DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
A lot of news on the boards the last few days. Glad everyone is safe and hopefully everyone can get out or hunker safely with Dorian on the way!

Around 2001 I was in Hampton, NH, visiting close friends and we were at a bar for an open mic night. Darius Rucker was traveling through and his tour bus stopped at the bar so they could eat. He came in, saw the open mic, and proceeded to play a free 45 minute acoustic show. Amazing voice and just an incredible thing for him to do.
Holy crap! Talk about good timing!

but...
Rush just isn’t my cup of tea.
… I'm afraid we just can't be friends now.

Morning guys. I dragged myself back to work yesterday after my two week staycation. Luckily I only have two work days before getting a long weekend. Yes, I planned it that way.

We are just on the edge of this tropical storm that is swing by but I think it is headed right at Jeff. You could be getting pretty wet on the Rock Jeff.
Looks like it’s staying on the west coast of the island. Maybe a few showers today here but a sunny weekend ahead.

We head out for the long weekend tonight so if I ain't around everyone have a great weekend and those south of the border here enjoy the 3 day break.
It’s a long weekend in the north too. It’s one of the few holidays we share. Except we add an extra u to labour day, of course.

Most people don't like the French. Wait, what were you talking about? :lmao:

Squirrel!

Make sure you have enough ammunition, ninja sword, and a crossbow. No, that's zombie apocalypse preparations. Sounds like you are ready for the hurricane. Good luck.

I think you're supposed to nuke a hurricane. I read that somewhere.

Wow, that's awesome!

As for BNL, I’d love to see them play. I’d put them as third best Canadian band. I think Bryan Adams and Blue Rodeo take the first two spots. Rush just isn’t my cup of tea.

Have a great time at the show!

That would have been a great bonus but we you joining in at the open mic? ;)

Given your list of bands you have just POed pkondz and every Tragically Hip fan in Canada.

Good to hear. We are off to Quebec City for the long weekend and luckily it is suppose to be a nice weekend there as well.

Happy Friday. Need to cut the grass and my hair, probably with different tools. You'll have a great weekend.

Not sure I'd want to shoot an arrow at the hurricane...could be death by stupidity.

Floridians were shooting their guns into the last hurricane. Is that only the natives? Or, can everyone be that stupid.

That would have been a great performance.

Is that what you engineers come up with? I did read something where someone designed a floating water turner for ocean to keep cooler water on top. It sounded like a good idea, except for any boats or marine life traveling thru.

Hey, that’s the combination on my luggage!

Spaceballs? You know what that makes you, right? :lmao:

Not just Canadians. Bryan Adams and Rush are two of my favorite Canadian singers/bands. I'll confess, I've not heard of Blue Rodeo (sorry if y'all like them too).

Well, I consider myself a native...does that count?
What could possibly go wrong?
It's not as if the bullet being caught by the wind and going 120+ mph could possibly be dangerous, right?

Pretty sure it's not isolated to FL, though...stupid is everywhere.
Life is like a box of chocolates.
Momma always said I was special.

With regards to the hurricane....it is possible we'll lose power. Obviously without power, no Internet or computer. I have a generator, but that will be for the freezer and fridge to keep food from spoiling. Wife will probably be very unhappy it won't include the AC, but we can survive...the food won't. Maybe it will be enough to handle the portable AC unit so at least we can do one room maybe and she can hibernate there.

Anyhoo, the point of this post, before the squirrel, several of you have my cell number. If we lose power and you don't see me on here, you can try me on the cell (or I can ping you and let you know we're okay). On the other hand, if the cell towers get knocked out, well, can anyone decipher smoke signals? ;)

Evening chaps from a slightly drunk Orlando. Ended up at Galaxys Edge tonight, waited 10 mins to get into the Cantina about 920pm and they finally kicked us out about 1045, so way over our 45 min allocation. Got some great photos of an empty Battu on the way out, as the park closed at 10.Didn’t get to do Smugglers run but it was worth it.

We met Lady Ks brother and his family in there and we got a booth, so about 380 bucks later we’ve pretty much done the menu for drink.

Food and wine was good, but I think I preferred flower and garden. There are plenty of carts on F&G, I think I was expecting a bit more from F&W.

If you ever have the opportunity to meet up with Dan, I highly recommend it. Great guy!
I always said you were a great judge of character. Great meeting you too mate. A real pleasure.
Hey! I know that guy!
Don't inflate 007's ego. He's already full of enough hot air to start a hurricane. Wait a minute..... :lmao:
No inflation ego here mate. I already knew I was fabulous ;)

Off to Anna Maria tomorrow after an 8 o’clock Gt Hits MK tour of Splash, the Mansion and the ride that shall not be named. Hopefully being on the west coast we will miss most of the Dorian fallout, look after ya self there Doc.

Have a great Labour day weekend chaps.

Hope it goes ok for you Doc. I’ll be thinking about you. Keep us posted when and if you can.

See above. Good that you’ll be on the west coast.

And this Saturday is going by way too fast. Beautiful weather here, and am enjoying it while it lasts. May your Labor Day weekend be U free.

I was counting you smart enough to NOT shoot into the hurricane. Looks like.it is changing directions. Hope it misses you.

I'm fluent in carrier pigeon.

I liked F&G as well. You, your chaps, and your fabulous ego sound like you're having a great time..

Which hand or foot where you counting on at that time?

We may not have it pass over us now, which is a blessing, but we'll still get a bunch of rain and wind. Spend most of today putting up hurricane shutters and doing sandbags. Not all fun and games here in Orlando, but given the amount of time I get to spend at da world, fair trade off, I think.

Ever seen a carrier pigeon fly in 120+ head wind? Not a pretty sight.

I can only count to 21. Be careful what you ask about. :scared1:

Absolutely. We have tornados, but our roof was ripped off by hurricane Ike. Might as well be in Florida if we are going to have hurricane damage. I'd rather have that Florida view/ weather/ Disney trade off than being here.

I think it's when they smack into something at 120 mph that it becomes a worse sight.

Is it an African or European Carrier pigeon?
And more importantly, is it unladen?

Ni!

Still a bit nervous about our first hurricane....

They're saying it's the most intense storm to ever hit the Bahama's and one of the top 6 strongest ever.
If they're right and it turns north, we won't be hit directly, but as slow as it's moving, I'm a bit concerned about flooding. We're about 30 miles due West of Cocoa beach, so it's likely we'll get some strong winds also. Fortunately, we're well prepared for everything except flooding...since we're still unpacking a lot, still have a lot of boxes and stuff that could/would be damaged in flooding. My brother is about 45 miles further inland (basically smack dab middle of the state) and we have that as a possible bug out location, but then if we lose power and I can't get back here to fire up the generator, we can lose a lot of food. You may think I'm funny, but then again, with this crowd, you might think I'm justified....mostly worred about the 20-25 pounds of bacon in the freezer. Without a special trip back to GA, that can't be replaced. The other stuff can be replaced.

I would say keep us in your prayers, but I'd say there are many others (such as in the Bahamas) that could use your prayers more.

Afternoon boys from a very sunny Anna Maria. Beach time this morning. Some great views out there this morning. It was a bit like the view from the Poly, my eyes kept getting drawn to the turrets.

Still sending best wishes doc, but frankly I’m amazed you are in here and not frying up some of that bacon. It’s 25 pounds. See it as a challenge.

Have a fabulous day chaps. I’m going back to the beach in some mirror sunglasses.....

Well, it is your first time .....

Never been thru a hurricane, but tornados stop by all the time. Take care.

Which do you think I should get? Came across these in Old Quebec this weekend and I figure I should be able to get a good deal given they are used and all.
