DDP credits if you use your key card for room charges?

My title doesn't make sense! Sorry. What I am trying to say is....If you have your room key card able to do room charging and you are on the DDP do you have problems with the waiters charging to your room key instead of deducting the DDP credits?

We never did - we just made sure to tell the server we were on the DDP before ordering; when you sign the receipt when it's presented, it should show .00 next to each item you ordered and how many credits remain.

We did have a situation back in 2005 where our server didn't deduct enough credits. She only deducted one instead of two. I didn't realize it until we were leaving Epcot, so I went to our resort's front desk and they fixed it. I didn't want the server to get in trouble or not get the correct tip.

So if anything does get mixed up, your resort can resolve the issue.

We have not had that problem, but there have been a few posts here saying that a meal was erroneously charged to their room and they weren't aware of it until checkout. Apparently, if there was a problem at the point of sale, the server (or manager) just billed it to the room.

You can imagine someone's unhappiness if they are scrambling to make a flight home and, all of a sudden, they have a charge on their account from four nights ago that was supposed to be DDP!

Since I read those posts, I have always declined room charging. I'd rather just use a credit card for purchases anyway, and declining eliminates the problem.

It happened to us twice last year, both at TS restaurants. It truly was not a big deal at all--I looked at the receipts to check to make sure the number of credits deducted was correct, and noted the error. I politely returned the receipt and my KTTW card to the servers, explaining we were using DDP credits, not room charge. It only took them a minute or two to correct the error. Really, if you know how many credits you have (and I did--I tracked them obsessively) and you check your receipts after every purchase (TS, CS or SC) it shouldn't be a problem.

If you're still worried--check your hotel bill on the tv frequently or decline room charging privileges on your cards. Or even just decline on one card--we do not put charging privileges on our kids' cards (for obvious reasons), but they have full access to DDP credits, so we could just use one of their cards to "pay" for meals.

we too choose the "no charging on one card" option for our meal plans. we don't have kids so its my card that gets no charging. It eases my mind to know that a mistake can't be made, and I almost always with my DH so I just make him pay for whatever I'm buying lol.

Thanks to you all! Looks like no charging to our key card for us.

We just got back and both my dh and I had charging on our key. I just always used one of our dk cards for meals.

We have never used the DDP plan so please forgive my idiocy. What do you mean you just used one of your kids cards for the meals? Are all of the credits for the whole family usable by only one card? So, if we made mine and DH's cards able to charge to the room but our DD's not able to charge that would solve the possible mix-ups?

That is correct. All room keys including the childrens cards have the DDP connected to them. So in our case both my husband and I had our cc on our keys and I only gave out one of the kids keys whenever we ate.
It worked out great, no worries that the meal would end up on the cc card, yet both dh and I were free to use the cc if needed.

We decided it was easiest not to put any room charging on our key and avoid potential headaches. It's easy enough to carry another cc with us and a coupla bucks- and with the DDP you don't need to buy much anyway. And you know what? Psychologically, I saved money :) Less tempted to just "charge it to the room" I guess.

This is what we do, also. Prevents any chance of it happening. We always have a credit card in the park with us anyway, if we need it. We just decline room charging privileges.
