Since I have a 10 yr. old and adult on the plan, I was wondering how everyones experience is with the littler kids getting jealous of the older kids getting more food and in most cases a better dessert. Will we have to be paying OOP all the time to prevent any meltdowns . I know if I was a kid and got say a cookie and older sis got say a huge piece of chocolate cake I would throw a fit. So I guess my ? is has this happened to anyone and how does everyone handle it?? OT Can the little kids get the Kona Kone with the DDP

have the older one share some of that choc cake with the younger one :)

I am not worried about with mine, I figures there will be so much food my 8yo can have a little bit of everything is she wants some.

I agree with the above poster. They have to share it! The 10 year old should be told from the beginning that they may need to share just so that it's not a surprise later once you all get there.

I know exactly what you are thinking. We just went in Jan with our kids 10, 7, and 4. DS 10 was thrilled to be on the adult menu! But esp. when it came to desert we thought it would be a huge issue. But... we came up with a great plan.

We told DS7 and DD4 that the jello/apples came with their meal. But if they were good... we would order 3 deserts for us all to share. Since at home we rarely order deserts... this was a treat! So DS 10 really didn't consider it his desert. We just shared 3!

Also... after full days in the park, I noticed that none of us had huge appetites. With all the food we got on the DDP... 3 deserts were plenty. At the CS locations we usually only ate 2 between the 5 of us and found another family to give the extra ones away to. (FYI: We are not light eaters by any stretch of the immagination normally... it was a lot of food and a lot of sun!)

So good luck and here's to a "Desert Sampler"!!!!!:hippie:

What a wonderful idea! Everybody is happy-dessert is a special treat for all. Three cheers for the Dessert Sampler!

We shared everything. I have a 10 yo and two 7 year olds. There was never a shortage of food and of sharing.

We did not pay OOP for anything and the 3 adults shared and even picked with the 2 not on the adult plan. However, I did incorporate buffets and Ohana in to our plan so they could eat exactly what we were eating.

I wrote what worked for us, in the dining review section..under "good thing my mom never"

We had no problems at all.

I'm fearing we will have the same problem next year. My DD10 will be on the adult menu and my DS7 who is a huge eater will be on the childrens menu. I'm not too worried about the desserts. My DD10 has juvenile diabetes and hopefully Disney will be able to accomodate us by having special desserts made for her but I am worried about food size. I've been hearing that its a lot of food so hopefully all of us in this situation will fine.

with my grand kids i just up graded the pal so it says she is 10 , of course were going during free food option.. so the cost was only 50.00 for the up grade and all will be fine she can eat the same food as her brother

We had the same thing in January 10yr old with 2 little sisters. For the most part, they didn't mind. On the few occassions they did, dad or mom at the kid dessert and they ordered what they wanted from the adult menu. As far as drinks, DH and I usually order water, so they could have our drink (slushes at Le Cellier and shakes at 50's prime time). The waitress at 50's was even kind enough to make 2 adult shakes and put them into 4 cups so that we could all have some.

I have a 13, 11 and 7 year old. I already have told my 2 older ones that they may be sharing with their sister. From what I have been reading it sounds like so much food for the 5 of us I really am not worried about it. We have free dining and I am not planning on paying for any food OOP!

I was wondering about the Kona Kone, too. Is that on the kid's dessert menu?

We've let our kids share too - and with dh and I too - since none of us needs THAT much dessert.

But don't forget the snack credits - if someone is still hungry or was unsatisfied with a dessert...just walk down a little and I'm sure you'll come to a bakery with yummy treats or an ice cream shop where you can get them a sundae!

We will have the same problem as our oldest is considered and adult (13). I am trying to watch what I eat so my two youngest can have my dessert. They love cheesecake and most places we are going have that or when I checked the menus have something they will love.

And if we have to we can pay OOP for an extra dessert.

On our last trip, one DD was 12, the other was 9. I just let DD9 eat my dessert. She told me what she wanted, and I ordered that. I love dessert, but found that I was always so full at WDW that I was more than happy to forego it.

I think the "Dessert Sampler" idea is a fantastic one, for adults and kids alike. It's much more fun to try lots of different desserts anyway!

Overall it was not a problem, the snack credit could be used if it was an issue. Usually they just shared and I certainly shared what I had so no problem--occasionally the year I had that problem, I let DD choose the dessert I got and we shared. Never really mattered that much to her.

You can only order the number of child and adult meals on your reservation. Who eats what once it hits the table is up to you. Sometimes allow the 10yr to chose the child meal and the 7yo to select off the adult menu. I would also make sure you have some buffets in your line up, then its a non issue for everyone.

If the 10yr old balks a bit let her know that's part of what a big sister does. I am a big sister with little brothers. Not only did I give up food from time to time I also gave up t-shirts, socks and sneakers (who wants them after your smelly brother wore them?!!:scared1: ) By the way this was a great deal for mom, I was paying for my own shoes at that point! :sad2:

My DH and I plan on sharing our desserts with our 8 year old just for that reason. The kids desserts stink in many places. Sheesh, with all the food you get, we'll have more then enough food for us, and sharing definately won't be a problem! :goodvibes

I don't know if this was posted but I have the opposite problem, at least for desserts. My DD10 wants the kiddie desserts that are offered at many TS places. Will she have a problem getting an ice cream sundae?

No, she can always get the kids make your own sundae or whatever else they are offering.
