DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Happy Wednesday.

DS lost 1-0 in his last JV game. Played second base and had 3 put outs. Only one at bat. The run scored on an error, 2 wild pitches and then a hit. Not a good way to lose. On to the Varsity and state tournament on Thursday. DD won her softball game 19-13. We are now 4-7 with one game left next week and teetering on making the playoffs.:thumbsup2 She is 4-4 on the season as the starting pitcher. Had a triple on an absolute rocket down the left field line in the 5th inning.:yay: Then ran home on a pop up and was double up when the girl caught it.:headache: Still working on base running and not running into outs. Oh well. We can laugh about it now.

Hope all are well. Unofficial start of summer is upon us. Enjoy the rest of the week, I'll be off line for a few days but will try to check in.

Good luck to your DS with the Varsity and state tourney.

Sounds like your DD should be the pitcher in that last game.

Happy Wednesday from Nashville. An impromptu trip didn't leave me enough time to contact Philip and Mike and plan a meet. We ate lunch at Chile's in Opry Mills Mall and are now shopping away.

True story, they found an alligator eating pieces of a corpse in Broward County today. I have visual proof that it was not the boyfriend. I did point it out to him though. Moral of the story, bodies are easily disposed of in South Florida. You just need to bring them further out in the Everglades.

Good tip for future use. :lmao:

Nothing new on the budget news other than a dollar figure. The department needs to cut just shy of $100K. It is going to be ugly but I should make it through.

Glad you are making it thru. I just need 6 more years of making it thru.

Top O the Mornin Dads! One more day but need to get 2 days of month end close crap done today at the office. Have a good one and will stop by here with a few pics when I can.

All that work will be there when you get back. Or, is that government think? :lmao:

Hey All, we made it to June!!!

:dancer::cool1::woohoo:

As opposed to just skipping to July?

I would say "needs more babes" but then we'd have to find a new clubhouse.

There's always pictures. And, the thread that should not be named.

Enjoy some summer downtime after all the sports.

Thanks. Yeah, she has been pitching as she is the most consistent at throwing strikes. I'm hoping we hear back before Monday if we are in or not. If the game doesn't matter I'll let others pitch and play so I can have the better players in more for playoffs.

Enjoy some summer downtime after all the sports.

:faint::sad2::sad2: If only it were that easy. Varsity summer hoops for DS and summer hoop tourney play for DD start in 2 weeks. I think we avoided the AAU thing though so at least we'll have our weekends free this year.:thumbsup2

The plan for DD and I is to do 5K this year, 5K and 10K the next year. After that we'll see about the half, but seriously doubt my knee would take 13 miles. Not even sure the doctor would be happy about the 10K. Good luck in your training and we'll have to make sure to say hi in January.
Thought about attempting a half possibly if all goes well with the 10k, but I'm guessing like you my knee wouldn't do too well with that distance. I think I'll top out with the 10k. Not as much of a time commitment on race day, and not so wiped out I can't enjoy the rest of my day and the parks.

Good luck in your training too, and it would be great to get the chance to say Hi in January!

I'm competitive, so I want to be able to run it in 15-20 minutes.
Totally understand the competitive thing. I ran a lot more of the Expedition Everest 5k than I thought I would, but I guess the adrenaline kicked in during the race. Still, for someone who never was what you would call a "runner" and not starting to try until in my 50s, I can easily leave those 15-20 minute time ranges to my youngest DS, who did those on his HS XC team last year. We started the EE 5k in corral J, and we finished ahead of people that started in Corral E, so I'm more than fine with that. At this point, I'm good with the 45 pounds I've lost since I started this journey, finishing the race, living to tell about it..........and wearing the medal.

Tough loss for the final JV game, but an effort to be proud of. Good luck to your DS and DD with their remaining games!

Happy Thursday. Enjoyed a nice day of shopping yesterday with the family. We mostly ate lunch and just walked around. DW and the dds bought a few things while there, but no smoke on the credit card. :lmao:

A little disappointed with Opry Mills Mall. One of the stores has a rock climbing wall that I let the dds do, but it was closed. The aquarium restaurant used to have their shark statue outside and a cove of manta rays for kids to feed, but they were both gone. Several outlet stores were closed, glow in dark mini golf gone, and there were a few other things missing. I know it's all about profit for business, but I enjoyed those fun extras. Now, I just seemed like an overly priced mall that I really don't want to visit.

Well, 2 weeks of enjoyment? :rotfl:

Oldest dd is doing long course swim with practice 6 days a week and two meets scheduled right now. She may qualify for championships and we would add a third. Youngest dd starts a month of tennis at 4 times a week - two days group lessons and two days match play, with a tournament at the end of it. I'm playing in a team tournament in June and an individual tournament in August. If I can get it cleared with the director, I'll play down with my youngest in August with a mixed doubles in that same tournament. I'm getting tired typing all that.

There should be a do not like button on here. And when you post something inflammatory like this if it gets too many votes you have to buy every dad a dole whip with rum.

I think Darcy should just send us all dole whips. :lmao:

!

Congrats on the weight loss. I've lost some weight and am playing tennis far more competitively than I have in 20+ years. Granted, a decade of that was sitting on my a$$ getting fat. I wish I had made more time for the sport when I was younger, but I just figured there would always be more time later and that school/ work was more important. I've found a new racquet & string combination and look forward to testing myself this month against competition.

With all that said, I still need to lose more weight before I try the 5K. I doubt I will ever run and compete at the level I did in high school even though I somehow think I will be able to.

Where you off to this year?

The boring flyover sta--uh, I mean, The Heartland Of America!

Doing a loop starting in Minneapolis. We'll see the Lake Superior coast, Voyageurs NP, Teddy Roosevelt NP, Devil's Tower, Badlands, Mount Rushmore, meet-up with Aaron in KC for BBQ, St. Louis Arch, meet-up with Barry in WI, Lambeau Field, back to Minneapolis, home, crash.

(I'll name it... I like to live dangerously)

Sorry, you're just gonn'a have to suffer through June.
I plan to be spending some quality time on the SC beaches in the near and I'd rather not be skipping over such.

So this is why the rum is always gone...

I'll settle for just a bit of the rum.

They have one of those large "Mills" shoper-tainment malls over here as well.
We haven't been up to it in years but I suspect that it would be a similar story.
between the economy shift and the Amazon effect, most mall foot traffic is way down.
Makes it tough for the impulse experience venues that depend on such.

Really hope you can find time to write up a TR on this one after y'all get back.

Is it better with four kids? I mean, does the noise just drown out all the fighting and whining? I dread driving my two to WDW, just because of the two of them fighting all the time.

.

No, I don't want to skip June. Living in KY, May thru October is fine. After that, who really knows. Both DW and I plan to retire in Florida below Orlando and keep warm all the time. I just hope that plan works.

How could I forget that?

Hopefully it'll work out. Stay tuned...

I don't know if I'd say "better"...but my kids travel really well. I think we've done it enough times that they're used to the drill by now.

Doing some of that late August. Devil's Tower and Mt Rushmore. Heading west from there to Yellowstone. Going to check out Medicine Wheel on the way.

Home from tennis tonite. The other player was my skill level, but almost 20 years younger. I lost the first set 2-6, but was even with him at 4-5 in 2nd before Court time ended. Not sure I would have had enough in the tank left to win, but glad I pushed him.

We've made over 15 trips to WDW but they still fight all the time. Maybe they can ride with you. I doubt you will notice two extra.

Da Boys have landed :yoda:

ESPN club outside the Boardwalk resort. That's a great place to be.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Off to MK today. Disney Springs town center is really nice but it is a bit too "mallish" with some high end stores. Not sure if this is targeted at locals or what but get us to the Disney Store. Boathouse served best filet I believe I have ever had.

Inside was better with cold beverage and some wings
