DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Just realized, first time in a long bit with now trip countdown in the signature line - WTH? Going through the pina colava and Jimmy Buffet references only took be back to the cruise ship. Saw a new guy joined (pic from photobucket and it worked?

Well, today was the day I have been dreading for months. DW and DD left for Orlando this morning...without me.

Refresher, DW and youngest DD are gone on a dance school trip, DD is dancing in a parade at Epcot Friday night (parade is just a marching band and dancers from schools in US and Canada, organized by Dance the World - there isn't a new Epcot parade you don't know about). This has been on the books since October. I originally couldn't go because my old job would have had me working overseas right now. Since taking my new job at home, it's just been too busy and hectic to arrange a week off to go. I really thought about it so many times, but in the end I just couldn't commit to it. Hopefully the workload will ease off eventually and I can plan a family trip to WDW again. I have been trying to convince myself that I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much anyway, between thinking of the work piling up at home and the distraction of dance rehearsals and costuming interfering with the Disney side of the trip. Still, my heart broke a little when I dropped them at the airport this morning.
Well DD and her group danced in Epcot last night. She did a great job. DW got on Facebook live for me. A bit blurry through the tears, but at least I got the idea. Drowned my sorrows with the old stand by, spiced rum and Pepsi.
Sorry you couldn't join 'em - allergy season in your neck of the woods 'eh.
Afternoon All,

beautiful day up here in the sunny north. Too bad I'm at work.

DS played in his first basketball game last night since his injury. He managed several short shifts and other than his fitness level he did all right. They have a practice tonight and if he can get through that I think we will be off to a tournament in Halifax this weekend. It was great to see him on the court again.
Skipping the tournament this weekend in order to make sure he can play next weekend which is the last tournament for this team. He hasn't had enough time in practice yet to get through an entire tournament. It does bite that he will only get one good weekend with the provincial team but another team has asked him to play in Montreal the last weekend in July so I think he will do that. The bonus there is the team is coached by his high school's new varsity coach.
Good to hear he is back at it. Easing him into playing sounds like the best route to take as he has been out for a bit. Hope all goes weel with his return.
Hey Everyone! It's been a while since I visited this side of the DisDads. Been on the FB site as it's easier with my phone. Hope all are well. I'm going to go back and read all 626 pages now.
Jim, great to hear from ya over here. recently started using the other site and it is easier to post pics, etc when traveling on mobile devices.

Happy Tuesday. Made it to both jobs. Looks like youngest's dd tennis tournament is a bigger deal than i thought. 9 teams in three flights with 5 potential matches (including finals) for a chance to play in regionals. I hope i can manage this group, and i know the competition will be fierce.

Booze does add to the experience.

There’s also a JB‘Ville in SC.
The food is decent if a might pricey, but you are paying for the name

.

Because there is no other vacation or dining experience that we go that increases prices based on their brand name?

Top O the Mornin Dads! Back to reality yesterday :crazy2: Was a great trip and we had a blast. A bit backed up here and will do my best to get caught up but until then prayers for those in need, congrats to those deserving, beer bacon and dole whips for everyone (they have a "knock off" dole whip on the ships now). Cheers gents!

Welcome back to reality. It looked like you had a great trip. Cigar and bourbon on a boat in the ocean is the way to do it.

 Point taken...

But then again, it kind'a depends on what you want to spend your cash on.
Expensive excellent dinning wins out over expensive decent-enough dining regardless of the marketing.
I've been there once; the food was decent but not as good as other places within walking distance for similar or less money. The atmosphere wasn't any better then any other chain so that didn't add enough to the experience to warrant a return trip.

I apply the same rule even to Disney dinning.
There's more than enough that is amazing to justify going back to a venue that didn't really shine. Case in point...
We tried out The Boat House this last trip. While there was nothing wrong with it per se, I've had as good and better seafood for less bucks at other places so that one probably won't be getting a return visit.

Now the lounge at The Boat House...
that's a different story...

DW and DD are back from Florida tonight. I'll be leaving the house at 3:00am to get them at the airport. Plenty of caffeine for the office, hopefully I'll make it through the day without falling asleep. I'm looking forward to seeing them but I guess this means I have to wear pants now and I should probably wash something...dishes...towels.

Sorry you couldn't join 'em - allergy season in your neck of the woods 'eh.
Yep, pollen, that was it.

Looked like you had a nice trip on the water. Always tough coming back to reality.

Sounds like a tough one. Best of luck to her.

Been busy so I was away for a bit. Think it was good timing considering the song posts.

Good luck, it seems like a big tournament.

If you want to get special dispensation to come down solo in January, you better get cracking on the cleanup.

Thanks for the good tennis wishes. I did a lineup for all the players based on what I scouted. I tried to balance the cut throat desire to win with letting everyone play. I think I managed it.

I agree. I did the Margartaville restaurant for the alcohol and music. But, I can play Jimmy Buffett's greatest hits cd and drink at home for a lot cheaper. I like to try new restaurants at WDW, but when I get one that is just ok, then we don't return. We do have some favorites though.

Well, at least you don't have to wash the pants. :lmao:

Way to miss out of the music lyrics. I'm sure someone won't ever post any more of them. :sad2:

Top O the Mornin Dads! I know almost lunchtime, still buried after being gone..............
I never knew you spoke Canadian.
I love hockey so I guess when in Rome .............

Hope you are not asleep at your desk. From the other page looks like they had a good time but were missing the DisDad of the family.

No kidding! What was up with the poor taste in tunes?

Last swim meet of the season. Probably not the best idea to attend regular swim practice this AM and 3 hour team tennis practice. Well, they are young and have enough energy. I sat on an empty row of bleachers and now, I'm surrounded by people trying to over impress each other - trading up in middle of conversations, bragging about events and trips, etc. Thankfully i have tennis tonight at 6 and am able to leave soon enough.

No kidding! What was up with the poor taste in tunes?
!

My point exactly :rolleyes1:

I know, right? Some horrible stuff going on until someone mentioned Buffett.
.

I mentioned Jimmy Buffett. Y'all better be on board the train to Margaritaville, or I'm opening up a can of whoop @$$.

Tell 'em you're on a budgie smugglin' tour next week, and watch them google it.
I proposed a new man law banning rick rolling, but maybe it should be stiffer.
A stiffer new man law? A new stiffer man law? A stiffer Rick Roll?

Huge storm rolled in and the sound and light show beats Fantasmic. Saw a lightning strike hit the transformer on the next bloc over. The blue and green sparks were kind of cool. Unfortunately they are without power now. Nice to be in the comfy confines of my family room.

As long as no one gets hurt and no property damage, a good t-storm can be cool. Stay safe though.

You might want to re-phrase that ..............?

:lmao::rotfl::lmao:

?

And if I only could have said that with a British accent ...

We had a transformer blow in an ice storm a few years back. It was loud and fun to watch until the power went out.
