DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning/afternoon from England chaps.... Only 4 hours to go in the work week over here, then all weekend building a climbing frame. Good news is off the Disneyland Paris at the end of next week, and then the countdown to Florida begins. Soccer season finished last week, so I now have a backlog of jobs from DW to get through...

First post here. Just figured I would drop in and say hi. Here's to hoping some of you are at WDW this weekend and having fun for the rest of us...

Chilling out before I take her to Springs so I downloaded some pics. A few more from Seton Hall...

A graduation present from dad, her first lab coat

You mean another graduatin present after her tuition? :lmao:

Keep the proud dad parent pictures rolling in. She is a remarkable young woman.

No. No. No. You misunderstood. Norm takes care of the dividing. Just send him the full amount.

Generally I would agree, but granddad drinks Pinch, so I am not gonna argue.

If others are buying, then yes, I'm drinking. I just like bourbon over scotch.

Great plan! :thumbsup2

Hard to believe I can't find a yawning smilie. It is interesting the different ways people use to keep pancakes warm until those lazy louts can consume them. Pat puts them on a plate in the microwave and keeps the door shut. I always put them on a plate and keep them wrapped in aluminum foil...........

Food never has the opportunity to get cold in my house. My dds know if they don't eat it, then I likely will.

Greetings from Australia heading to Disneyworld with DD 22 via a road trip out of DFW.Staying at Pop from Sept 24 to 30th
Stayed at Pop in 2008,off property in 2011 and 2014 was hoping for Port Orleans Riverside this time but free dining came up for our dates at Pop paid the diff to get the Dining Plan to get the one Table serve along with with the Quick serve
DD has a friend flying in from Texas so will let them do their thing and meet up during the day/night for our ADR so I will have time to check out some resorts and take some photos etc
Hoping to catch a College Football game some where along the way something with all the atmosphere but without the big price tag some games seem to be asking for

Greetings back. Dues are payable in dole whips, bacon, beer, or cake. You mail 820 portions to me and then I mail out to everyone else.

You are certainly a long way out from WDW. How long is that flight? I would like to travel to Australia to watch the tennis championship one day (similar bucket list for New York, Wimbledon, and Roland Garros). Better yet, play on the different court surfaces. I know it won't happen unless I win the lotto, but it is fun to dream.

Top O the Mornin Dads! under 2 weeks and was still planning / booking dining & FP+ yesterday - the horror! Was not due to poor planning on my part rather Disney opening up dining packages and FP+ for Jungle Book Alive with Magic show at AK and bringing back the oriiginal Soarn for a short run until the new one starts June 17. I have to say that I have never had a more PITA experience with Disney booking. Logged in at midnight eastern and no FP+ listings for either event and no dining times available, for any date ever, at Tusker House or Tiffins (has anyone seen the menu for this place? what are they thinking?). So I get up at 6:00 a.m. my time to call dining, over an hour wait, website still has nothing and MDE app has nothing. Long story short, after booking and re-booking dining and deleting and reloading apps to get new FP+ options available I did get dining package for JB at TH and did get Soarn FP+. Dining reservations are now:
 1. The BOATHOUSE - Dinner
 2. The Plaza Restaurant -Dinner
 3. Wishes Fireworks Dessert Party
 4. Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano Fantasmic - Diner Pkg
 5. Tusker House - Breakfast
 6. Symphony in the Stars: SW Fireworks Dessert Party
 7. Le Cellier Steakhouse - Dinner
 8. Cinderella's Royal Table - Breakfast (DS can't remember what inside of Castle looks like and have not been able to get this for years so what the heck)
 9. Tusker House - Dinner Jungle Book Show pkg

Good morning from rainy Savannah. Had a late start getting out of New Jersey and stopped off at Williamsburg late two nights ago. Spent a couple of hours in the morning at Colonial Williamsburg. Changed a lot since the last time we were there. Everything is funneled to a big visitors center. (Would have let you know we were there Don but we were only there that night and a few hours in the morning). Rained all the way down here. What a pain.

After leaving Sister-in-law early tomorrow morning, we hit Orlando next. One night off site then three days at the Poly. Nothing planned and we won't have tickets. Guess it is just eating and relaxing.
Enjoy the Dad Daughter time and safe travels. Hanging at Poly with a view of Wishes each night sounds nice and relaxing - enjoy.
Happy Friday Guys! A quiet weekend for the most part. Hoping to get a few minutes to say hi to Darcy and Declan this weekend. DD has a hoop tourney as well.

DS High school team won 5-2 yesterday. DS had the game winning RBI (2 actually) and made a great play in the 7th to end it. Just signed him up for 4 day a week physical training all summer. He has lost almost 10 pounds over the last couple of weeks and is really committed to getting into shape and getting to that next level in sports. We'll see how it goes.
Enjoy the meet up with the boys. Good stuff with DS and best of luck to him with the summer training.
Good evening all. On our way to WDW now. Drove through 5 states today. Stopping north of Atanta for the night. Stoked to arrive in Orlando tomorrow!!!
Safe travels my friend and keep the place warm for us.
Better with bourbon.
Isn't everything? Anyone heard of / had bacon infused bourbon? Had waiter at our favorite steak place told me if I ever get the chance to have a bacon bourbon manhattan to not pass it up.

Dodged a bullet last night... sort of.
Worked the evening shift with my new trainee. Manager comes in and says the midnight shift just phoned in sick. Called everyone we could to come in... no takers. Looks like I'll be stuck here all night. But then I got the idea to call the day shift. "Hey! How tied are you to your day shift? Want to work the mid instead?" Dude said yes! Of course that left a hole in the day shift.

Guess who's working 16 hours today, now?
Still, better than having to stay for the night.

Afternoon all. Played tennis this AM and then a lesson for my younger dd. She seems to be doing well thus far. I'm hoping that between paid lessons and my substandard coaching, she'll be ready for a tournament in August.

When I first read that second sentence, I thought you were going to tell us how DD did something bad/wrong and learned a lesson.
"She learned a lesson. Didn't shoulder check. Now she has to pay to get the car fixed."

Can you make the trainee do all your work? That is a great plan. :lmao:

I wish!
Later on, yes. But now? Way more extra work.
Instead of just doing something automatically, I have to go through it slowly, explaining why and how as I go.

Ah well, it's a process.
Doesn't hurt that she's willing to learn.

I did pancakes for my family this AM as well.

They say great minds think alike.

No idea why we thought the same.

Splitting one dole whip into 818 portions as we speak. Hopefully it'll be OK on the journey from London.

:lmao:

Good evening all. On our way to WDW now. Drove through 5 states today. Stopping north of Atanta for the night. Stoked to arrive in Orlando tomorrow!!!

Have a good trip!

They all recently graduated from college and I imagine there will be some celebrating tonight.

Absolutely. Probably a rousing round or two of canasta, right?

Hopefully some pics tomorrow.

Sweet!

A graduation present from dad, her first lab coat

Clever. And every time she wears it, she'll think of you. I like it.

Their bedroom after clean out. Not a 5 star resort

4.5 stars?

Can you guess it was moving day

It's very subtle... but... maybe.

Her shark bits

And more of her samples

What cracks me up is the labeling.
Dolphin... whatever. Lobster.... yawn. Misc prey... dullsville. Sharks... Sharks! OMG! SHARKS!

Views of the campus from there

Pretty.

It is interesting the different ways people use to keep pancakes warm until those lazy louts can consume them. Pat puts them on a plate in the microwave and keeps the door shut. I always put them on a plate and keep them wrapped in aluminum foil...........

That is interesting.
I was wondering if they'd be dried out if they slept too late.

Then I realized.... I didn't care.
Sleep in (while I'm working out in the heat) and suffer the consequences!

Greetings from Australia

:welcome: to the club!
Our illustrious leader will be along shortly with the official welcome.

Maybe "illustrious leader" is a bit much.
Our leader will....

uh..

some dude'll give you your number.

ETA I see he did while I was typing this!

heading to Disneyworld with DD 22 via a road trip out of DFW.

Because a road trip out of OZ would involve a lot of breath holding as you cross the Pacific.

Stayed at Pop in 2008,off property in 2011 and 2014 was hoping for Port Orleans Riverside this time but free dining came up for our dates at Pop paid the diff to get the Dining Plan to get the one Table serve along with with the Quick serve

Interesting that you got two different plans TS vs QS. Didn't know you could do that on a single reservation.

We have a 15 and half hour flight from Sydney to Dallas Fort Worth one of the longest non stop flights there is.
Staying at Pop we get the free QS plan but could upgrade to next plan up by just paying the difference for about $17 each per person per night and since we plan for some Character Meals and dinners works out better than the room only discount.

Meals included I think at least two maybe three plus snacks, last time they (QANTAS) had self serve snack set up at the rear of the section.

DS graduation with honors this past Friday Night. Pretty proud of the young man he is becoming. Hope all had / are having a good weekend
Many congrats to budamacdvcr jnr and your good self. Pour yourself a large Bourbon, and maybe a cheeky bacon sandwich. With a side of bacon. Just to celebrate.

Never heard if bacon infused bourbon, but will have to try it. We loaded up on park days last trip and skipped boathouse. Some good choices and good get on that Tusker House package. I haven't looked at the Tiffin's menu but will check it out.

.

Day shift is better than night shift, so good get. I'm not sure what to call it with dd since she is still learning. But, I can't call it playing since I just stand there and hit balls out of the hopper to her.

DS graduation with honors this past Friday Night. Pretty proud of the young man he is becoming. Hope all had / are having a good weekend

Congrats to ds. It's official as you now have pictures. Soon, you will have an empty house and can celebrate. Just no naked room pictures. :scared1:

That is a long flight. But, we are about the same amount of time in the car driving to WDW.

Worked out at Planet Fitness, tennis with dd, pit crew with race car, Mass, dinner at Maloney's - pizza & draft beer.

WP_20160522_001.jpg

Well, not much of a pit crew. MIL's boyfriend needed someone to help with new race car so I helped him as much as possible.

Here at the Poly. Norma Jean (yes, it is true) checked me in. She was great. Efficient, personable and she moved my room to Tokelau per my request because it is closer to the Great Ceremonial House. A few pics...

Nice room, the cabinet thing is a single bed that pulls down so the room sleeps five.

Split bathrooms, john and the tub in one, a shower and another sink in another

Outside

The replacement of the Neverland Club the kid first visited when she was about three. Imagine she will be chaining herself to the sign demanding they bring back Peter Pan's place. It was really cool then. The kids enter the club through a door or could slide down out the window. Imagine the lawyers nixed that. They also had a sculpture of the crock that the kids would climb all over. Have to find some of the old pics of the place.

Of course I went here. Any guesses?

ALL IS WELL!

All in all a good day. Checked out of the HI, got a room in the building I wanted and we moved in around 11:00. Like the layout and location is prime. Had lunch, made it to Publix for some supplies, did a weeks worth of laundry from all the traveling, spent some time at the pool and the pool bar, and ended up at one of my favorite watering holes. I say I won today.

Stupid lawyers.

Oh... there might be some on here.
Just in case, this is for them... <pppbbbbtttt!!!>

A nice refreshing glass of water, right?

I say I won today.

::yes::

Sounds like a pretty great day. I only went to the Poly once to eat at 'Ohana, so I'm not familiar enough with the resort to picture where everything is, but the room looks great. I've never been able to stay at a deluxe (yet...hopefully one day) but if I get the chance, it would be a hard choice between the Poly or Wilderness Lodge for me.

Welcome to the new guys! Good to see more international representation here.

Cool idea! Congrats again to the Pirate Princess.

You're the only guy I know who looks at a 16-hour workday as good news.

Congratulations to DS!

That sounds good. I've always heard good things about Qantas.

Nice room, the cabinet thing is a single bed that pulls down so the room sleeps five.

I liked those rooms a lot. What little time I spent in it, anyway.

Two days off? What did you do, build an addition to the house?

Happy travels. When are you hitting Florida?

Good meeting you too Andy.

Congrats.

Glad to hear your travels are still going well! No worries on the missed notification, it was definitely a quick stop for you. This rain could really take a break now! lol

Well, not much of a pit crew. MIL's boyfriend needed someone to help with new race car so I helped him as much as possible.

Cool! That reminds me of a conversation I had with DD the other day. Not sure what brought it about, but she turns to me and says:
DD: "Dad, I'm really sad that Disney World tore down the speedway".
Me: "Why do you say that?"
DD: "Cause I REALLY wanted to drive fast there."
Me: "Me, too. Me, too"
:lmao:
So, I naturally went and bought some more race tickets for the local gocart place. I feel the need... the need for speed! :rotfl2:

Hope your back feels better!
I say I won today.
I agree. "Winning" :) Very jealous. Enjoy your time! Kicking back and relaxing at the resorts/bars are some of my favorite things.

Meanwhile, on this side of the world, many people won't start having vacations or long weekends for another month, at least. As for me, I have a few weeks of school left (teacher--not done with our schoolyear until late June). Kids have started mentally checking out, which can be a challenge. A Dole whip, ride on Space Mountain, followed by a dip in the resort pool/lounging in a pool chair sounds about right.

It's another year until our WDW vacation. Takes about years between our visits while the kids are small. Just too many bills and other considerations. But we will be visiting family in Missouri, and that means we will be taking a trip to the Disney museum in Marceline. Hoping they have some outdoor movies in July so we can make an afternoon/evening of it. That will be our Disney pilgrimage this summer! Any fellow nerds in here that know if anything special when considering a trek to Marceline? I know only of the Disney farm/reconstructed barn and the museum. Anything else?

Otherwise, it's fun to live vicariously through others. Any trip photos people feel like posting are great in somehow helping the rest of us feel like we are back already. Skål!
