DDP questions

Hi all,

Am considering the free DDP vs room discount at WL. We have 2 sons, a 6 yr old who eats well, and a 3 yr old who's very picky.

We have a couple of questions about the basic DDP:

* can one order any entree when using a TS credit? For example, at Le Cellier there are entrees which cost $35. The cost of a Le Cellier dinner (incl dessert and drink) would be more than the $39.99 daily cost of the plan. Is this where one can get even more value out of the DDP?

* We want to try a couple of buffets but don't want to spend the $11-14 for our 3 yr old when he might eat very little! For buffets, DDP would be good value for kids, right? A child's buffet cost would be qual to or more than the $11/day for a child on the DDP.

I know the room discount would save about $10-20 over going with the free dining offer but this might be evened out if we go to places like Le Cellier anyway.

Thanks!

Joe

In general, yes, you can order any entree on the menu. There are very limited exceptions to this, mostly having to do with multi-course meals (such as at Restaurant Marrikesh).

As you have noted, the "value" of what you order on the plan can be significantly higher than what the face cost of the plan is, depending on where you go and what you order. Le Cellier is a good "value" deal for adults, not so much for kids (who get the same relatively generic menu there as anywhere else).

Buffets, on the other hand, work opposite -- it's a good "deal" for kids but less so for adults, because that same credit could be used for a much more expensive meal elsewhere.

Still, in the end, trying to "maximize credits" might be more trouble than it's worth. As long as you go where you want and order what the plan provides for you, you'll do fine.

If you take the room discount, have you factored the cost of food in there with your $10 to $20 savings over the free dining? If not, then free dining is a better deal for you, ya gotta eat! If you have 2kids and 2adults the plan would cost about $104 a day, are you saving that much off your room?

Made the ressie for WL package with free dining. Now to plan the ADRs! Is the 90+10 rule for WDW hotel guests still in effect?

Thanks again!

Joe

Yes, the 90 + 10 is for WDW resort guests.

What % did you have for the WL before you booked the Free DDP?

Thats great! I hope you have a wonderful trip. Ide take the free dining over most room only discounts. In the end we eat so much better and so many different places than we would if we were paying oop. My DH does try to get the most out of the DDP and usually orders some of the more expensive entrees. Im a vegetarian, so thats a little harder for me. We are a family of five, only 4 of us are on DDP (LO is under 3) I can say that for our TS meals, we usually leave with a 125-150 total for that meal, then you still have your QS and snack.

When I tried room only discount, the standard view was not available. That would have been $111 discount from 290 rack, or 38%.

Courtyard view discount is 111 / 340 rack or 33%.
