DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
It has been awhile since I was last on this board, life and work got in the way. :)
We have a Disney trip planned for June and it is our first in like 3 years.
What are some local Breweries in Orlando and which ones would you all recommend. I was hoping to bring some home brew with me but, I will not have anything ready in time.

Is this not the single driving point behind every picture ever taken of one’s young’ens?
I certainly think so. I'm already collecting them. I'm sure they will come in useful for a wedding speech at some point, or something along those lines!

Cool, rainy day up here. Too bad the folks in Fort MacMurray couldn't get some of this wet weather. That wild fire is crazy and I don't know how they will ever recover from that.
I am amazed by the video and pictures coming out of Fort Mac. 1600+ homes gone. I can't imagine. I have a cousin living there. He and his wife made it out but have no idea yet if their house survived. I hope Alberta gets rain soon. They need it desperately. I wish I could send them some of our east coast weather. Forecast has rain for the next week in St. John's.

Evening all. At work... but almost didn't. Back's bugging me a lot right now. Not serious pain, but not a lot of fun, either.
Just a tad warm here today. Right now (4pm) it's 34C/93F out.

DW and both kids have allergies to animals. While they are not considered allergy free, a lot of people are not allergic due to the pelt and grooming habits. So far 5 months and not even a sniffle.

Huh. Not bad. Probably surprising to you as well, I'd think?

So far, one has eaten about 2 tablespoons of butter (they are lactose intolerant):headache:

Uh, oh. That's not going to end well (emphasis on "end")

they learned how to turn the water on when we are not around (had to come up with a way to stop them):faint:,

They what?!? You did say cats, right? Not monkeys?

have surpassed my rung on the ladder of control.:rolleyes1

So they made it above the bottom rung.

can drink with a straw:eek:

Not possible. Just... not.

Cats, right?

Hope you feel better soon. I always work more when home than I ever do in the office.

Actually worse today than yesterday. Hoping for better tomorrow.
I can't work from home, so working on a day off means going in to work.

Picked up her graduation gown.

Papa not proud at all, nope. Not even a little.

I’m neigh on to certain those two sentences are incompatible with one and other.

I wish.

Is this not the single driving point behind every picture ever taken of one’s young’ens?

::yes::

Here's a video of what some people were facing as they evacuated from from Fort MacMurray area. Sorry about the language

Can't see it since it's at work, but I'm sure it's the same one I saw at home.
That's just nuts, isn't it? I wonder though... If there was another way out, I'm thinking they wouldn't let anyone on that road.

A bit of space history: Today in 1961 Alan Shepard became the 1st American in space, completing a 15 minute sub-orbital flight.

Cool!

Right now the only school she is applying to is UM. They have a very good Marine graduate program.

A friend sent me a post from her where she said that today (5/5) is the anniversary of the showing of the first Stacey series. Happened in 2005.

Glad to know she figured out what she wanted to do. I'm still working on that. I talk to my girls everyday and finding what makes them happy, and then figuring out a way to make money at it. Stupid office jobs are....stupid.

Never leave the resort, other than to go to Mass and/or the grocery store. Sorry, no recommendations from me. I can tell you my favorite WDW lounges. :lmao:

Scary...
Truly Scary.

Has Disney priced itself out of the market for a family of four? It's getting close for me.
Dang close to it.
If we go down there with more the two folks ir will require some kind of a deal and almost certainly be off-site (and without any extras). The visit I'm trying to put together this fall would be an exception because there'd only be two of us and I'm trying to make up for having been unable to travel during our anniversary.

And if it weren't for wanting to run "just one more test" that sentence would have been quite different.

Headed to The U, huh.
Not your favorite institution, but she'd be a whole lot closer to home.
And you'd have plenty of opportunities to drive her complacently wacky.

Saw the CNN show "The Sixties" and they showed Evil jumping over a fountain. He missed.
The Vegas jump...
Had a tenancy to do that about every third shot.
It's amazing the guy was even capable of getting back on a bike.

I certainly think so. I'm already collecting them. I'm sure they will come in useful for a wedding speech at some point, or something along those lines!
Black mail...
Save them for when you really need 'em.
Especially after they have kids of their own that they don't want see'n them.

Glad to know she figured out what she wanted to do. I'm still working on that.
Me too...
I know many things I want to do.
Not a one of them pays anything of course.

Stupid office jobs are....stupid.
I use to like mine. Really...
But it changed so over time.
Sucked the joy right out of it.

There would be a slight DVC discount, but that price is a sticker shock. We would go with 3 days of park tickets and just do MK during the MNSSHP. Now, I guess I can watch the Hallowishes fireworks from TOTWL until Disney starts charging for that.

Has Disney priced itself out of the market for a family of four? It's getting close for me.
Yes a slight DVC discount, but still those are crazy prices. There's a big difference between being able to afford it, and thinking it is anywhere close to money well spent. :sad2:

And funny that you mention TOTWL.............hopefully no Disney Execs are reading along because it wouldn't surprise me to see them act on your sarcastic suggestion............. :scared:

:thumbsup2

These continued (and exponentially escalating) prices are getting out of hand. $95 is just absurd and you won't see me getting a ticket for a while.
I've been to MNSSHP once at MK, and twice at Disneyland. It really isn't worth that much money to walk around with the hoards, stand in long lines and look for some "free" candy. The parades are pretty good, and I liked the one in MK better. The only reason for repeating the party in DL last year was because it was a quick one day visit, and an easy and cheaper way to sneak into DL during the 60th celebration. :woohoo:

What a difference a day makes. About 8 inches of rain over the last 2 days and today it is sunny, low 80's and a little wind to keep the humidity down. Perfect.

Sounds like a perfect Spring Miami-like day. Enjoy it immensely!

He who laughs last.... How old is Emma now?

Ummmm... 13... going on 17 :scared: She came out of her room yesterday morning wearing some sort of outfit that magically transformed her into a much older teenage. I promptly told her to go back in there and come out with my 10 year old. She didn't listen to me.

She gets the piece of paper may 16th. I leave here the 11th and we hope to have her packed up on the 14th.

Man, time is flying by. Traveling mercies to ya!

Where there's a way to squeeze money out of a wallet Disney will find a way. Especially with all the big projects they have underway in the parks. Stay tuned for overexposure and pure abuse of the Star Wars brand.

She CAN'T be THAT old! Nooooo... lol

Same here. I used to only have to worry about MY job. I could add about 5 different job titles to my name now :charac2:

Taking the family to the 1:45 pm showing of Captain America Civil War today. Hope DD can focus at least a little bit in school today!

Morning Men. Another soggy day here. Doesn't look like we'll get to Busch Gardens today. It's a good thing we don't tell DS (who's three) until we are departing the house. Otherwise, I'd be staying at work while the DW deals with a very unhappy boy. By not telling him, he's none the wiser and our day goes much better. I'm thinking of still cutting out early and going home and being lazy. I'm sure that'll last all of five minutes when the DW gives me some chores to do. Gotta earn my dinner somehow.

I'm sure the park would be all yours today! lol. Did you hear BG closed early one day due to lack of attendance? Blamed it on the weather forecast (only 40% of thunderstorms... that never happened). People were expressing their frustration with them on FB.
Enjoy your (hopefully) lazy Friday afternoon!

I missed that but it doesn't surprise me. Seem to remember them doing that last year as well. Wouldn't surprise me if they did it again today.

I think I liked mine because it was something new and something I was supposed to do with a college degree. Not sure I ever liked it.

They will take that perk away as soon as they can figure out how to make more $ from it. I did like the MNSSHP. We stayed at the resort, swam, played pool games, and then went to the party at 4:00 PM. People started leaving and the crowd levels were low. We were able to do every ride with little wait. Either it got more popular or Disney sold more tickets, but it later started to get more crowded. But, the trade off was 8 hours in park, cool weather (night), and the best fireworks Hallowishes for a lot cheaper. Now, it's only 8 hours for $10-20 less than a regular one day park ticket?

But then spirals back to 4 year old in fighting with sister. Well, that's mine. She's 14 now, so now much older than Emma.

Believe it or not, DW wants to go tomorrow as her mother's day present. Sounds like a winner to me. I still bought flowers for her.

Another beautiful day down here. Lots of running around and not much accomplished. Did get my hair cut though.

We have a Disney trip planned for June and it is our first in like 3 years.

Sorry I can't help with the local breweries but hope you have a great trip.

Headed to The U, huh.

Not happy about the u but it is a great school for marine ecology. She will be staying at home so it saves money. And I am sure she will drive me as nuts as I do her.

Man, time is flying by. Traveling mercies to ya!

Thanks. We were going to stop at BG on the way down. Now I'm not sure that is going to happen but if it does, I'll let you know.

A winning streak on the weather! Bonus!

If the stars line up and you are able to visit BG please let me know. Mal might could make it there, too.

Let us know what you think of it.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Two thumbs up! If you liked either of the previous CA movies you will not be disappointed with this one! A few surprises for me. Will have to see it again. Tip... stay for ALL the credits.

.

So, she's a great kid as long as she's not living at home? :lmao:

I think the same away about mine. I was hoping she would grow out of it.

I still haven't seen the second one.
Got it queued up on Netflix, though.
!

Winter Soldier may have been the most well done of the bunch.
