First off let me tell you there will be no pictures in this review. I must apologize to all of you food porn lovers. I am forgetful at best when it comes to taking pictures. Add in two small children and a husband who would most likely crawl under the table if I'd started taking pics of our food and that pretty much explains why the few pics we have are of the kids.
The cast of characters on this trip are
DH - rapidly approaching 40 who loves chicken and fish. He's watching his cholesterol and isn't a big junk food eater. He also isn't crazy about desserts. He'd rather eat another piece of chicken or fish than have dessert.
Me(DWS - 33 - trip planner and pretty much a nonadventurous eater. I love steak but avoid any kind of sweet sauces or "strange" spices. By strange I mean I pretty much stick to salt, pepper, garlic, and Italian seasonings. I love junk food and dessert.
DS - 3 1/2 - pretty much sticks to the basic kid food groups - mac-n-cheese, chicken nuggets, fries, and pasta with butter and "Jimmy" cheese. We've renamed grated parm cheese after him and put it on almost anything he eats. He thinks it's special and will eat a lot more food if "his" cheese is on top of it.
DD - 17 months - loves all food. Seriously, this child has never come across a food she did not eat. She ate from our plates on this trip and loved everything we fed her.
This trip was planned a ways back, and when I called in December for our ADRs I was able to get everything I wanted. I made some adjustments along the way because traveling with two small children is not an exact science, and on our last two days we wanted more park time rather than sitting down for dinner and breakfast. We used the DDP and had more than enough food for the four of us. My issue with the dining plan is this: I'd rather be able to choose between and appy or dessert. We are not big dessert eaters, and it would have been nice to have a choice. Other than that we had no issues with service or tipping.
I'll be reviewing the following restaurants:
Columbia Harbor House - dinner
Roarin' Forks - breakfast, lunch, dinner
Pecos Bill's - lunch
Cape May buffet - dinner
Mama Melrose - lunch
Le Cellier - dinner
California Grill
Crystal Palace - breakfast
Sunshine Seasons - lunch
Beaches and Cream - lunch
We left PA at 4:10 A.M on Friday, June 20 bound for FL or wherever it was we had to stop because we were too tired to drive. Our final destination that night was the Hampton Inn in Tamessaee (?) South Carolina. Along the way we stopped for a quick breakfast at a Sheetz in Maryland. Nothing spectacular - just some Scmuffins to keep our stomachs from growling too loudly. Our lunch stop was at a Chick Fil A in VA. My son loves CFA with a passion. This is one of the only places where he'll eat all of his food and ask for more. DH and I also really like this as a fast food option, and our sandwiches, nuggest, and fries were very good. I guess they were still worried about serving tomatoes because my sandwich didn't have any on it, even though I ordered the "deluxe". Everyone was polite as could be, something that's very apparent once you get south of the Mason-Dixon line. We stopped at a Cracker Barrel for dinner. I got to have my favorite chicken tortilla soup, which I guess is a "summer" feature. I love it and had more on our stop at CB on our way home. DH and I both got soup and BLTs (again, no tomoatoes). They never told us they weren't serving tomatoes, so the sandwiches were seriously lacking. DS had mac-n-cheese and shared with DD.
The next morning we grabbed some stuff from the Hampton Inn's breakfast selections. It was enough to tide us over until lunch. Lunch was at McDonald's somewhere in FL. The food was actually very good. I love their fries, even though I know how terrible they are for you.
