DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning guys, Just got the call that school is cancelled for today. Naturally the call woke one of the kids. Looks like it'll be a Disney marathon today. To Randall and the rest of the convention dads: YOU SUCK!!!

Can you feel the love today...

Morning guys! Missing the DDCC3 this week stinks, but on the bright side, I'm only 3 weeks away from our next trip down... :thumbsup2

Have fun down there guys!

It's cold here too! Not sure we brought enough warm clothes.

Another day in the deep freeze!!

DW's school is still closed while they try to repair the damage from the broken flood. Estimates from the library loss is over 1000 books and 12 computers. Thankfully they have been getting donations from all over North America. :thumbsup2

The rumour is that some of the floor tiles they pulled up were asbestos tiles. If that is the case, they may be closed for awhile.

Morning guys. Newsflash: It is really cold outside.

Norm, as long as no family lawyers have been contacted, you're doing good in my book.

No lawyers called. This is a routine issue. I just don't get it because they her family treat her terribly. They give money, vacations, & cars to her brother, but if anyone needs anything, they call her and she does it. I've made that same comment to her - if there is this much drama, then it isn't much of a vacation.

We used to do family vacations together at times. Someone, usually my brother, would blow up. We would just laugh and open another beer. He would eventually have a cold one and start laughing with us. Feel for you Norm and anyone else that has to deal with family drama that doesn't end in humor.

That's how I survive holidays - drink heavily.

Morning. It's sub zero with the wind chill and will only be a balmy 3 degrees as a high.

For all of you in Florida, from the bottom of my heart........I hate you , lol.

Don't be a hater. Eventually, you will be in Florida and you don't want everyone hating you. Still jealous though.

I am so over living up North. When I moved to NYC winters were fun at first. Then after falling on my a$$ on the ice and dealing with no sun and brutal cold, I said no more. It is supposed to be in the 30's tonight in Orlando which I am not looking forward to but the good news is it is warming up soon afterward. Stay safe guys.

I like being able to experience all 4 seasons. However, I still would like it better if winter lasted about a week or so.

It's cold here too! Not sure we brought enough warm clothes.

::yes::

Top O the Morning Dads! From the redundant department of redundancy it is just too dang cold - enough already Elsa.

I really do hope that all the folks at DDC3 have a great time but with coming back from DaWorld just last week and dealing with the "want by DIS trip back" and this cold I must agree with my esteem colleges from the north.

We were there last week and Disney has the blankets, portable jacket racks and sweatshirts a plenty so you should be just fine. Not much sympathy after seeing you and Terry in t-shirts drinking cold beer in the pics you posted.

Speaking of cold weather, when we were down at WDW right after thanksgiving, we were talking to the girl at the check in desk at SSR and she was mentioning how chilly it was the last few days, like in the 60s OMG. We informed her that we left NJ at 0130 hrs and it was 21 degrees with five inches of snow on the ground, so please don't tell us it's chilly down here. Looking at zero here tonight in bloody North Jersey, that's nuts. Last night, with the wood stove cranked up it was 77 in the family room and 14 outside. Was surprised that when i opened the slider to go out and bring in some more firewood, i didn't have a thunderstorm form in the doorway. I still think the Canadians need to be a whole lot less genorous with this cold air nonsense.

Oldest dd getting braces as I type. Say goodbye to $5K. And, on the vacation front, outlaws are warring again over including Sea World into the vacation.

Invisaligns for both kids. DS is complete and paid off, DD is about 50% through and mostly paid. Got a discount for the second one. It was a little over $5K each and glad it's almost over. They do have very nice teeth though.:lmao::lmao:

I say include it if they don't and exclude it if they do.:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Ever since high school, Mondays were the days all the guys got together. Most of us still do it. It usually consists of cards, beer, MNF, or outdoor activity when it is light out.

:scratchin I bet I could drive that on a Monday? What time do we start next week?

We don't get as much snow as you'd think. But what we get tends to stay for months. Also, supposedly its hard for it to snow when its this cold because there's so little moisture in the air. Shows what the weather people know.

I always wondered how true that was. People say it all the time. "it's too cold to snow". My response was always, "then why are Alaska, the Arctic and Antarctica all covered in snow?" No one really answers after that.

Stay warm. Two more cold days here and then back into the 30's.

I called Disney Parks Merchandise today and was chatting with a lovely CM about our weather in Pittsburgh and she made the comment about tomorrow being really cold at WDW. She said it was supposed to get into the 40s overnight.

Given the choice, I'd take WDW and 40's over the 20's and several inches of snow. I've experienced the chilly weather in FL and it's not fun, but I'd take it right now!

Me too! We were there the first week of December several years ago and it was in the 30's for a couple of nights. 30's in FL beats negative wind chills every time.

It usually only lasts a day or two down there. Once again we must ask that all Canadians please close the door as it's getting cold down here. You think they would have learned by now.:sad2::sad2:

No dental plan. It came from the Disney vacation fund". :scared1:

BIL plans to spend 5 days at Universal/Islands of Adventure. Even though I've never been, I don't think I want to return 5 days in a row. My DW is not into coasters, and one of his own kids isn't tall enough to ride most the rides. I'm thinking he's thinking he has a free baby-sitter.

We had a $1,500 ortho plan on our dental so we got a little break. Still expensive though. Our Orthodontist had a payment plan where we could pay over the time the kids were planned to have the braces in. Kind of takes the sting out of writing one big check, but it ends up being almost like a car payment for a couple of years.

5 days at Universal/IOA would not be possible for us. We went for 2 days a few years back and that was more than enough. My kids are not big coaster/ride fans so we ran out of things to do pretty quickly. One day for HP, one for the rest and we were done. I could stay at the resort for a day or two depending on what the offered, but not 5 park days. Continued prayers that the extraction team is not needed.

Like many families, there is an ample amount of craziness on all sides in mine. We did take my MIL a few years ago and it wasn't bad. However, we planned on taking my SIL and her family and we were being debated on things every step of the way regarding the meal plan and room accommodations.

At that point I would have just planned separately and met up whenever it was convenient. We did that with DW family. The plans changed so often and things were argued to death. I basically booked our preferences for the week and we just met up when they finally managed to roll out of bed, eat breakfast at the rented house and find there way to the park. They would typically show up between 11AM and 12:30PM, then eat lunch and finally decide to argue about what to ride. We had already been in the park for 3 hours, rode the "must do's" for us and had a nice relaxing fun morning. That made it easier to deal with the anarchy that followed.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

When going with my family, we typically do a few meet ups, eat meals together and plan some resort time to relax. The rest is "every man for himself" strategy.:thumbsup2

I already withdrew my request for Busch Gardens, as I didn't realize it was so far away. So, I figured a 4 or 5 day pass would mean 1 each day (Universal, IoA, & Sea World), and then double up 1 or 2 depending on the length of pass. The level of selfishness is so amazing.

Even better if you could experience snow without the cold or driving conditions, fall without raking leaves, spring without excessive allergens, or summer without extreme heat. Where is that place?

DW thought we "needed" to buy Disney sweatshirts for the children on one of those park night visits in the 60s. :lmao:
I didn't object to another Disney souvenir.

.

Thanks. Dr didn't mention, but I'll inquire. Oldest dd has had palate expander, is missing teeth, and has some growing in the opposite way. Plus, her overbite was too much so the braces are only on the top teeth until clearance.

This is the same Dr that did DW's orthodontics as a child. He may be old school, but she can still wear her same retainer from ?? years ago.

I ended up buying sweatshirts for our group one night as the wind picked up and those that can go from cooking to freezing in a nano second (DW) left their new Christmas hoodies in the room so we got some souvenirs as well.

Feel your pain on the braces as both our kids had 'em. What a steady line of business / racket as I cannot think of many kids we knew through the years that did not have braces.

Only good thing I can say about my teeth is I didn't need braces. I'm an old hat at root canals and crowns now. I found out my employer has a dentist on site and only charges a fraction of what other places do. I know where I'm going from now on. The do vision too and a coworker got designer frames with the polarizing lenses for $150. Which is good cause my prescription sun glasses are shot.

The dentist does vision too? I don't know how much I'd trust that. I mean, sure the eyes and the teeth are only a few inches apart, but they seem like disparate systems to me.

Morning guys,

To Randall and the rest of the convention dads: YOU SUCK!!!

I'd like to echo these sentiments as well.
:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:
nothing but love for you guys just filled with envy at the moment.

Yep, your approach was perfect.

Yeah that's the route I was going to go. We had done 2 trips together previously that were mostly peaceful. Our girls are cousins and best buds so it had worked out really well. Most of the issues with those trips were with my selfish BIL, who frequently overlooked that the age of the children were 2, 5, 6 and 9.

The challenges happened after we joined DVC and were trying to stay together. There were some financial hurdles and things like the DDP were coming into play b\c everyone on the reservation had to get or no one got it. So they wanted to have this kids on this room but stay in this other room nonsense. That's how we ended up just getting a 2BR at BLT and taking MIL. I love my DW's family but in certain situations you just need to cut your losses.

I can imagine, I always feel like you really find out how people are when traveling with them. We have really good friends that we have just learned we can't travel with.

It's morning
It's cold
The heat is on what seems like non stop
Elsa needs to get over herself
