Hello, I am new to DVC and my family and I are going down in Oct. If we get the ddp do we need to get it for everyday we are there. we are going for 2 weeks and we be going out of the park for a few days. Or do we need to get it for same amount of time as our park hopper passes. thanks for any help...

Your hopper passes are not connected to your DDP. You may purchase park tickets wherever you wish when staying on points, and still get the DDP.

Rules for the DDP is that everyone on your room must be on the DDP, and it must be for the entire length of your room reservation.

If you are interested in using DDP for a portion of your stay, you could make back to back reservations. The first 1 through x days could use the DDP, and then the second reservation could be for days x+1 till the end of your vacation. You may have to check out and then check back in, but you may be able to stay in the same room making the check out / in a paperwork transaction.

If you make back to back reservations for the same room type and resort under the same name and member number, they are linked in the system and considered one reservation. You'd need to change room types or resorts to make them two completely different reservations.

If you are planning on using signature TS or want to use CS or TS credits for 2 meals in a day it still may work out. You will have to decide how many days you will not be on property. (When you say out of the park I am assuming you mean off property. ) There are many dining options outside of the theme parks that are still available on the dining plan.

If you've used DDP in the past, be sure you understand the changes in DDP 2008. DDP 2008 does NOT include either an appetizer with the TS meal, nor the gratuity.

The 2008 version is effectively a 25-30% price increase for less food.

We did the DDP last year and LOVED it!! It allowed us to try so many new places that we would've never thought about going to. When we heard about the new changes with the DDP we were very disappointed. It is A LOT of food so the appetizer thing didn't really bother us but taking the gratuity off the plan makes all the difference! We consistantly pay 20% for good service so having gratuity included really helped with those TS meals that were $120 to $150. That's an extra $24 to $30 per day for our 12 night stay. (That adds up really quickly!) We won't do the DDP this year.

Maybe...if we're lucky...they'll make another change (for the better) for 2009!?! :rotfl:

Chuck I don't think that's automatically true. I think you can make separate reservations but you would have to check out then in again and might have to move rooms. Anyone doing this needs to make sure they do not LINK the reservation as that makes it one reservation again.

thanks for getting back to me everyone. So let me get this right. To get the DDP i must (1) get it for the whole stay and for everyone in the room, or (2) make different reservations for the stay. i.e i am going for 2 weeks and will be off property for 4 days. thats 1 reservation and the rest of the time i will be on property thats the 2nd reservation. Am i correct? in that case i might not get the ddp. I will have to sit down and think about that one. thanks again.

If I understand your post, you'll have a DVC room reservation, then move to an offsite hotel for 4 days, then back to DVC for the remainder of your trip?

Then yes, you can get the DDP for either one, or both, of your DVC stays, as they will be totally separate reservations. But it must be for all people in the room for the length of that reservation. DVC doesn't make the rules pertaining to the DDP, it is only available to DVC because it has been negotiated with the WDW Travel Co., who controls the plan.

No i will be at my dvc room for the whole 2 weeks. I just will not be going into the park everyday. We want to do some day trips.

If you are having one reservation for 2 weeks, if you purchase the DDP you will have to have it for length of stay. That would be for every night of the reservation. You may be able to eat at some of the dinner shows or 2 TS meals to use the credits.

We were at OKW last week and purchased the Deluxe DDP for the 3 of us. This was the first time to do the DDP and decided we were going to get the most bang we could for the buck. We kept track of the cost for ALL meals and snacks and figured out we definitely got out money's worth.

We spent $1469.79 for 3 of us to be on the Deluxe DDP, but we got over $2650 worth of value for it.

I know everyone is upset about the fact that tips are no longer included, but our impression was that the waiters were actually working harder now because they were not getting an automatic tip anymore.
