Glad to they caught it. How much hassle do you have to thru? New card it?
Getting the card locked and a new one issued hasnt been too difficult the times Ive had to do it. I think I caught something wrong twice and the bank caught it the other three times. If they see something that doesnt fit normal patterns or is an onsite purchase more than about 200 miles away from the billing address they will hold the sale and send me an email asking if its legit. If I respond no then they lock the account and wait for me to call their fraud center.
I called them about an hour after the purchase late last night. They verified my identity by asking for the usual personal details plus a few questions a hacker is unlikely to know (like: knowing the make/model of a vehicle I sold off years ago or the county in which one of my former residences resides) . When they believe its actually me then they go over the recent charges and strike the ones that I verify are wrong. Then they open a new account, transfer the history and any accumulated rewards and have new cards stamped and shipped UPS rush. I was on the phone with them for less than an hour and should have new cards tomorrow by about noon. After that though you have to go out to every place where you use the old card to update that info and change the passwords (if youre smart). That step takes a lot more time to work through every utility, service or vendor that may have the old number on record.
