DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
4 hours into the work week, and already I can tell this is not going to be one for the ages....

5 minutes into my work day and I've already cleared my emails and task list. I guess I'll finish my coffee, talk about football, and then go home.

I'm not familiar with the Amazon s'mores list and will check it out. I had just planned to buy dw a bag of marshmallows, graham crackers, and Hershey candy bars. I'll bring home marshmallows now and she will put a skewer in them and roast them on the gas range. I laugh and think I'm in the Ghostbusters movie, burning the stay puft marshmallow man.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Lets get through this week gents as fast as we can so we can get to the short holiday week next week(here in the States). Have a good one all.
Hmmm...Mickey wreaths. You just gave me an idea that I have no thought of before.
Will post a picture for you as a reference when I get a chance
What a finish for the Dolphins. Wow.
Amazing Steelers/Cowboys Game!
Both good games. The Bears however, seem to be on a mission not to trouble the scorer.
Finally some good football, excluding the bad news Bears, including last nights Pats / Seahawks game.

'Morning all...

Happy Belated Anniversary/Birthday DISDad Club. Nine years old yesterday!

Took me about a year to find the place but it has been around quit a while now, hasn't it?

For those not on FB and will be attending the convention, due to circumstances beyond my control, it is about 90% sure I will not be attending. The kid will be there to run but without me (she is trying to see if friends can join her). Sad because this will be the first time I have missed since DDC -1.
May things clear up a might in the near.
I hate it when life gets in the way of the rest of life.
Dang annoying.

You can go back and read all the old threads......or you can just go back a single page and pretty much get the idea. :lmao:
Disney, bacon and fart jokes...
That pretty much covers it.

Louisville won, Clemson, Michigan, and Washington lost - so much for the undefeatededs
This weekend certainly made a mess out of the nice clean assumptions about the contenders for the mythical divison-1 play offs.

Sorry to hear and hope things break your way CJ. Would like to attend but start of January just don't work for me with work and taking time off at Christmas through New Years. Someday I'll get there.
Got the same work schedule problems.
Maybe if I ever get to retire, it'll be possible.
But then again, I ain't so sure retirement is actually a option any more.

Heading to The Six tomorrow until Wednesday for some meetings
Enjoy your time in the GTA...
Wonder if it would be possible for you to meet up with Brent or Brian while you out that way.

That stinks. Hope things turn around

Truer words were never spoken.

Sorry to hear it. I haven't made one yet, and my streak will remain intact. :sad2:

Me too. One of these years...

How 'bout them Cowboys!!!

Something looks familiar - young QB, RB, playmaker WR, big offensive line

I really hate to admit it, but they look like the real deal. As an Eagles fans, it's grinding my gears that my team spent all of this time and effort identifying a QB of the future and trading up to get him, while Jerry Jones blundered into one in the 4th round.

Well, I'm less than happy. My football team went into the game with leads of 11-0 in the first, 25-12 in the second and 28-19 in the third.... only to lose their semi-final playoff game 32-31... the first one we've been in since 2011. Sucks.

Ah. A traditionalist.

Wow... 9 years?? Good to know you are still helping Batman!

Sorry to hear that, CJ. Hoping the circumstances swing your way so you can attend.

Howdy all. Took a week off from these here fine boards as I was visiting the Mouse. It was a anniversary celebration with the DW. Great to get away not sure I every want to do it again without DS. We had a blast, but I kept thinking of how much more fun it would have been with him. To make up for it, we're going in March. Almost bought DVC while we were there, but opted out because I'm pretty sure we can get a much better deal through resale, even without the direct benefits. The tour was not bad at all. Got a $100 gift card, 3 FP+ each and free ice cream. As I was told on here and FB page, very low pressure.

Hope everyone is well and has a great week. Now I'm back to trying to achieve reentry to the real world.

.

An 8 team format would have mostly addressed these issues. Sure, one could argue 8 vs 9 seed, but I think for the most part, the actual champion would be crowned on the field as opposed to the meeting room.

Blundered is right. Up until now, Jones has been trying to start Romo.

Nobody likes you when you tell us this, you know.

Not sure anyone likes me even when I don't post that. :lmao:

Glad you had a great trip. I think i posted on FB as well. I did the resale contract back before any restrictions and saved a lot of $. Not only is direct more expensive per price of point, there are more points needed for Polynesian & Grand Floridian vs Boardwalk & Old Key West. I haven't kept up to date on the changes to the restrictions, but if you have any other questions, feel free to ask. The one advice I read and I would pass on to others - buy into the (home) resort where you want to stay.

Brian and I have managed to meet up three times, including the families once. Unfortunately I have never been able to make the schedule work to meet Brent.

Just curious, how does a chap from London end up getting so into American sports like football and baseball? Have things changed much with the TV coverage? I remember when I lived in Aberdeen trying to get some NHL games, the best I found was a weekly highlight reel on Sky sports, or something like that. Of course it was 1998, so the internet has changed things since.

Will post a picture for you as a reference when I get a chance
That would be cool.

Wow, not a good fourth quarter for the Blue Bombers...

Glad you enjoyed your trip, saw your pictures on FB. I can see how you would feel strange doing it with out DS, I would probably feel that way too. I have not done the DVC tour but if the pressure is low, it might be worth it just for the freebies. How long does it take?

Morning chaps, from a drizzly London.

It's not so much the internet, it's more the satellite platform. The NFL has always had presence, since I was a kid, which is why I'm into it, as well as seeing live games. The NFL series in London are constant sell-outs at 90,000 a time and they shut Regent St for a tailgate. Its almost an accepted truth that a London franchise is in the medium term, and most likely the Jaguars. Most of my mates have a NFL team they follow, for a multitude of reasons. Which is why the London franchise will be interesting. It's a big ask to switch your team that you have been following for 30 odd years to another, just because they moved into the back yard, so until the team that comes builds it own fan base, it's almost going to be like playing on the road. I have noticed in the last couple of years the crowd getting more like a home one (especially around 3rd and short plays) and the appreciation or calling out stuff like pass interference, holding, whereas when we first went, a lot of people has a limited understanding of the rules.

Sky (owned by Fox) carry 3 live games every Sunday night and MNF. They also do the NFL Red Zone live, so I'm sure not to miss teams scoring against the Bears. They also show NBA about 4 or 5 times a week. BT Sport has a tie up with ESPN, one of the channels is basically ESPN HD unfiltered, so we get Baseball, College Football, CFL, March Madness as well as PTU and most of the other talk shows.

Sorry, long answer to a short question.

Hope everyone is well and has a great week. Now I'm back to trying to achieve reentry to the real world
Welcome back outside the bubble, it was fun to watch your updates....

Morning gents. Another (relatively) warm day is in the works. Unfortunately the roads are wet from last night's rain, so the bike has to stay home. Still +6C/43F with a projected high of 10C/50F isn't too shabby.

Top O the Morning Dads! FIL has been sick with some kind of crud for a bit now. Went to his Doc for second time with this got some shots and more medication - already on 3 inhalers. Doc says if not clearing up by end of week likely gonna put him in hospital. He's 84 and not what you would call in good physical shape which isn't helping so we will see.

Glad you had a good time and good luck getting back into the real world. I hear ya with DS i struggle not having the family with me even when I go to Orlando for business, it's like where is everyone?

Tried something new this AM and went to the gym before work. I'm not sure if I like it or not. I play tennis this afternoon and hope I recover by then.

Raining here too, which I don't mind as much as it washes the car as I drive it around.

Prayers for your FIL.

Thanks for the info. I need to fire a spreadsheet to run some calculations on whether going the resale route saves us money with shorter term of contract and loss of benefits (which I know are just perks and should not really be counted on). I'll likely be reaching out to folks as we get closer to a purchase.

From the time they picked us up to the time we got to Hollywood Studios (where we asked to be dropped off) was about 2.5 hours. Actual presentation was about 90+ minutes. But we asked A LOT of questions. Very low pressure and we also got continental breakfast. Everyone from the van drivers to the lady dipping the ice cream were super nice.

Just make sure you're comparing apples to apples or better yet, resort to resort. I found a resale contract for $67 a point thru TimeShare Store, which was an easy choice. We always planned to stay in studios, and it may have been cheaper to stay at a value resort with ticket package or room % deal. However, the Boardwalk is just an amazing resort and I wish I had found it when my children were younger, and could have walked the stroller back from two parks instead of loading onto the bus. We now tend to spend more time at the resort, only going to the parks every other day. We tried the other DVC resorts at WDW except the new GF & Poly, and will probably spend most of the rest of them at the Boardwalk. We had been 5 times before buying into DVC, and realized this would be a future destination. Ultimately, I liked that I got a good deal, but it wasn't the numbers that convinced me.

Wow, I didn't realize it was started that long ago. I haven't been here a year yet, so there's quite a bit of history I've missed out on.
I'm half of that buddy, only been here since May.
I laugh and think I'm in the Ghostbusters movie, burning the stay puft marshmallow man.
Remember not to cross the streams.
The tour was not bad at all.
Where did they take you? Did you pick the resorts? Or was it the SSR building?
Still +6C/43F with a projected high of 10C/50F isn't too shabby
Shouldn't you be neck deep in snow by now?
FIL has been sick with some kind of crud for a bit now.
Best wishes from this side Mike.

Watching the Crown on Netflix with DW, its not half bad.
Have a magical evening all.
