DDE versus Dining plan - I'm confused

I tried to figure this out by reading other posts but I am still confused. If I am an AP passholder, I know I can get the DDE for $50. It seems to me that the main benefit of this is a 20% discount off meals at certain restaurants (virtually every place I would go is on the list.). Do I have that right? My concern with this is that every time I've tried to use my pass to get the 10% lunch discount they offer at certain restaurants the server looks at me like I have three heads. Any feedback on some who has tried this?

Part two of my question involves the dining plan. Since I have an AP I won't need a MYW package - so does that make me not eligible to try this? How does this plan work?

Thanks!

You can only book the MYW dining plan if you do a package which includes tickets. With APS, you certainly don't need to also pay for tickets.

We used the DDE card for our Feb/March trip and like Debbie had no problems. CMs seem much more familiar with that program than with AP or DVC discounts.

I recently used the DDE and all of the servers were familiar with it. I ended up using it at Crystal Palace, Artist's Pallette, Citrico's, Jiko, Tusker House, Alfredo's, Le Cellier, Beaches & Cream, and Restaurant Marrakesh.
Wow. I used it a lot!
