DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Congrats to Declan and the team!

Waiting patiently to say hello again when you are in the area.

Thanks, given the year he had on both club and school volleyball, he was pretty happy to be part of winning the banner.

Looking forward to heading your way in a couple of weeks.

DD15 is in grade 10 this year. Last year she auditioned for and won a spot in the Senior Provincial Honour Band, this year she did the same with the Juniour Honour Band. She (they) has her concert tonight.
So work, concert, work.
I like the middle part the best.

Understandable. And congrats to DD!

Enjoyed the new Captain America movie today. I won't post any spoilers other than this one - Hulk isn't in it. :lmao:

Great. Now I don't have to see it.

Just kidding, I'm going in a couple of weeks.

Another season has come to an end - JV high school volleyball ended this afternoon with DS and his team-mates beating their cross-town rival to win the Provincial banner for the second year in a row. It capped a second straight season of not dropping a match.

Wow, you guys are pretty good at sports. You should get into it for a living or something.:rolleyes1

I'm picking up my fifth official added job this month. I suspect you've received the same 0% of the total saved in salaries and benies from those other dropped positions that I've received to now, right?

:faint:

Forgot to give a shout out to DW yesterday. She ran her third 5 ever (part of the Fredericton Marathon) and posted her best time yet, 30.03. Pretty proud of her and her dedication to keep at the running she does.

That is impressive. My dedication to running usually lasts about 30 minutes.

Morning guys. Another sunny, low humidity day today. Perfect. Unfortunately I am running around the rest of the day but at least I can drive around with the windows down. Lots of stuff to do before the drive to the great white north. The Kid's last final of her undergraduate studies is today and I imagine there will be some partying going on at Seton Hall tonight.

Either way, it's win in the young'ens column; he made his momma smile.

The boy did good. They surprise us sometimes.

Heading in to the Red Sox game tonight for "STAR WARS" night.

Enjoy. Did anything move into the space next to the ballpark where the bar/restaurant was?

Down 3 pounds so far since the start of the diet/training last week. Goal is around 70:eek:, That's like another little person. The good thing is that both DS and DD have climbed on board "get healthy" express so it makes it a little easier

Way to go and it is also good the kids are joining you. Marathon weekend is a nice reward for the work. Congrats to your DD on another championship.

14:eek: That's like a whole year older than DD. You'll have to send warnings on what I have to watch out for.:confused3

I'm sitting back with a bowl of popcorn while you guys go through what us older guys already experienced.

They re-opened Remy's, but with a new owner and him having no ownership interest - only a royalty to use the name. They changed the menu some to make it a little smaller and more efficient. The beer is still cold and plentiful as well. We actually went into the game on Patriots day and had breakfast there prior to heading to the park. It was still your basic bar/sports cub type of fare, but decent.

Oh, I'm sure there will be a lot of :faint::faint: days ahead with DD. Right now she has dyed the edges of her hair blue. I explained Kylo Ren has a red light saber and that she is on the wrong side again. She was not amused.

Morning all. Only one more hour to go and my 16 hour shift is in the bag.
Then off to bed for a few hours until the puppy's barking wakes me up... hopefully after 1pm, but we'll see.

My 7.5 hour shift had enough work for me to get done in 4 hours. So, I finished and went home. I do have 1 email still to respond to tomorrow.

My boy actually remembered to get his ma' a small something; a Minny Mouse Coffee Cup and coordinating cup stand/warmer for her office. You'd think that there were Disney addicts in my house or something. Since he was planning to stay up at school for a couple of summer semester courses, we took a pic of mom and her new trinket and sent it to him as a thank you. He replied back that it was only part of the gift. We then took my MIL out for lunch and returned home latter on to find that the boy had driven home to see his mom. Actually, it turns out the the first summer class could be done completely on-line so he was able to come home and doesn't have to go back for the other class until it starts up in June. Either way, it's win in the young'ens column; he made his momma smile.

Goes without sayin'
Have you met a youn'en that didn't fit that description?
:rotfl2:
.

Congrats on raising him right to give mom a present.

As for living at home, yeah, I guess you are right. I was a terror to live with a got my butt busted more times than I can remember. Living on my own helped me to figure out some of it.

Down 3 pounds so far since the start of the diet/training last week. Goal is around 70:eek:, That's like another little person. The good thing is that both DS and DD have climbed on board "get healthy" express so it makes it a little easier (and they get to suffer along with me:goodvibes) We'll see if DW tags along, not yet convinced judging by her dessert choice last night and then raiding my ice cream bars (similar to Mickey Bars) that we keep as a treat after every 10 pounds lost.

Still a lot of sticker shock going on in our house. We are trying to decide if another trip is going to happen near term. It's getting close to the "well, we can afford it, but do we really want to save that much for a vacation" point for us. I'm sure that attitude may change when all the new construction is complete. Right now it just seems like the add ons and increases are starting to bring some negativity. College for DS in 2 years isn't helping either.

I hear you on that one. My DD13 has continually continued to get older after repeated demands to not do so. Thankfully sports and other activities have limited the whole "boyfriend" thing that is starting to effect some of her friends. As the good father I am, every time I hear the boyfriend thing associated with her friends, I completely forbid her speaking to that friend again.:thumbsup2 Of course based on her texting she's not listening to me there either.:faint:

It's not just the increasing costs, but the fact that the parties and now as busy or busier than a normal day. A lot to spend for a parade and the fireworks.

14:eek: That's like a whole year older than DD. You'll have to send warnings on what I have to watch out for.:confused3

:

Congrats on the weight loss. Drink a few beers and watch it go back up.

I wish I had advice to give you. My oldest is so immature, especially about boys. Unfortunately, she doesn't look young but she acts it. Her little swim boyfriend likes her as much as she likes him (according to the parents), but they are both so awkward that they won't tell each other. Dating life consists of texts. Dad monitors cell phone data.

That is impressive. My dedication to running usually lasts about 30 minutes.

That long? I managed a 1 minute, 4 mph run on treadmill. That's enough work for me.

Lord, you work a ton of hours.
Compensation is a good thing though, but unfortunately I wouldn't get a single extra penny for more hours, myself.

Some of it's self imposed, others... not so much.
We get paid extra for working nights and weekends.
Not a lot, but some.

Enough of that noise; how was the concert?

Excellent! I actually preferred this one (intermediate Honour Band) to the last one (Senior Honour Band).

And, congrats to the girl for the work it took to make that honor.

Thanks! I'll pass that along!

I'll likely not see it any time soon, so as far as I'm concerned you can spoil away ;)

Nooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, cats!?! I'm wondering if they are some kind of scientific experiment gone wrong.

Prayers and pixie dust you are feeling better soon.

Unfortunately took a slight turn for the worse... but it's only pain, not incapacitation.

Wish DD luck and a great show!

Thanks, and it was!

Congrats on making the Honour band.

Thanks! I'll tell her!

You Candians and your provincials. Every time I hear that it makes me laugh for some reason.

 Yeah, I can see that. "Oh those Canadians... so provincial." (Said with a British accent and great disdain.)

But is it worse to be Provincial or in a constant State?

Sorry the back is still acting up. DD and I have been walking 2-3 miles every day. After almost 3 years of recovery and my knee not responding all that well I decided it's just going to be sore.

Yeah... I hear you. We took the dogs out for a walk the other day and I was walking the little one. She wanted to run, so... what the heck.
I ran... re-injuring my recuperating back.

FML. Don't get old.
(Although it's far too late for the majority of us)

Understandable. And congrats to DD!

Thanks! I'll tell her.

Lots of stuff to do before the drive to the great white north.

:sad2:

The Kid's last final of her undergraduate studies is today and I imagine there will be some partying going on at Seton Hall tonight.

Kids do that?

Nah.

I'm sitting back with a bowl of popcorn while you guys go through what us older guys already experienced.

Nice.

::yes::

two days.
I was supposed to work two night shifts, but to accommodate someone, I worked an evening shift and a night shift instead. It means working 16 in a row, but I actually prefer that than two 8 hour night shifts. But when I woke up at 2pm today, there was a text from work... guess where I am now!

Great job! And impressive time! :woohoo:

Nope.
about 1 hour left. Getting a wee bit tired.
But DW called and said that Dad got in on an earlier flight and is already home. So at least I don't have to stay up til 1am waiting for him now.

ADR Day is today! Well, actually it was yesterday, but since we are doing a split-stay with only one night at SSR before moving over to VWL, the bulk of the reservations were made today. Here's what we have so far. We're going doing F&W (Nov 5-12), so we are planning on spending a good bit of time munching on various delectable delights from 'Round the World.

Sat - Raglan Road
Sun - Be Our Guest for lunch and 'Ohana for dinner
Mon - F&W for Lunch and San Angel Inn for dinner
Tue - Columbia Harbour House for lunch as part of Keys to Kingdom Tour and F&W for dinner
Wed - Somewhere in AK for lunch and 50's Primetime Cafe for dinner
Thu - F&W (Lunch) and either F&W or Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue for dinner
Fri - Artist Point for dinner

What are your opinions of Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue? This is a 10-year anniversary trip without the DS (3yo) so we are doing things that he'd like not be interested in for several more years.

We put in our ADR a while back. But I'll share as well, it's fun!

Tues - Arrive at o dark thirty. (Well it is only 7 o'clock, but we got awesome plane tickets, so we don't have to drive.)
Wed - Be our Guest - Lunch
Crystal Palace - Dinner
Thur - 1900 Park Fare - Dinner
Fri - Akershus Royal Banquet - Dinner
Sat - Tusker House - Breakfast
Sun - Chef Mickey - Brunch
Mon - Liberty Tree Tavern - Dinner
Tues - Leave at midday

This is the wife and I's 16th Anniversary, but we will have our three kids(All Girls) with us, so we are more focused on them getting to see all the Princesses. I skipped the Royal Table, but heck we are seeing two of the three princess meals and enough character meals that everyone should be happy.

Any thoughts or things we should look into changing?

Morning Guys.

Sun is shinning here, hope it is wherever you are.

Jealous seeing those ADRs, wish we were planning some of those.

Morning guys. Pick up the car and final preparation stuff today. More running around.

Forgot to give a shout out to DW yesterday. She ran her third 5 ever (part of the Fredericton Marathon) and posted her best time yet, 30.03. Pretty proud of her and her dedication to keep at the running she does.

Big congrats to your DW. Impressive time.

It was still your basic bar/sports cub type of fare, but decent.

Remy's! I forgot the name. Good to hear it isn't just an empty space. I enjoyed the buzz going around before the game, not something you get down here.

Excellent! I actually preferred this one (intermediate Honour Band) to the last one (Senior Honour Band).

Congratulations to DD on a successful concert.

Yeah... I hear you. We took the dogs out for a walk the other day and I was walking the little one. She wanted to run, so... what the heck.

Damn dogs. Heal quickly.

.. guess where I am now!

Disney World?

What are your opinions of Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue? This is a 10-year anniversary trip without the DS (3yo) so we are doing things that he'd like not be interested in for several more years.

Good choices on ADR's. Last time I was there for F&W, I made several meals just strolling around the World Showcase.

I enjoy Hoop. The food is good, not great. I like the fried chicken and the cornbread. The show is the same old time Disney corny stuff that I enjoy. They will also ask for celebrations in the audience so raise your hand when they ask.

We put in our ADR a while back. But I'll share as well, it's fun!

Sounds like a plan. Never did Akershus, not adventurous enough to try it.

I went when I was once when I was 11/12 yrs old. I remember not being that entertaining. Maybe I would enjoy it now maybe not. We went to Spirit of Aloha 2 years ago and loved it. It was cold and raining and being outside performance wasn't all that great, but I really enjoyed the show.

Morning all. Worked out at Planet Fitness and played tennis last night. First time for two workouts in one day. I'm sore but not dead. I wish I had been doing this for the last decade and kept the weight off.

Some of it's self imposed, others... not so much.
We get paid extra for working nights and weekends.
Not a lot, but some.

We really enjoyed HDDR. It was a great show with lots of humor, with some suggestive statements that went over the heads of young children. Food was fried chicken. Everyone in KY has a fried chicken recipe (not just KFC), which is why we skip 50s Primetime Cafe. I want something new. HDDR has price included water to drink, er um, Bud Light. We've missed Raglan Road all these trips, but been to the rest of the list, and they are good choices.

We put in our ADR a while back. But I'll share as well, it's fun!

Another good list. We usually do Akershus for breakfast because my dds eat breakfast food better than dinner. It is a difficult ADR to get. Plus, if I get it for breakfast, I can talk DW into Via Napoli for dinner.

The wife was not too keen on breakfast ADR's. She likes to sleep in. I always have to control myself and not wake everyone up at 6 am. But this year, if people want to sleep in, I and my oldest daughter like to get up early, and I am going to get her to 'sneak' out with me and get the day started. Well until my wife get's mad at me and tells me I have to wait for her. :)

But I figure one morning I might get away with it. Heck, if all three girls want to let mom sleep in and come with me, that is fine as well. But my youngest will sleep just like her mother well into the afternoon. So we shall see.

Morning gents.
Just another day in the life.
It's my first day off so that means.
Up at 7 to drive DD to school
Shopping for groceries after.
Cooking supper.
Take dog to vet for follow up
Rest of afternoon and night at work.

Sat - Raglan Road
Sun - Be Our Guest for lunch and 'Ohana for dinner
Mon - F&W for Lunch and San Angel Inn for dinner

That looks pretty good to me.

Never been, but most (not all) reviews of the revu are good.

Sun is shinning here, hope it is wherever you are.

Nope. Rain. And that's a good thing. Hopefully knock out some of the fires.

Congratulations to DD on a successful concert.

Thanks!

Damn dogs. Heal quickly.

My own damn fault. Fat hurts.

Disney World?

Bite your tongue!!!

Morning guys. Pick up the car and final preparation stuff today. More running around.

But it's for a good cause!

My wife is the same way. Before our son was born I would get up and get hot chocolate and play games on my laptop in the resort restaurant for an hour until she was ready. It was actually really relaxing way to start the day.

Hopefully now that we have a kid things and stay the same, but with a 6 months old who knows. He'll be almost a year when we go for our next trip this October.

I'm back again, just like a bad penny. The wet weather has allowed me to get almost caught up. I'm sure there is something I have forgotten though so it is all a grand illusion. Not time to panic yet but we just passed our frost free date and it is time to get the crops in the ground.

Congrats, safe travels, heal up and whatever other sentiments are appropriate since last I was on. No time to go back and see all I missed.
