I shouldn't have been able to, but the server just made it up as a salad with bleu cheese dressing].

It's pretty limited and open to server discretion to a point [mostly soup or salad substitutions]. I might see this year if Chefs de France would allow me french onion or lobster bisque in lieu of a dessert, but I'm not counting on it.
