DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Carp. Hurt my knee last night playing tennis and can't put any weight on it. Went to the doctor for some pain meds and MRI. Regular x-ray is fine, so waiting for insurance to improve. Anyone done Disney on crutches? :furious:

Gentlemen, there is a period of time in every man's life in which he goes through a "dry spell". Now this dry spell could be related to not having your drink of choice for some time, to not getting a hit or scoring a goal in a while, or even something along the lines of not seeing Jasmine's magic carpet for a while.
My friends, my dry spell has been four years. In four long years I have not had a Dole Whip or the superior (yes, I said it) citrus swirl, I have not had a Mickey bar, Mickey waffle, Mickey crispy treat, Mickey...well you get the picture. I had been used to seeing the World with my family every year or so. But then things happened. Job changes, financial changes, some medical stuff, all keeping us as the "have not family" wondering when that day might come again.
Well, as a man once said "one day the sun will shine and have not will be no more". Gentlemen, for me that day will be the 17th of August, 2018. Yes, the vacation days have been approved by the boss, the hotel has been booked, the flights have been purchased, and it's all over but the crying (tears of joy...until the visa statement comes, then it's different tears).

I'm happy to report that my family will be staying at All Star Music from August 17-27, 2018.
I was never sure if this trip would ever happen, and it will be a little different than my other trips. I've never been to either of the All Stars. I have nothing against them, and they seem nice enough. But we settled into being a "moderate" family. The deluxe resorts look beautiful and I'm sure they are. But without being DVC, they are a bit hard on my wallet. The moderates gave us two sinks, queen beds, which for a family of four (three ladies), it was nice. Looking at another trip, I knew I had to take a different financial approach. I'm not where I was four years ago. This trip there will be no Universal, no shopping spree, fewer days overall. When the free dining came out, I started thinking about it. I nearly missed it all, the rooms are so limited for free dining. By the time I got the vacation days approved and looked at prices, the only thing left in free dining was preferred rooms at ASMu. But I'm sure it will be great.

Any of you stayed at All Star Music before? Any suggestion or recommendation/tips?
Anyone going to the World those dates? I remember some of you are going, just can't remember when (I didn't pay as much attention when I though I wouldn't be there!)

Congrats!

We've stayed at All Star Movies on our first trip and and All Star Sports on our last trip. As far as values go we prefer Pop Century but sometimes you go where the deal takes you. Overall they are great resorts as long as you aren't there where cheer groups are there, they tend to take over the resort and seeing pictures of 8 and 9 year old girls completely made up in the room windows is a little unnerving. Rooms are pretty standard and for the most part you shouldn't have to share a bus. The one thing I didn't like was the location, just seemed far from everything except AK.

Yes, go Jets! I have a hard time believing I'm writing that, but the alternatives are a bit mind boggling. Really Dan, can you imagine a Tampa-Las Vegas final? In what universe do we live? You'll have to try finding the puck this time and see if the Jets can pull it off tonight.

Seeing the Jets move on would be nice but seeing Fleury in the final with Vegas would make me happy after the Penguins tossed him aside last year.

Night CJ.

Not yet.

You got up just to log on and tell us this?

No, was up for a while. There are only so many vacuum cleaner and self help commercials you can watch. Decided to log on to hear the group's words of wisdom. Needless to say, I was not disappointed.

When the sun came up, I went out to pull weeds in the back yard. Yea, I know, an exciting life I lead.

Enjoy retirement?

Yes, but I wish I was near Disney so I can do something part-time. May start looking in few months for something to do.

Damn, been there. Hopefully it is just a strain and you are back at it soon. I would get a chair or a scooter instead of crutches.

Just get a scooter and run over people in your way...

See what I mean.

Oh the humanity.

Yep, a few times. More that a serviceable room and the pool is fun. I was there with either 2 or 3 people but you can make it work.

Had annual check-up with the doc this morning. Basically all good, not anticipating anything bad from the lab tests so other than getting back to going on my walks and dropping a few pounds basically good. I need the Jets to take out Nashville tonight for sure. Dan, can't blame you on the red line / blue line thing being in the UK but we will have to work on that. Happy Friday Eve gents!

4 years, holy carp! Great to see you were able to get back there. DVC now but before that stayed in All Stars including a couple of years about 5 yrs ago with DD's soccer team for tournaments at ESPN. Rooms are smaller than other single rooms at moderates but if you are there to sleep and shower, grab breakfast before heading to the parks or hang at the pool midday to relax they are solid. We do 4 in a cruise cabin with no problem so you should be just fine. One thing is that if some in the family are ok with it, take shower at night so that you don't have all 4 trying to clean up in the morning

Great movie, though.
You speak the truth, brother.
Really Dan, can you imagine a Tampa-Las Vegas final?
I know Las Vegas are new and the guys on PTI are miffed that they got so much help when they set up. The rest of it was hubris. Still completely clueless about what's going on.

Sorry buddy, that blows. Get the girls to push you round EPCOT in the double stroller. No problemo.

That's awesome mate, congratulations. I've eaten at Pop, as we used to walk from Art of Animation over there. It was pretty good.
Now if only there was a Good Looking, Charming, Witty, British Disdad over there from the 16th to the 30th. You could have had a meet up over some rum or dinner. So I guess you'll have to put up with me. :scared1:

Apparently it has something to do with icing. What the hell Cupcakes have got to do with any of this beats the shizzle out of me.

Pain pill did ok. Now, I'm trying tequila to see if it has the same effects. Maybe it's just the limes. Anyone try those CBD drops? A friend swears by them, but he hasn't a knee issue like this.

Just get a scooter and run over people in your way...

Yes, that is what DW said.

Sorry to hear you like Citrus Swirls over Dole Whips. Still, as for ASMusic, we stayed they on our honeymoon and a few years ago. The rooms are smaller and it's only bus transportation. But, it's not as bad as it used to be, as there were individual, dedicated buses for each of the AS resorts, unlike 18 years ago. Don't forget about the pool bar. It was quite nice, although, outside the pool. They also do the pool games for the kids. The food court there was very good.

Dang, sorry to hear that. Well, look at the silver lining, it might be fun to zoom around in an ECV?

Thanks fellas. It was quite humbling today when DW went inside, pushed out a wheelchair, and I rolled myself in the dr office. Even though I'm overweight, I've never been in that position to need someone to do something for me. She said to do scooter, because she doesn't want to push me around in the WC. I still have the meniscus partial tear in the other knee, but it never hurt this bad. I hope it's not as bad as i think it is.

Sorry Jeff, you'll be there about a month before me.
A lot to digest with this, but I'm glad your dry spell is coming to an end!!! :dogdance::dogdance::dogdance::dogdance: (one for each of you)

Just wish I would be there the same time so I could buy you dinner at Tiffins (well I suppose I could settle for something else), a dole whip and a citrus swirl. If you're driving and you come through Atlanta, give me a shout. It's no Tiffins, they don't have dole whips or citrus swirls, but there's a good place not too far from the highway.

Sweet! Nice!

YES!!!!

I've stayed at ASMu a few times... Do not under any circumstances let them put you in Country Fair. That's farrrrrrrrr away. It may not look to bad on a map (see below) but.... trust me, after a long day of touring, you are going to come to hate that long walk. Actually, if it's not too much more $$$ (and there's availability) I'd strongly recommend a preferred room in Calypso.

Morning boys from a early London. It's nice to see that since I started following the Jets, they have a 100% record and are in the finals. That Statsny is a real humdinger of a player, isn't he?
Lets go Jets!
I hope it's not as bad as i think it is.
Fingers crossed mate

Morning, boys.
Should be an okay day as I learn all about PTSD. Guest lecturer is supposed to be good.

First time in history that they’ve advanced to the third round. I’m kinda in shock and not quite believing it’s real b

I suspected you might be down there at that time. We'll have to see what we can do about a meet up. I haven't looked at specific plans yet, but need to get on it soon.

Don't forget about the pool bar.
The most important resort amenity.

We're flying (driving would take at least 3 days for me :scared1:)
But if I'm ever in Atlanta, I'll let you know!

Luckily, I did go for the preferred room in Calypso. Even with free dining, I had the option for standard or preferred and even though I'm trying to be budget conscious on this trip, I thought it would be money well spent to upgrade.

Morning Gents.

Nice to see the Jets win last night, definitely looking for either them or Vegas to win it all.

Nice day here and the river is now officially just below flood stage here. I think it hasn't dropped further down river yet though. NASA has a couple of interesting pictures comparing the river last week to what would be normal at this time of the year. https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=92125

Have a good one all.

Top O the Mornin Dads! That's all I got, may the rest of the day move quick until about 5:00, then slow down to enjoy the weekend with family and friends.

Fans in Winnipeg deserve this for sure, way more than the Nashville fans here do :lmao:

I'll just leave this here. Must be all that Penguin bothering they do up there.

Apparently it doesn't apply to people from Winnipeg or Newfoundland.

Right. That's it. Everyone out. I'm calling it. Work week over. In honour of Jeff's booking, last one in Singing Spirits has to take Emma Watson as Belle home. And, according to Darcy, she's an absolute beast. ;)

Have a good weekend fellas.

Hey Guys...it was a busy week so I was awol...I'll get caught up eventually.

Going to SC to see DS this weekend, it'll be nice to get away for a short break, might even hit the beach tomorrow (then relax on it some as well, kinda need to make up for the violence of the blow).

Great news for us, DW has a new job for the fall. Just about six weeks of putting up with her current toxic work environment to go. Much less stress to come, so it's a huge blessing for us.

And...the countdown is now at 26 days until we are at POFQ!!
