DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
:drive:something different >I have a Disney question. I have my favorite but. I you were going to Disney say in april. Knowing the crowds will be crazy what resort would you prefer to stay in? Figure there will be more resort time due to crowds. I am stuck between BLT,Poly and Boardwalk. help me decide

Lots of news coming out of the D23 Parks presentation. Ratatouille in France, Great Movie Ride to be replaced with a Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, Ellen out replaced by a new Guardians ride. Those two will be closing in August (damn, won't get to see them one last time.) Gondola confirmed, new film in China, new Mission Space on the green side, new table service opening at Mission Space, Tron coaster near Space Mountain (looks like Speedway stays.) New Star Wars themed resort “Multi-day Adventure" where you become part of the adventure. Minnie van service (something like LYFT). A new theater off Main Street in the MK. This is all in addition to Star Wars and Toy Story lands.

Looks like they said to Universal, "You want to play with the big boy, OK lets play."

I say BW with Poly a close second due to pool at Poly being better than BLT.

Hey Drive-by. I'm staying at Poly this week, and will get back to you. Right now, BWV and BLT are my top two favorites. BWV for location to two resorts and now Star Wars Fireworks, community hall, pool slide, tennis courts, Boardwalk, and great restaurants in walking distance. Add TOTWL to BLT along with the other stuff, and monorail dining options. You get more pool options at BLT. BWV is points cheaper though.

Of course we want you to visit. The North wing of the Castle is beautiful in the summer. Carstairs will look after you. He's been in the family for years.
.

North wing of the castle? I'm afraid you've mistaken me for someone who has money. I was planning to mooch off you and eat all your food. I would leave you a deposit in your toilet. Not sure of its cash value. :lmao:

Tough loss on game two, 82-79. DS played much like yesterday and had similar minutes. The loss will drop them out of a chance to defend their title as only the top team in each pool advances and they will lose out on any tie-breakers I think. Not sure he thinks that is a bad thing as he's getting a bit sore. I'm guessing he'll ask me for the day off on Monday:rotfl2:.

Yeah, that is a tough loss. We are out for tennis as well. Won again last night, and lost this AM. Four teams advanced to semi finals, and there were three flights of teams, so one winner from each flight and one wildcard. So, we had to be one of the top 4 of 11 teams, and we finished 5th. It always sucks to lose, but even moreso when you are that close.

I suppose which park is important to you and if you favor Dole Whips with rum over all.
:drive:parks are not important. I always know where to find my dolewhips. But need to figure out which resort would be best for my youngest (14) son. Since my other willbe with band the whole time my youngest will be alone . It will be first time my kids haven't had siblings with them.

Hi All, Tim Gearin here. Proud member of the Facebook group who just doesn't feel whole without a proper Disdad number! My lack of official status is already costing me a round when Carl comes to visit in a few weeks, but I was hoping to snag an official number from the powers that be to maybe save me from future Disdad shame. Thanks!
Welcome

...asleep. You're old. :lmao:
:rotfl::thumbsup2

I thought it was "one in, one out" on Pats fans?
Or we could just go with the "one out, another one out" method.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Here we go again, another Monday and 5 days til another weekend which we definitely prefer. Had a good laid back weekend. Some yard work and grilling. Sat outside yesterday afternoon and watched the Cubs with some nice bourbon and cigar and then cooked Sun day dinner on the grill.

Randall, speaking of the Cubs, if you are an Orioles fan my apologies for the thumping the Cubs put on them this weekend - 27 runs in 3 games. Wish we were playing the O's some more this season :)

Have a good week fellas and may it go quick - unless you are on vacation or at DaWorld.

Boy can't go wrong with either when thinking about food options for a 14 yo while on his own as both have good options. If he is doing park time on his own, Poly may be better with Monorail for both MK & Epcot rather than him walking or bus from BWV. Not sure if you stayed at Poly before, but if not short walk to EPCOT monorail at ticket and transportation center.

Today is a great day! Celebrating 22 years of wedded bliss and where better to celebrate it....in a gym.
You’re doing it wrong…
Congrats on the anniversary and may you get to see many more.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Proud Dad moment as DD passed her NCLEX and has New letters after her name BSN, RN.
That’s a ton of work. Congrats to the kid.

:wave:Howdy…
Thanks for deciding to visit the red-headed stepchildren.
If you think of, drop by every once in a while.

Hello Tim Gearin, would you please wait a moment while I check to see if our quota of Red Sox and Patriots fans have been filled yet...

The yard was neglected for a while so lots of vines to pull and a dead bush to remove. Spent Friday afternoon and this morning on it and have passed the halfway point. About to die of heat stroke so came in for the afternoon. This old body can't take this stuff any more.
Summer yard work takes down near as many folk as recreational pharmaceuticals…
We need to start a war on yard work (and I suspect it would be just as successful as those other “wars”)

I see some new guys showed up lol. With numbers in the 800's you guys will be buying for ever. Andrew at least you beat Tim in here.
Harassing the pelages again, are we?

Good returns from morning match. We won 38-14. They weren't a very good team though.
Congrats on the outcome (and an “at’a boy” on the honesty).
But all physical activity is good and a dang site better then I’m accomplishing.

Yoga pants?
If this was referencing you wearing them…
Then that’s a very good answer.

If it’s about the seeing of these garments as worn by those that truly ought to be wearing them…
then I’m truly sorry for you.

Good that he’s back in the game and improving.
May he continue to heal and avoid future injuries.

I'm guessing he'll ask me for the day off on Monday:rotfl2:.
Starting to acquire and more adult work ethic, is he?

Can’t afford any of ‘em so my opinion counts for nothing here.
But I see that you’ve gotten good feedback from some of the others.

There have been a near deluge of announcements in the past few days. I’m cool with most of it and I’ll get over the changes to the rest of it pretty quickly.

Most all of this could be good for the parks and guests (though some of these things may be beyond the monetary grasp of a fairly large sector of the visiting population). We’ll see which ones actually get built and what their final forms really end up being.

Happy (?) Monday. Spent a nice Sunday afternoon driving out to a town called Cupids, which was the first English settlement in Canada (1610) and second in North America after Jamestown, Virginia (1607). Did the museum and archaeology dig tour. The difference between Cupids and Jamestown is that in the first year 2/3 of Jamestown settlers died, while in Cupids 4 of the 30 died, which they consider more successful. Not sure people dying was a success, but it makes you realize what conditions those early settlers had. OK, history lesson over.

Tennis tournament then start vacation. What a great way to end a week and begin another one.
Enjoy your trip!

Good Afternoon All. Andrew here! I am active on the facbook group, and Carl threated me if I did not stop by here to get a number, he would do bad things to me. So Hi!!

Hello Gents, nice to see you stopping by this side. Pull up a chair and stay for a while.

Celebrating 22 years of wedded bliss and where better to celebrate it....in a gym.
Hmmm...I think I've seen a couple "films" that started off that way. I'm sure you are just exercising though.

Congrats on the anniversary!

You'll be celebrating later ...

...with your wife

...in bed

...asleep. You're old.
Well, that kind of sounds like me, and I don't have 11 years put in yet.

NCLEX is the final post graduate exam / test to become a registered nurse. It's like the bar exam for nursing.
Well done. Congrats to her!

Too bad about the loss, but sounds like he gave it his best shot. But don't go easy on him now, boss!

I'm guessing this probably depends on you.
I think MK is the hardest park to get so I'd rank them BLT > BW > POLY if the ranking was strictly location and you are planning on doing MK days. (And I weight this criteria more heavily when it's crowded)
Not sure which size rooms your comparing but since Poly is included I'm guessing studio in which case I rank them POLY, BW (refurbished with the pull down bed), BLT
For value I'd probably rank them BW, POLY, BLT ( I really like the second shower/sink area)
For resort themeing I'd rank them POLY, BW BLT

Most importantly I rate them BLT, POLY, BW on the distance from the creepy clown scale.

I waved at you a few hours ago driving thru TN. Did you see me? :lmao:

If not for DVC, i couldn't afford any either. We had a great deal on a 100 point contract at Boardwalk. We love the area, and I'm trying to stay in others when i have the chance. As for prices, Disney prices on everything have gone up faster than my pay. We keep downsizing number of park days and dining options. With this new round of announcements and looming dramatic price uptake, we may eventually be able to stay at a great resort in a great location, and not afford any theme parks.

I'm guessing this probably depends on you.

Good points

I like that creepy clown, or at least, it doesn't bother me enough not St stay there. Ultimately, points cheap will always win with me.

I like the cut of your jib sir. :rotfl:
Vacation. That is all.
48 hrs behind you mate, finish tomorrow.

Evening boys from Sunny and humid London. Eventful week over here with some life changin' stuff going on. 36 hrs till Disney time. I can almost smell the jet fuel. And the bloke in front who took his shoes off.

Well we finally got our summer vacation plans hammered out. Alas no Disney this year, couldn't make the budget work.
Gonna use our Worldmark points to stay in New Braunfels for 4 days. We renewed our annual membership to Six Flags so I figure we will spend 3-4 days that week down there at Fiesta Texas. Also going to take the girls to the drive in, they have a great set up where you have room to back into the spots and set up chairs to watch the double feature.

PS. Anything below 37C and 80%+ humidity and you are not allowed to complain. Our low temp at night around here is 30C.

Enjoy the yard work, got mine done this a.m. Before the flooding rain got her today. NCLEX is the final post graduate exam / test to become a registered nurse. It's like the bar exam for nursing.

I should have know that. Congrats to her, nurses can have a nice living. More yard work today and for a few more days yet. Most of the weeds and vines are gone and I laid a couple of bags of pine bark. I think it will work.

Good returns from morning match. We won 38-14. They weren't a very good team though. Time to load up for the next one.

Congrats and good luck in the next one. Have fun at the Poly.

We've been with Carnival, Disney and Norwegian but NCL was the least favourite. Hopefully this one will be better. We when we know if we will have any time in Miami, we'll have to see if we can meet up for a beer or something.

Just let me know and we can try to get together. I love being on the water so any cruise is a good one. Well I guess the Titanic and the Lusitania are a few of the exceptions. What? Too soon?
