DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Happy Thursday. Played tennis last night for first time without heel supports in over 6 months. Sore this AM, but hopeful I am finally turning the corner with this stuff.

And, our little city is buzzing as this week is the city/ county swim meet. This one is more important than state championships (in their minds). Oldest dd is swimming fly in relay, 100 fly, and 500 free. Yeah, that 500 yards is about 1/3 mile. :scared1:

And in other things I never expected to say in the Disdads thread...

Good luck in the quest for Little Mermaid running shoes!

Nothing really surprises me here anymore.

Good luck on your mermaid pursuit.
. May the odds be ever in your favor.
.
You're mixing movie memes. YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!

'Morning all...
From the bits and pieces I found over on FB, it sounds like the DDCC is off to a finely inebriated start.
Nice work guys.

Mixed bag of a day yesterday. Results from the EMG are that something is definitely a bit out of kilter. Likely a bruise to the spinal cord in the area between the "C5 and T1" vertebra. To figure it out more specifically without doing anything invasive (a plan that I certainly favor) will take an MRI. Currently waiting on insurance to approve that so it may be a bit yet before I get any better information much less a possible course of action.

Not the best of results, but...
For the first time in nearly a decade I got a cost-of-living adjustment out of my employer, so that put a much better shine on the day.

The electric shock sounds about as fun as a meeting.
The shocks were certainly jarring, but it was actually the needle sticks that got very tiring very quickly. Especially the ones in the hands and back of the neck. Don't know that I've ever set in on any thing close to being a "fun" meeting that was work related so I'd agree that the tests were only just a mite worse then the typical business meeting.

I may be able to make DDCC 11 after I ship youngest off to college. Otherwise, it will be closer to DDCC 15.
The money is certainly an issue, but the timing of it during our year-end financial processioning schedule will keep me from taking part for quite some time.

The quest for the Little Mermaid running shoes special to this year's marathon has begun.
The quest for shoes, huh...
I did not know that this was a thing.

Well good luck in scoring some of that elusive foot wear.

System will keep your design on your magic band until you design another one.
Interesting...
I haven't been in the parks since just before the bands became the Way of the World, so I'm unaware of all the ins and outs of them. What else besides Tickets, FPs, ADRs and TT designs are they storing on those bands? I hope to get back on property some time in the near, so I best start figuring out how those critter work.

Not bad as at least the doc has a bit of a plan of attack and COLA always helps.
The money is certainly an issue, but the timing of it during our year-end financial processioning schedule will keep me from taking part for quite some time.
I'm in the same boat - timing just sucks. That's why we need to think about a fall DDCC (or however many C's Randall and CJ decide on) at some point during Food & Wine. I know the guys would need to keep the current time frame for tradition sakes but maybe one year do something like a DDCC6.5 or 7.5 between the historical events.

Sorry for the less than stellar news from the docs. Hopefully insurance doesn't string you along and approves it so you can get some answers.

Congrats on the cost of living adjustment. Did they adjust for all the years they skipped or just this one?

Good! Been a bit of a long haul, there.

Yeah, that 500 yards is about 1/3 mile. :scared1:

Big deal. 500 yards. I could do that in my sleep.
I can easily swim 500 yards.
And when I say "swim" I mean in a floating recliner with a drink in one hand and a book in the other.
But it is in the water, so practically the same thing, right?

Likely a bruise to the spinal cord in the area between the "C5 and T1" vertebra.

Bruise sounds to me like "It will heal eventually". So I'd consider that good news.
But considering I know zilch about spine injuries, I could also be completely wrong.

No kidding!

Nice. Spend it wisely. On Disney trips would be my suggestion.

Excellent...
Healing (as opposed to "heeling") is always a good thing.
Just watch that all that exercise doesn't aggravate things again.

Good luck to DD for the swim competition. That's far more work than I'd be putting into my time in a pool.
I'm more jellyfish than sailfish... floating along suites me just fine.

I'd approve of a fall edition. Still have to scrounge up the bucks, but if it were during the later weeks of a month right after school starts back up, I might be able to actually get there.

Congrats on the cost of living adjustment. Did they adjust for all the years they skipped or just this one?
Mathematically, it covered about 2 years or so. Better than one, but not enough to cover the losses from all nine.
(nor does it include additional compensation for the additional responsibilities I took on from five other folks as each of them left the fold, not to be replaced).

Still better than a sharp stick in the eye though, right?

Hope so, but nerve cells are a bit quirky.
I basically asked him the question of eventual healing specifically.
He didn't say yes or no directly, but rather: "well, the more 'normal' the MRI is, the better."
We'll see.

Nice. Spend it wisely. On Disney trips would be my suggestion.
I like the suggestion, to be sure.
But the "wisely" bit of it means that tuition payments may well win out.

Actually, when I was informed about the change, my response was
"WCU thanks you, very much."

I don't have a year end work issue, but the time of year matters as that is school time. If we did Fall, then i am limited to October Fall Break. I think this was the reasoning Aaron went with January, as there were already several dads already running in the runDisney event. David and I decided to expand the DDCPicnic in the summer, however, we still couldn't get all local KY & IN dads together because of schedules. I'll share that date with you this year. It won't be Disney, but you'll get to see me. :lmao:

I don't the timer goes that high. :lmao:
I think she's in the 7 minute range, but needs to go into the 6 minute range to make state time cuts.

Thanks. And, congrats on the raise. I didn't get a COLA, but did get an increase in health insurance costs. I doubt it covers electric shocks or a sharp stick.

Gentlemen, the time has come! As soon as I shut off my computer, I'm out the door and headed south. I hope to meet a few of you Friday night. For those of you who can't make it, I'll drink one for you.

Ditto!

psst: it's DDCC4...

After you pass age 50 it all runs together so if I got the right letters and some numbers in there I think I was close enough.

Missed our launch window by a half an hour. Woke at six and got on the road at 6:30. The drive up was terrible. Rain from Miami to Ft. Pierce where we had breakfast at the Cracker Barrel. It let up a little but soon became pretty steady all the way to WDW. Got her race packet and after lollygagging we made it to Epcot in time for our 2:20 FP to SE. Crowds were not bad but it was cold, windy and rainy. At TT, she designed the highest efficient car of the day. Scored a total of 211 and the high score of the day was 224. Not a bad engineer. ...

Well done Crash! It is important to design a good car if you are prone to wrecking them.

Glad they are making some progress on your issues. Continued prayers. And Congratulations on the COLA it is definitely better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Hope I can make the picnic this year. A lot just depends on research issues and having to travel north to the parents and in-laws more frequently.

Safe Travels.

I won't comment on a fall version of the DDC as it will be DDC 20+ until the money issues and life issues settle down for me should I make it so long.

Timer, schmimer. Gimme another drink.

How close to that 6 minute range is she?

7:07.47 was her last time. The 17 year old senior, and one of the best swimmers in the Region, is 5:56.68. The others in the event are 6 & 7 minutes.

The top swimmer is a full minute ahead of everyone????
Holy smokes!

Sooo tired, sooo, sooo tired. Exhausted over the last couple of days. Will respond to you nimrods later. Two things, Norm, good luck to your DD at the meet, Rob, hoping for a speedy recovery.

MK today and a word of advice, DO NOT EAT THE SHRIMP PLATTER AT COLUMBIA HARBOR HOUSE. Rubbery and tasteless. The kid got up before 6:00 and was allowed to buy her shoes at 9:30, then we did some stuff at the MK. Dropped her off at the Expo where she bought said shoes. Met Ariel and she fawned over said shoes that she woke us both up before at 6:00 so she was allowed the privilege of buying the aforementioned shoes.

Had dinner with Tim and Angie Hicks at the Wave tonight. Good people. After dinner we went to the DVC Top of the World Lounge at Bay Lake Towers to view the fireworks. Nice evening.

Sun came out around 2:30 and it felt like I was in Florida. Going to bed now, if I don't make it, the floor will do.

One last thing, Randall is a LIAR!

TGIF Gents!

Looks like the Convention is off to a rollicking start, thanks for the pictures guys.

Good luck to your DD this weekend Norm. We are back at the basketball thing, DS has 3 games but they are all in town.

Morning folks. Looks like things are off to a good start around here.
