DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Afternoon boys from a Sunny(ish) London. It was the funeral of my best mate's Dad today, so that was tough, I've known him since I was 16.
It was nice to see some of my old school mates though, so we are all now resolved to book up a weekend away somewhere, before one of these things is for one of us.

try being a Bears fan - last night, seriously?!
Yyyyyyyyep. I stayed up to watch last night. That's what a franchise QB can do to ya. As a fan of the Bears, I have never known a QB that could do that for us. McMahon was flattered by the OL and Payton, and the devastation that was the defence.
I guess it got interesting after that
That's one way of putting it
We'll keep watching the track and plan for the possibilities.
All the best mate, stay safe over there.
Well, look at it this way. They will do great relegated to the next league.
Yep, bounced back up both times. Which is one of the interesting differences of our leagues and yours, in that the NFL, NBA, MLB all have no jeopardy.
I'm down about four LBs though,
Chicago lost 2 LBs last night. Well they certainly went missing for the last quarter
It seems like such a good idea at the time to have another Dole whip, until you get home and your pants are tight going back to work.
This. I put on about 12 pounds with my leg out of action, I have been cleared for swimming and light bike work.

Have a great day chaps.

Sorry to hear that Dan. It can't be easy, but hopefully you will get some time with your mates to think on old times.

It sounds like a good time. I remember you posting about it last year.

It is a blast! This is the 28th year and they have brought in some amazing performers over the years. We've been lucky enough to see Big Sugar a few times, the Trewes, David Wilcox, Parliament Funkadelic, and Colin James to name a few.

They have 20 official stages in the downtown with a mix of paid and free shows. This year we are going on Friday night and get to see MonkeyJunk (
), the Legendary Downchild Blues Band and The Ross Neilsen Band (https://rossneilsen.bandcamp.com/).

This year I'm also volunteering on Saturday night in the main tent. The main act in there on Saturday is Steve Earle and the Dukes.

Weird week for me. I'm at work normally today, then flying to Atlanta tomorrow for a two-day training thing, flying back Friday.

Speaking of which: I have a policy of not eating anywhere I can eat at home while traveling. I've only been to Atlanta once before, and that was downtown; I'm staying by the airport this trip. Any suggestions on good/interesting local places to eat?

At work. Time for annual online sexual harassment training.

Anyhoo...yesterday was 14 day mark for check in. 11 days until we leave.

Single digits make it even more difficult. Have a great trip.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Being a Bills fan may be tough, try being a Bears fan - last night, seriously?! Just gotta get through the work week and then our short trip to DaWorld. This is the last of our "travels" during the year of our 25th anniversary (real date is in Dec). Got a couple of Dad meets with John P and Dave. Thoughts and prayers for Rob and anyone else in the path of the hurricane - be safe Rob and keep us posted as best you can. Have a good Monday gents, if there is such a thing.
.

Not sure what happened. Saw the Bears up and Rogers injured, and thought it was a forgone conclusion.

'Morning all...
It's a grumpy kind'a Monday here, but that's mostly because my innerds are complaining about the recent caloric reductions I've imposed on them. I'm down about four LBs though, so they'll have to get over it 'cause I ain't given up just yet.

Oh, we're watching that monster, alright.
From my particular perspective, I was more concerned Friday, but the thing shifted a bit north so we should be on the southwest side if it continues on the current track. That lightens our concerns for wind damage, but if it stalls once ashore (as predicted) we'll likely be dealing with flooding along the rivers and compromised dams. Right now, the folks with the most worries are on the Outer Banks or on either the Neuse or Cape Fear River flood plains. We'll keep watching the track and plan for the possibilities.

Stay safe.

Hey Rob, not sure if you're doing keto like me...if you are and you need someone to help you along the way (bounce things off of, morale support, etc.), I'm here.

If you need a bug out spot, we're only a few hours away and we have two extra rooms. If you're anything like @pkondz, we also have some amazing ice cream about 10 min from the house. ;)

And what ice cream place is it? Is it a local or chain?

Good luck with it. I am trying to lose the few pounds I gained on our WDW trip. No success as yet. It seems like such a good idea at the time to have another Dole whip, until you get home and your pants are tight going back to work.

Time to buy some bigger pants. Works for me.

Little doubt West Ham couldn't defeat one of our MLS teams. I do wish usa soccer would get on board. But, when you limit the league to 30 owners with their own stadiums, then yiu consolidate the $.

Interesting policy. So, do you even avoid places like Chik Fil A? If we can find them driving to WDW, then I'm stopping there.

Monday...

Ya know, that's possibly one of the biggest perks about being a shift worker. Monday is just another day. Sometimes it's the start of my week, sometimes it's the middle or last day. Sometimes it's a day off.

I think our problem is that we keep watching expecting the NFL to be a sport, and in reality it's just an entertainment show.

It's that... but what it really is, is a business. It's there to make money.

Welcome to another Monday. Hoping for only 200 more if these, figuratively.

Figuratively?

I'm down about four LBs though, so they'll have to get over it 'cause I ain't given up just yet.

Good for you! Keep at it. :)

I'll check with a guy at work. He lives down in that area. I worked as a contractor for Delta for a few months back in '97 or '98, so I'll try to remember (look on the map) the place all the guys raved about. Depending on which days, I might be able to come pick you up and take you to downtown (the vortex is quite the experience).

Local place that has a unique way of making the ice cream (even more unique than cold stone creamery --- you can't get much more freshly made while you wait than this). I've already told pkondz about it when he's coming through. It's called the frozen cow. I would post a link here, but they tend to get taken away by the DIS or mods. Do a search for frozen cow Kennesaw, GA

Interesting policy. So, do you even avoid places like Chik Fil A? If we can find them driving to WDW, then I'm stopping there.

Yep. I'll make exceptions around breakfast (where 'fast and easy' trumps 'new and different') or for meal stops during long drives (where the selection is generally a few nigh-ubiquitous chains) but when I can, I try to avoid any chain we have at home.

I have a rental car, so I can go into downtown if I feel the need. I'm hoping not to, though.

Well, if you're near the airport, you could also take Marta to downtown. I personally don't like Marta simply because of some of the corruption that I've heard about (from people who know first hand). I'd rather walk or take a taxi (just out of principle) even though it might be more expensive. If it weren't for horrible Atlanta traffic, I'd suggest coming up to the North side and I'd take you someplace fantastic (and even great ice cream after).

Bear with me...I'll see what I can find near the airport. Some of that area is not necessarily the best or safest, but I'm sure I can find some options for you.

Okay...although it would still be cool to have you come up to my neck of the woods so we could meet, I found 3 places that are highly recommended...in order of how highly recommeneded
Malone's bar & grill (this is the one we went to when I worked down there and the guy at work says exceptional food & service)
Brake Pad
Kafenio's (Greek food if you like or are in the mood)

I've also heard the Irish bread pub and Spondivits are good, BUT they automatically charge you a gratuity (which at least for me is a no go).

:rotfl2: I have been tempted. Maybe that's what I'll get for Christmas!
I've got some bigger ones I no longer need. Maybe we can come to an amicable agreement.
The cool thing for me...I've got so much extra room now, if I gain a few in Disney, I could care less.

Speaking of which...4 more lbs to go. At 96 lost thus far.

Sweet - thanks! All of those look really good.

I'm not sure what my schedule looks like at all right now, to be honest - they've given me a very little bit of info about what's going on with this training. I'm assuming there's at least one group dinner planned.

This afternoon turned a bit National Lampoons Xmas, as the cat trotted up the garden path and into the back room with a half dead squirrel in its mouth. Lady K went ballistic.

Thanks chaps, it was good. His mum is probably one of about 6 people in the world who calls me Danny. The meet up could be a strange one, our group was very female dominated, there are about 3 guys and 8 girls, and the girls were suggesting no partners for the weekend. Hmmmm.

Its always nice to brush up on the skills.
Hopefully they don't come across any of our "deflowering a princess" posts
What are these posts you speak of?
So, do you even avoid places like Chik Fil A
I had one of those at MCO when we were flying home. It was not bad at all.
Not sure what happened. Saw the Bears up and Rogers injured, and thought it was a forgone conclusion.
Apparently, Aaron Rogers can beat us on one leg. The secondary just went completely missing in the second half, and Mitchell went from throwing through the eye of a needle in the first half to not be able to hit a cows **** with a banjo.

 Entertainment at its finest!

well someone's updated the naughty word filter to include english spellings.......

Or... not. All I see is ****
