DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
They don't stock that part anymore and if I want them to "fix" it, it'll mean a replacement salt system. That was the bad news.
The 2nd bad news was that it would cost over $2,000.

I went to a pool supply place here in town. They said they're getting the part in, in two weeks or so. I need to buy a PVC pipe boring tool to ream out the fittings and hope to be able to fix it myself. We'll see. Don't know how much the part will be (the tool is <$40), but I'm betting a few hundred bucks. Worth trying.

Keep us posted! This will either be a DIY success tale, or a really great story.

I can't goof off online.

NOOOOOOOOOO

I didn't try to marry her off and move her out of the house, but I thought about it.

:rotfl2: Well, there's always next time.

Afternoon chaps from an overcast London. I am in a "inclusivity" session on a day long work call, talking about empathy and micro-aggression. If someone could send me a couple of sharpened pencils to shove up my nose so I can end it all now, I'd be most grateful.

That sounds a bit agressive

Shoving pencils up his nose would cause catastrophic damage, and thus be considered a "macro-aggression", which is decidedly outside the purview of the course. Carry on.

Whelp... the pool repair-dude came this morning. He took one look and said "Do you want the bad news or the bad news?"

Uh, oh...

Good luck with all that

Not showing much empathy for the poor chaps running said session

always have enjoyed working in an area that I had all to myself.
::yes::
Well....that kind of sucks. Hope you can do it cheaper when the part comes in.
me too!
I know, but I was being nice as I'm still new. However, I'm hoping that because I yelled back it says that I'm not one to be pushed around. We'll see how that goes.
::yes::
Neither do I. I'm not going to go out of my way to irritate her, but I'm not going to be a push over either. If she pushes me, I'll push back. At some point she'll understand that as long as you're nice to me, I'll be nice to you.
People like that usually either respond positively or will at least leave you alone.
Yeah, I think she's done with that song.
She should just let it go.
Sorry to hear about the pool part. Hopefully, you can manage it as cheaply as possible.
Yeah, me too.
Have you checked amazon? When we moved in, our neighbor was having a pool put in. We got ti talking about salt cells and cost and he said you can get them as cheaply or cheaper on amazon because the folks there buy them in bulk.

Just a thought.
Holy crap! You're brilliant! I thought "Amazon? For that? But... they have it! And it's only $120!
Keep us posted! This will either be a DIY success tale, or a really great story.
Will do!
Good luck with all that
Thanks!

Back for a second post. Cut the grass and played tennis today, and now watching US Open. Serena is struggling in this early round match, losing her serve, which is quite unusual. Her career may be ending. She was a dominant player and had a great career.

I hope you gave the new boyfriend the evil eye. I'm not sure I could pull it off as my DD knows I'm a nice guy, but when she gets to dating age, when she's 30, I'll give it a try.

My girls tell them other people say I look intimidating. I guess it's just the fat roll. :lmao:

I found putting one of my targets from the range in the front entryway highly effective.

I did ask him he likes to shoot guns as much as I do, and if he wanted to go out shooting with me. :scared1:

Micro-aggression. Once those racism promoting statues are down, the world can address micro-aggressions. Good luck. At home, DW had a Skype meeting with the Director who led them all in yoga. As she turned off her screen, as a few others had also done, and I got to watch the silliness with her. Pathetic. Gotta waste that money somehow.

She's 38. I'm thinking she's gotta be slowing a bit?

Hey, Gents! So yesterday was a fun filled day of work. NOT! OMG! I can tell ya that it's not for the lack of trying, but something's gotta change. I keep asking for work, but I'm not given much. Ok, to be fair things were really busy the end of last month (end of month is always busy) and people didn't want to take the time out of their extremely busy schedules to teach me, I can understand that. The paralegal who sits in my area had on average 3 closings a day for most of last week, and that's extremely busy, so totally get that. She was so busy she didn't want to take the time to explain anything to me, and it was easier for her not to. And being the first of the month things are slow right now, but I do know that my boss/attorney has received several new files/clients, so I'm hoping to be able to jump on some of these...Lord knows it's not for the lack of trying. I mentioned to my boss/attorney yesterday at the end of the day that I'd like to start working on some Purchase and Sale Agreements, Deeds and Power of Attorney's and she agreed, so hoping that happens. Even though I have said I couldn't do this, I spend most of yesterday goofing off online. The office manager isn't in on Thursdays, so that helped in me being able to do that. I'm trying to be proactive by asking for work and even doing a lot of Googling of real estate transactions so I can learn and understand what's going on, and what not so I can understand what's going on, or try to. I'm going to bring it up to my boss/attorney and someone else, managing partner(?), that I'd like to start working on my own files, so hopefully that'll make things change. I know, I've only been there a month, give it time, but just feel frustrated right now. Ok, that was longer than I intended, but that felt good, thanks for listening. I know it comes down to switching careers, kind of did when I went from litigation to real estate, but still frustrating.

Nice. Good work.

NOOOOOOOOOO

I know, right?! But yesterday was an exception.

So far so good, so we'll see how long this lasts.

People like that usually either respond positively or will at least leave you alone.

Yep. Sometimes I prefer they just leave me alone....though not sure in this case.

She should just let it go.

And certainly not hold it back. :rotfl2:

She is getting older, so it was bound to happen at some point.

Happy Friday before a long weekend gents.
Not much to report from me. I did a couple odd jobs around the house yesterday (Painted outside window trim, mowed the lawn). Not much on the agenda today. I’ll try to get my fat alien swirling saucer off the couch and get out for a walk.

Oldest DD is gone off with her boyfriend for the weekend, rented an Airbnb for a few nights. I don’t particularly like the idea of it, but they are 20 and it’s beyond the point where I have much say in it. It’s what I would do when I was 20.

Did you manage to escape with spending under $100? Of course you didn't! Silly me.
Under $100? I couldn’t even get out of the place for under $300! But I have such a dislike of the place I tend to go only once a month and stock up.

Afternoon chaps. Dog tired after a looooong week. Everyone in Bricksburg is getting a bit frenetic.

As much as I hate to say it my friend, this. I dread when the Curly haired ninja gets above 16/17, as I knew what I was getting up to way back when.
It's 5 o'clock somewhere
Athens, Moscow, Addis Ababa, Tel Aviv....

Morning all. Youngest dd had her wisdom teeth out today, which means I have now paid for 3 sets of teeth to be removed. Ugh. She isn't as loopy as my oldest, but one had already pushed in so they weren't as difficult to get. She's had ice cream and pain meds, so now the recovery begins. I get to stay home and pretend to be a nurse.

And, if September can't be any more busy for me, let's add a cat. Against my wishes, we are cat owners again. Double ugh.

She's 38. I'm thinking she's gotta be slowing a bit?

Yeah, it's just life. She's chasing 24 grand slam titles, which would be the record in the women's game. With the shortened COVID season, this is probably her best & last chance. What a remarkable career.

Use it to your advantage.

Just remember you will be complaining when they give you too much work. I'm hoping I get the easiest job possible now.

I don't have a problem with the boyfriend or weekend stay. Mine too is over 18, and I've taught her what I can. My issue with that, or anything else, is money. I gave her a free car, and she gets free rent and free food. In my way of thinking, you don't need a vacation from mooching.

If my daughter paid rent money, I'd just save it and give it back to her when she left. DW doesn't want to do that. It drives me freaking crazy. The only thing we can agree on is that if she isn't full time at work or school and isn't going to Church, then she can't stay here. It's a start. Rant over.

And yes ...

Morning, folks.
Happy Friday to those of you whom that means something.

I'm trying to be proactive by asking for work and even doing a lot of Googling of real estate transactions so I can learn and understand what's going on, and what not so I can understand what's going on, or try to.
Smart move. Learn. Make yourself indispensable/go to guy.
Ok, that was longer than I intended, but that felt good, thanks for listening.
That's why we're here. :)
Yep. Sometimes I prefer they just leave me alone....though not sure in this case.
You'll find out!
I did a couple odd jobs around the house yesterday (Painted outside window trim, mowed the lawn).
need to mow the lawn today. Think I'll go for a run then do it. Or vice versa.

Yep. She's an adult now. Gotta let go.
I know my DW had some trouble with that. Heck, even my girls had trouble. "Dad? Is it okay if I come home at 11:30 tonight instead of 11:00?"
Me: "Why are you asking me? You're over 18."
Under $100? I couldn’t even get out of the place for under $300! But I have such a dislike of the place I tend to go only once a month and stock up.
I try not to go there too often, too. Then again, I usually only go for non-perishables. TP, paper towels, laundry or dishwasher soap. I buy very little actual food there.
Did they get something like this?
That's cool! Be almost worth the (aprox) $1,000/night fee.
Youngest dd had her wisdom teeth out today, which means I have now paid for 3 sets of teeth to be removed. Ugh.
Joys of parenthood.
And, if September can't be any more busy for me, let's add a cat. Against my wishes, we are cat owners again. Double ugh.
:lmao:
Welcome to the family, kitty.
You're not fooling anyone. In a month or so you'll be sitting with the cat on your lap, refusing to move.
She's chasing 24 grand slam titles, which would be the record in the women's game.
I had never heard of Margaret Court before. That's crazy. I mean... sure, I was a little young when she was making her mark, but you'd think they'd refer to her more often. Maybe they do. I don't watch a lot of tennis.

Too busy so nicking one from the vaults.....

Right. That's it. I'm calling it. Work week over. Everyone out. Last one standing in the Ale and Compass after a few Royal Manhattans gets to take Snow White home. But let me tell ya, if she offers you a "7 Up", she ain't talking 'bout no soft drink.

Have a great weekend chaps.

So close!

A while back, when I was just starting my running (and suffering greatly, thankyouverymuch), I wondered what my pace was, compared to others. Dan volunteered that he would run a 5K at an average of six minutes/Km. I hadn't even run a 5K at the time and was lucky to do a 6'30' km. When I finally was able to string 5K together, my time was 7'14"/km (36:13 total). I ran another one a couple weeks later and managed to get it under seven minutes. (6'54", total: 34:31). I was pretty stoked. Got it under 7 minutes. A month later, I managed another one and cut my time to 6'33" (total: 32:46). I pushed myself and cut it to 6'22". I figured that was about as good as it was going to get. But on Wednesday, after a slow-ish first K, I managed a 6'12". Today, I went out and after running a 6'22" first K, I thought I had a shot. Maybe. I figure Dan's probably around 10-20 years younger than I am, so maybe it's not do-able.

Dang. Really thought I had it. Despite running a 5'39" for the last kilometer, I only managed a 6'01" pace. 30:07 total. I'll catch you yet, Dan! (Do not, under any circumstance, tell me what your best 5K is!)

When I was about 15, I tried (and succeeded) to sneak a buddy and me into a XXX theatre. The movie? Seven Into Snowy.
Have to admit I was disappointed. It was (I suspect) heavily censored and had no Snow White, dwarves or even seven people.
