DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning all. Busy day with errands today.
Sure beats the heck out of working, though.

Except I do have a work Teams meeting in an hour. At first I was "No way in heck am I doing that."
Then I was told that they're paying overtime for it. So, I'll log in, say "Here" at the roll call... and promptly ignore it.

Went Friday night, that was the first performance DD was in, and will be there again today, and it went well
:)
She also knows her choreography as well. I can see some of the other kids looking to her to see what they are supposed to be doing.
I remember those days. Mine were like that too.
Today I'll get to see the 'Littles' dance. The littles are the wee small ones, kindergarten age kids. The ones where them dancing doesn't matter, they just look cute in their outfits on stage.
They're always hilarious.
Every year there was at least one that would wave to their parents, one that would be showing another how to do the dance and one that would pee on stage.
Here's one of the pictures I took during the performance Friday night. I almost missed it, that's why it isn't centered.
Nice shot, though.
Hate those long shifts, the longest in my job is only 10. Are all of your shifts 12 hours, or do you have 8 hour shifts as well?
We work 8 hour shifts. But it's pretty common to be asked to come in either 4 hours early or stay 4 hours late. We're too short staffed. Training 3 guys right now with another 2 in the fall or spring supposedly.
And I say "I would have missed something," because I would have had to change lenses, added a flash and diffuser and the go and take pictures. Sure, I could have, but I would have missed some of the dances, not something I wanted to do. There's also the problem in that the dancers use the auditorium to get ready during rehearsals, and using flash, even pointed away from the stage, wouldn't have been appreciated by the director.
I didn't use flash backstage because I wanted to be as unposed and natural as possible.
WOW! Hope all are ok
Pretty sure most are... but loss of property for sure.
I knew it! That was the same movie scene, from the same M*A*S*H episode that popped into my head when I read that.
::yes::
I always hated going through training because 1) I hated not knowing what I was going, and 2) I hated having to take someone away from their job, so I'm sure the trainee hated the training part as well.
Last time I went through it, I wound up training my trainer more than the other way around!
I love dance photography, but the problem with shooting dance is that I don't know the choreography, so I tend to shoot a lot of pictures knowing that not all of them are keepers.
::yes:: I remember that. Eventually, though, I'd see it enough (multiple competitions) that I knew the choreography.

Afternoon all.

Couple days of working for myself after a few days in a row in the garden center. Lots of lawnmowers being sold after the end of no mow May.

Good to see Zerf make an appearance in these parts.

Have a good one all.

Hey, Gents! Having a good week so far, so nothing to report on that end. The DD's been out of school since last Friday, and been spending it at the in-law's house. According to my DW, she's been helping Nana in the garden this week. If that's the case, I see a little helper with my garden! :teeth: The DW's last day at school (the DW teaches at the same school that my DD goes to) is this Friday, last of the school year stuff for the teachers.

Never fun running errands, but it does beat working.

Except I do have a work Teams meeting in an hour. At first I was "No way in heck am I doing that."

:thumbsup2 Atta boy! Do your bit to get paid the overtime but nothing more.

:)

I remember those days. Mine were like that too.

:thumbsup2

:rotfl: Yes to all but peeing onstage.

Nice shot, though.

Thanks.

Ah, got it. Hopefully those new guys will be able to alleviate some of the OT for you guys.

I didn't use flash backstage because I wanted to be as unposed and natural as possible.

I see what you're saying. I didn't actually get backstage, wanted to, but didn't. I was giving specific permission saying I could, and didn't want to just assume and start walking around backstage, so I didn't. Maybe next time.

Pretty sure most are... but loss of property for sure.

That just hurts me knowing that people lost property like that. I hope they all recover.

:thumbsup2

Last time I went through it, I wound up training my trainer more than the other way around!

 Love when that happens. I had that happen last year when I was training for my current job. I had learned several things that the trainer didn't know, so it was a nice feeling knowing that I taught that person something.

::yes:: I remember that. Eventually, though, I'd see it enough (multiple competitions) that I knew the choreography.

In the past I'd get into rehearsals at the studio and take a few pictures and watch the choreography, but because of COVID I've not been able to do that. I've seen dance enough that, while I can't predict it, I can get a sense of what might come next. So some in cases I was right in knowing that they were setting up some kind of jump.

Dang. Wish I'd thought of that when my DDs were younger.

You think so? I never noticed it until much later. They've got it down to a science. Kids come off, lights go down, teacher dashes out with a mop, cleans up and off stage. Next group goes on, lights, action.
Ah, got it. Hopefully those new guys will be able to alleviate some of the OT for you guys.
I have mixed feelings about it. I like the extra income... but am sure getting burned out.
I see what you're saying. I didn't actually get backstage, wanted to, but didn't. I was giving specific permission saying I could, and didn't want to just assume and start walking around backstage, so I didn't. Maybe next time.
I had various reasons for being backstage. Either I was dancing too, or, at recitals, I was working.
 Love when that happens. I had that happen last year when I was training for my current job. I had learned several things that the trainer didn't know, so it was a nice feeling knowing that I taught that person something.
::yes::
This is both accurate... and tragic.
