DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Getting hammered with rain this afternoon. It has been so bad the zoo was closed on Friday. They are worried about some of the animals drowning. Another major issue is the moats separating the lions and tigers are flooded. They can now swim across the moats and take a stroll in the public areas. Only in Miami.

We are flying into Fort Lauderdale, arriving at 3 pm, hired a car service to get us to the Intercontinental Miami. We are there until the morning of the 26th.

It would be great to meet you in CJ but don't go out of your way; busy time and having your DD home makes it even tougher.

Intercontinental is a nice place. Hopefully the weather improves.

Love to try Moonlite some day. Not into mutton though.
.

And I'd like to take you there. Preferably a Thursday or Friday as fried catfish is on the buffet. Then, a drive over to the bourbon bar at the Miller House for dessert.

If you could just get some bears in there, you'd have the makings of a terrific motion picture.

:rolleyes2

I think the Packers would be better than the Bears. :lmao:

Count me in, or just send the mutton this way!

Final harvest for the cabbage trial - 4100+ lbs. I'm tired of cutting cabbage. Now it is winter greens production season. Harvested a bunch of mustard greens today.

27 days and counting. :teeth:

MagicBands already shipped, will be here in a day or two.
Costumes for the Dopey Challenge are either in hand or on their way (Slave Leia for the full marathon!)
Bib and corrals released, shocked that I was placed up in J as this is only my third race that's not a 5K :p

Still time to donate to my fundraiser for the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Texas, see link in signature :p

That could be a pretty unique zoo experience.

The whole area around the Intercontinental looks like a pretty nice spot, looking forward to it. We are renting a car on Jan 2 for the day to get from the port to Lauderdale, we'll probably check out a few spots on the way.

Happy Wednesday. Guess what day it is? That's right - tennis tonite.

C'mon over. Moonlite has enough food for all three of us. Question - what do you do with all the food you harvest? You're growing as a part of research, right?

Are you wearing an actual Slave Leia costume? :scared1:

Or, is it just a t-shirt of the slave costume? That is still scary,, but not as scary as the other.

Oh, minor detail. Everybody knows cats don't like water anyway. They won't swim across! :rolleyes1

Not the bears though (oh well). Tonight's news reported a robber jumped in a lake here to elude police and was eaten by an alligator.
I saw this. And I laughed.

I feel sorry for the alligator... I saw that it was euthanized. That's no way to treat a law enforcement gator!!!

Nice day today, the sun came out and only intermittent downpours. Spent the morning finishing Christmas shopping and I am done! Actually spent less than what was budged. The big gift, a new regulator was on sale and $$$ off. Couple of little stocking stuffers to pick up but I will do that as it comes. I guess the tree is up next tomorrow.

Sounds like a great day, getting in the car now. The only problem I see is we would need a designated driver.

You are pretty much in the middle of things. Lots of things to do, including South Beach. You could always visit the topless optional beach but it might not go over too well with the family.

LOL, we actually did a tour of St Maarten a few years ago and it included a 2 hour stop at Orient Beach. They drop you off right at the dividing line between the nude and non-nude portions of the beach. Of course all the men had to check out the nude portion so we walked to the end and back (we stayed in our suits). DS Was 9 at the time and did see some interesting things as the nudist did stroll over to the other side. They all covered up but I think he is still scared by the very old gentleman walking by in the thong.

Afternoon all...
I get to leave work early today... by nearly 15 minutes... To go for more physical therapy... Oh joy...

Costumes for the Dopey Challenge are either in hand or on their way (Slave Leia for the full marathon!)
So, ummmm...
Will that be you in the brass bikini or perhaps your DW?
It would be an interesting sight either way...
but what kind of interesting would depend on the answer to that last question there.

Good luck on the run is either case.
Oh, and enjoy being at Disney.

Happy Wednesday. Guess what day it is? That's right - tennis tonite.
So Wednesday have transitioned from "hump" to "tennis"...
Does that also mean that Thursday has now transitioned from "Throw Back" to "Stove Up"?

Who am I kidding; I only wish I was as active as you are.

Oh, minor detail. Everybody knows cats don't like water anyway. They won't swim across! :rolleyes1
Cats no...
Tigers, on the other hand, like the water.
I'd be a mite worried if I was near that zoo.

I feel sorry for the alligator... I saw that it was euthanized. That's no way to treat a law enforcement gator!!!
Ok, the gator eating the crook just made me shake my head.
This, however, got me to laughing.

Spent the morning finishing Christmas shopping and I am done!
Lu-key...
We never seem to get finished with the gift purchases.
They tend to last even beyond the holidays

The only problem I see is we would need a designated driver.
More like a certainty than a potential problem, I'd say.

 I'd be disturbed by such.
A nine year old may well need a bit of therapy afterward.

Not the bears though (oh well). Tonight's news reported a robber jumped in a lake here to elude police and was eaten by an alligator. Sure you want to come down here Darcy?

I feel sorry for the alligator... I saw that it was euthanized. That's no way to treat a law enforcement gator!!

I laughed too. One less crook to house at taxpayers expense. :rolleyes1:

Also mentioned it to a coworker and we were both in agreement that you shouldn't kill a gator cop.

The big gift, a new regulator was on sale and $$$ off.

Nice. Buy me one too?

In a related note... the Indianapolis Zoo had a cheetah escape a couple of months ago. My wife's cousin is a zookeeper with the elephants which are located right next to the cheetah enclosure and he was working that day. He said it was an exciting day at work.

I'm glad I'm not alone on this. The way I see it the gator was doing a service to the community. And I know there's that whole concept of "now he has an appetite for human flesh" that concerns some. But let's be real here. If you go diving into a pond/lake/swamp in Florida in the middle of the night, you know what you're getting into.

... Question - what do you do with all the food you harvest? You're growing as a part of research, right?
...

We had to cut up some of it to get measurements but the majority of it went to the local food pantry and what they couldn't use got composted.

...I feel sorry for the alligator... I saw that it was euthanized. That's no way to treat a law enforcement gator!!!

Too bad for the gator and the Perp's family. He (the burglar) was old enough to know better. I don't have great hopes for this country. Between idiots like him and the self-absorbed whiners on the various college campuses I don't see many that have the cajones to storm Normandy beach.

...We never seem to get finished with the gift purchases.
They tend to last even beyond the holidays...

Yep. Sounds like home.

Yeah, the doctor said I am healthy under all the fat. I think they thought I cheated on my blood test like Ryan Braun. :lmao:
