DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Happy Saturday. I'm trying to figure out plans with my parents, who are making it extremely difficult. I know they are advancing in age, but it is just now that overly selfish thing. As in, "I volunteer on Tuesday so that day doesn't work". Would it be terrible if I didn't visit? I want to set a good example, but it is really difficult. :furious:

The menu was finalized last night. We will be dining on my NY Strip (and her Tofurkey thing), twice backed potatoes, Sauted mushrooms, grilled asparagus, and baked apples for desert.
.

Sounds like a great menu, minus the tofourkey. I'm not sure we finalized ours yet. DW has been making meatballs from ground sheep (meat, garlic, onion, olive oil, bread crumbs) and we have ate them with spaghetti & sauce, sandwich, and in crock pot in glaze (chili sauce & grape jelly). Those might be on the menu.

Club volleyball has thankfully come to an end. Probably the worst experience DS has ever had thanks to one JA coach. Hopefully he'll play again some time.

Hate to hear about the bad experience. My youngest decided to quit dive. It wasn't a bad experience, but she just couldn't get past her fear. Maybe she will try again next year. She is still swimming though, which is good exercise and team sport involvement.

Morning guys,

Last of the presents were wrapped last night so I am officially ready for Christmas. The kid's birthday is around Marathon Weekend so she gets money to buy merch. at the Expo. The hottest item every year is the specialty character running shoes by New Balance. They gave out hints two days ago and one might be Ariel. Now she confesses she would die if she didn't get a pair. It never stops, even when they are 21.

DD14... whoops! DD15's birthday today. Right now making pancakes for the birthday girl.

Happy 15th to the Princess. I am sure daddy did everything in his power to make it a great day.

Looking forward to those temps. Great sounding menu (for the most part).

Don't get me wrong, I love 85 degree weather but the one day a year I want cooler temps is Christmas morning. Reminds me of growing up in NY.

I hate that. Seem my share of jerks coaching. Hopefully he shakes it off and finds his joy for the game.

Sounds tasty. The jelly in the glaze is interesting. I am sure you will be well fed with the number of stops. It can be a blessing as well as a burden like with the difficulties with your parents.

Still bummed you and Jodi are not going to be able to join us at the World.

Christmas with the in-laws yesterday. One down, two to go. I don't know how much I'll be on so an early Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!

Morning all...
I suspect it will be a mite quiet 'round here this week.
I'm only working half days through Wednesday and not at all the rest of the week.
Well... I wont be working at work after that at least.

Hope everyone is having more good times that trying (or tiring) ones.

Morning guys,

Not much going on today, waiting for the kid to turn up tomorrow night. She is going into the city today to see the Rockefeller tree and 5th Avenue. I have a couple of errands including stoping at the doctors to have some blood drawn. Just routine tests. Starting to get ready for Marathon weekend. Pulled out some of my Disney clothes and started packing. You can tell I am totally bored.

Hope everyone has a good one.

One potential family holiday misadventure down which is good. Remember those days with not so fond memories.

Hope everyone is having more good times that trying (or tiring) ones.

Same to you.

Good morning. Thinking about taking DS to see Star Wars tonight after work. If not tonight, we'll surely find some time to see it this week.

Morning all...
Hope all are well and strong with the force. It may be a while before I get to see it but the reviews are coming in pretty strong.

Took today off so I could do a few season related tasks. Good idea in theory, but as usual, plans change. This morning DW notices that there is water leaking from somewhere under the bath room sink. turns out the trap has rotted through so now I get to spend the morning fixing that instead. I have a spare trap, but its the wrong size for the current plumbing and the rest of the system isn't in that good a shape either so I ended up replacing the entire waste system. Up side... all fixed and won't need replacing again for quite some time. Down side, I probably negated the last two weeks of therapy on my back getting it done. Don't see myself even starting on the original task list now.
It always seems to work that way, doesn't it?

I hope the back isn't suffering any ill effects.

If you see it 3D you get to have a pair of cool 3D glasses!!
Those are awesome!! I've pretty much decided I want to see it in 2D. 3D, to me, still just seems kind of gimmicky. I'd consider revising my thoughts if I'd get to wear those though!

Half days? Lucky.

I work full days through Wednesday, then off the rest of the week.

Dang... that's coming up fast! I need to start getting things ready to go to Florida. All I've done so far is get the oil changed in my truck over the weekend so it is ready to roll.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Working today through Wed and then off until the new year. Too much going on at the day job to take both this and next week off. DS and I had a great time Thursday night - Saturday seeing SWTFA 5 times. Met some nice folks in the different lines waiting to get in and had some nice father / son time hanging for a couple days with just SW talk, appetizer foods in between showtimes and the movie. Again, movie is a WOW from this SW nut. I will be around for a few days but to those that May not check in an eraly Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.

Sorry to hear about the negative experience. Seems like most end up with at least 1 bad coach experience playing youth sports. It's unfortunate as it tends to create a gray cloud over what is mostly good coaches committed to the kids.
To see Star Wars in 3D or Not 3D, that is the question?
Both!
It never stops, even when they are 21.
Amen brother!

Same to you and safe travels if that is involved.

Going to drive up to Louisville for the obligatory parent visit in a few hours and am completely dreading it. I'll be happy when I'm back home tonite.

But of course.
We even watched her choice of movie.
"Scouts Guide to Zombie Apocalypse"

And it was actually hilarious.

Happy Belated birthday to dd.

I'll be here as usual. That may not be good news.

Just don't arrive on the wrong day this time.

What burns me is that volleyball was the game he played because it was fun for him. Not that basketball and soccer aren't fun but volleyball was almost like his sport release. And as a guy that has spent the better part of 30 years coaching volleyball, it irks me to know end to see DS and a few of the other players wanting to give it up because it wasn't fun. Top that off with the fact that this coach was teaching them the wrong things erally got my goat.

You can get tickets???
Um...yeah??? Is it really that hard to get into in some places?

We went to the 6:30 show on a Monday and it was less than half full. Still a pretty big crowd for that particular time, but definitely not hard to get in.

The movie was awesome, by the way!

Happy belated birthday to DD!

I'm sorry to hear that. Amazing how a poor leader can completely ruin the experience. I hope you can treat it as a learning experience--the problem isn't the game, it's the person.

I'm only working half days through Wednesday and not at all the rest of the week.
Well... I wont be working at work after that at least.

Sweet! Hope you get the chance to rest up and keep healing.

No, just prepared.

Good morning. Thinking about taking DS to see Star Wars tonight after work. If not tonight, we'll surely find some time to see it this week.

Cool. We're going to try and see it as a family on Thursday. Hopefully I can avoid spoilers until then.

I've pretty much decided I want to see it in 2D. 3D, to me, still just seems kind of gimmicky.

I still haven't seen a movie where I thought 3D really added to the experience. It doesn't do anything for me.

The movie was awesome, by the way!

That seems to be the word!
