DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Apparently we were part of double outage...whatever that means.
Not just out... but really out.
Oh sure, there were things I could have done around the house, but what kind of husband would I be if I got it all done in one weekend? I mean, I have a reputation to uphold here.
The perks of working in inventory. I'm going to be continuing the tossing of scrapped inventory today, so we'll see what else I can bring home.
Nice score.
I remember as a kid in the 70's Bigfoot was everywhere. I think that's why I didn't like going camping, I though Bigfoot was around every tree.

Not just out... but really out.

Yep. I suspect that the second outage was supposed to pickup the load if the first one went out...and that didn't happen.

Nice score.

I thought so...the wife? Well...this was how it went this morning:
Me: "Honey! I brought more stuff home from work they were tossing out."
Wife: "Are you becoming like my dad and hording stuff?"
Me: "Me? No, I'm not going to do that. I'll actually use the stuff for something."
Wife: "Ok, like what? How are you going to use it?"
Me: "Uhhhh Not sure."
Wife: "Uh huh."

I guess I'll have to be more selective on what I bring home....but I just can't help it.

You sound like my dad. "I'm going to use that on a project."
He has enough stuff to last him at least 20 years of projects... he's 89.

Morning All, who is having tacos today?

Had a couple of young bucks in my yard on Sunday so I decided to go hunting. I wasn't able to shoot them but I did shoot a couple does.

Thought you guys might find this interesting. With all the restrictions and rules and procedures involved with attempts to mitigate the spread of Covid, ZLC (Salt Lake ARTCC (Air Route Traffic Control Center)) is (was, by the time you see this) sterilizing their airspace from 0730z-0930z (three thirty am Eastern for two hours). No flights are allowed to arrive, depart or transit in an area encompassing approximately 350,000 square miles of US airspace while the building is being covid cleaned. Apparently it's not the first time during the pandemic this has happened either. Just processed a flight from Seattle, WA - Chicago O'Hare, IL that's flight planned up and over the airspace through Canada.

So planes weren't allowed to fly through the airspace because they were cleaning a building? Wow!

I just can't help myself. If I think I can use it, then I'm going to grab it. Does that mean I'm going to use it? Not right away, but some day. :teeth:

Morning All, who is having tacos today?

Not this guy. I have a PB&J for lunch today.

Nice pic, dude.

So planes weren't allowed to fly through the airspace because they were cleaning a building? Wow!

I hope they did a good job.

Man. Is it just me, or does that really seem like overkill?

All this stuff was being thrown out, so it somehow made it into my car.

:lmao:It's funny because we've all done this. Then, 10 years later, we have to clean out the basement or garage and wonder how we accumulated so much crap.

Morning all. Another solo night on the job, this time, pairing me with someone who's been there 1 month, but never worked my machines. So, I trained him. And, I'm still getting training pay and he's not. I almost noped out and walked off the job.

On the good news side, the neuropathy has dissipated, and is only located in one foot in an area of past injury. So, it's the long standing that's causing it. And apparently, you lose a lot more weight on keto when you're not drinking alcohol.

Goals around the EPL were crazy! I was all kinds of excited when I saw ManU gave up 6. Then, on the flip side - Seeing Aston Villa putting 7 on Merseyside Reds?!? ouch.

I will say this, though. I was FIRMLY on the Leicester City bandwagon when they won the league. And, I'm going to bandwagon again this year with AVFC - I think they're back with a vengeance.

Aston Villa and West Ham are the stars of Premier League. Who would have thought that? I had started to pick Chelsea as my team because they had Pulisic, but Dan made me a West Ham fan.

Shift work... I remember when I started, some old fart told me that it might be easy now, but just wait 'til you're older! Yeah, sure old man. Whatever. Now I am that old man... (probably older) and now it's me telling that to the youngun's.

Well, shift work won't start until January. I'll get 10 days off between now and then if I stay.

I kinda don't want to have any cream sauce that you produced...

:lmao:

Oh ghost hunting shows I don't watch anymore, it's more just the paranormal stuff in general. I will admit to be fascinated by Bigfoot. Actually, I think Bigfoot is really a Wookiee from the Star Wars universe that was dropped off and forgotten about. all kidding aside, I am fascinated by Bigfoot. I'm also from Roswell, NM, so for me, anything is possible.

Not sure if I posted this before, but my MIL's boyfriend is a big foot hunter. He's been on one of the shows as an "expert" big foot hunter in this area of KY. He's a nice guy.

Yes, that's interesting.

Hey, Gents! I'm writing this from my house! Being connected to the world via the internet is a wonderful thing. Apparently we were part of double outage...whatever that means. But they have fixed it and we are now connected. I won't lie, not being connected was horrible. Oh sure, there were things I could have done around the house, but what kind of husband would I be if I got it all done in one weekend? I mean, I have a reputation to uphold here. I can't be doing that. :teeth: Kidding aside, I did use the time to get some things done. I worked a bit more on a dresser for the DD, one my wife bought that was falling apart. All it needed was to have the drawers re-glued. I also got some editing done for a couple of photo shoots I did, one Senior portrait and the other one was a I'm-bored-let's-go-do-some-photography kind of shoot. I even re-visited some older shoots I did and have started re-editing some of those pictures. So somethings got done, but not everything on the list. Outside that, everything's going pretty good. Work went well. I started an E&O project (excess and obsolete), well, continued it really. It was my job to take a list of parts that was given to me by the higher ups, scrap it from the system, collect it all and then throw it all away....I started the throwing away part yesterday. Let me tell you, they're throwing away a lot of good stuff...not all of it made it into the trash or scrap pile. I may or may not have brought home a few good choice items. These items may or may not be 4 foam filled hard plastic containers that a lot of people use for guns, I'll be using them for photography equipment, several lengths of chain, several stainless steel shackles, bolts and screws. All this stuff was being thrown out, so it somehow made it into my car. I would have brought home a 50' extension cord but someone got to it before me. I was almost successful in grabbing a reel of 600' double braid polyester rope, but one of the engineers grabbed it to be used on the company's boats. Man, so close. Oh well, next time. The perks of working in inventory. I'm going to be continuing the tossing of scrapped inventory today, so we'll see what else I can bring home.

I'm not one much for projects, because I realize it's just more work for me. But, I'm not remiss to finding good stuff that I can use.

That would be pretty wet
#TWSS

Apparently we were part of double outage...whatever that means.
It means you had an outage at the main server and and outage in your area. Similar to the old phone systems(well old in that few people use a home phone anymore) which had CLECs, Internet providers have what can best be described as network concentrators. Think of a bicycle tire and the spokes going out. At the end of each spoke is another wheel which goes to cities and then more wheels/spokes that go out to neighborhoods. Two of the connecting points to your neighborhood failed.

The perks of working in inventory. I'm going to be continuing the tossing of scrapped inventory today, so we'll see what else I can bring home.
If the tell you to throw out some gold bars or stacks of cash, send 'em my way.

So planes weren't allowed to fly through the airspace because they were cleaning a building? Wow!
Yup. If that building's closed, there's no other place that will have access to the radar coverage for the area. At least not without a lot of work.
Man. Is it just me, or does that really seem like overkill?
Well... I don't know the details, but suspect the virus got into the building. Rather that have the chance of infecting the entire staff and shutting the airspace down for days, a thorough cleaning during the slowest part of the day is preferable.
:lmao:It's funny because we've all done this. Then, 10 years later, we have to clean out the basement or garage and wonder how we accumulated so much crap.
::yes::
It actually takes a certain amount of ruthlessness to look at things and say "I haven't used that in 5-10 years..." and throw it out.
Another solo night on the job, this time, pairing me with someone who's been there 1 month, but never worked my machines. So, I trained him. And, I'm still getting training pay and he's not. I almost noped out and walked off the job.
:sad2: Wow. Wouldn't have blamed you.
On the good news side, the neuropathy has dissipated, and is only located in one foot in an area of past injury. So, it's the long standing that's causing it.
Glad that's resolving. And that you've figured out the root cause.
And apparently, you lose a lot more weight on keto when you're not drinking alcohol.
:rolleyes1
Well, shift work won't start until January. I'll get 10 days off between now and then if I stay.
Thinking that's a big "if".
Not sure if I posted this before, but my MIL's boyfriend is a big foot hunter. He's been on one of the shows as an "expert" big foot hunter in this area of KY.
Really!
How many has he caught so far? How does one serve Big Foot?

Interesting. Thanks for that, Doc.

Oh, I see what you mean. I was struggling to understand why cleaning a building would necessitate closing the airspace above it, but I didn't understand how the radar coverage worked.

It actually takes a certain amount of ruthlessness to look at things and say "I haven't used that in 5-10 years..." and throw it out.

We reach that point every so often. I think we finally gain the ruthlessness due to sheer exasperation. Usually that's when I can't walk around the garage without tripping on something.

Oh, I see what you mean. I was struggling to understand why cleaning a building would necessitate closing the airspace above it, but I didn't understand how the radar coverage worked.
Yup. There's some overlap (there has to be), but that's it.

Exactly!

I've got a few names from my place you can add to that list.
I may or may not have brought home a few good choice items.
I can't read this without Cousin Eddie's voice in my head.
Not just out... but really out.
We would say in the East End "Out out" or "Proper Out", depending on age of the speaker.
I guess I'll have to be more selective on what I bring home....but I just can't help it.

I toyed with using this as a Friday night punchline, but my better judgement took over.
Is it just me, or does that really seem like overkill?
Probably not the greatest phrase to pick when we are talking about a virus, but it does seem somewhat disruptive.
And apparently, you lose a lot more weight on keto when you're not drinking alcohol.
I think that goes if you are on keto or not my friend.
Not sure if I posted this before, but my MIL's boyfriend is a big foot hunter. He's been on one of the shows as an "expert" big foot hunter in this area of KY.
Shut the front door. That's awesome. Is Bigfoot in Kentucky then? I don't really know that much about it, apart from he lived with the Hendersons for a while.
How does one serve Big Foot?
Gotta be low and slow. Maybe over mesquite with some slaw.
I'm sure there's a Star Wars joke in here about him being a little Chewie, but I've got way too much class to go there.
Of course the term "gentleman" only applies to a select few of us, but we all know who those aren't.
I must be, I've been in quite a few Gentleman's Clubs. Otherwise I wouldn't be allowed in, right? Stands to reason.

Have a great day brethren, may you soar over the peak of the week and start to let your wheels down as you glide towards your own individual Fridays. Just don't go through Salt Lake City's allegorical airspace.

Morning guys, welcome to.....
…the first day of the rest of our lives?

Which age group would say which?
Probably not the greatest phrase to pick when we are talking about a virus, but it does seem somewhat disruptive.
Apparently not so much. Traffic levels in Canada are down 85-95 percent. I presume tit's similar in the US and worldwide.
I saw a grand total of one flight that had to reroute. There were most certainly more going south around it, but...
I'm sure there's a Star Wars joke in here about him being a little Chewie, but I've got way too much class to go there.

Logic holds up.

Hey, Gents! Well, we made it to Wednesday and it's a downhill slide from here. Still haven't heard anything regarding the job interview, but I sent an email to the recruiter asking for an email to the SVP I interviewed with so I could sent a follow-up email (not my best, but I had to get something out quickly as it was nearing the end of the third business day). In the email I sent to the recruiter, I not only asked for the contact information, but also thanked the recruiter for his time and efforts (it never hurts to thank them). His response was short, but in it he also said, "I'll be in touch." Now, I'm not reading into that that I got the job, but I'll hear either way...at least that's how I take that. Either way, I do know he liked me and I'm hoping that if things don't go well for this position, he'll remember me for a future opening. That's my thinking, at least. Otherwise, things are going well. Hope everyone has a good day.

Oh I would say something. That's total BS.

On the good news side, the neuropathy has dissipated, and is only located in one foot in an area of past injury. So, it's the long standing that's causing it. And apparently, you lose a lot more weight on keto when you're not drinking alcohol.

Good to hear this is getting better for you.

Not sure if I posted this before, but my MIL's boyfriend is a big foot hunter. He's been on one of the shows as an "expert" big foot hunter in this area of KY. He's a nice guy.

That's pretty cool. I'm sure I've seen him on TV then.

I'm not one much for projects, because I realize it's just more work for me. But, I'm not remiss to finding good stuff that I can use.

I'll admit to not wanting to start projects myself, but I can't help but grab stuff I think I might need later on.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Ain't got a whole lot so congrats, positive thoughts, cheers and hug the family! Have a good one.

Well that pretty much covers all of it. Thanks.

:lmao:

Smoked, hopefully, and dripping in barbeque sauce.

We reach that point every so often. I think we finally gain the ruthlessness due to sheer exasperation. Usually that's when I can't walk around the garage without tripping on something.

Yeah, but it's fun looking for things to put away for future use....even if that is just tripping over in the garage.

I've got a few names from my place you can add to that list.

(Grabs my list and pen) Won't make any promises, but.... :teeth:

I can't read this without Cousin Eddie's voice in my head.

Now that you mention it, neither can I.

I toyed with using this as a Friday night punchline, but my better judgement took over.

Don't let that better judgement get in the way.

Well, we made it to Wednesday and it's a downhill slide from here.
It's my Friday today. Actually, my "weekend" starts in about 30-45 minutes.
Hope the ending is awesome.
But not too soon.
What do you do for work?
My job title is Air Traffic Operations Specialist.
I ensure that air traffic data is correct and also disseminated correctly. I also have numerous other functions ranging from initial search and rescue coordination/initiation to liasing with and assisting pilots in flight planning and airspace reservations.
As little as possible.
:lmao:

Oh...you were asking him.
Never mind.
This too is correct and a much shorter answer. :thumbsup2
I use to work in a Gentleman's Club as a bouncer, does that count? Loved that job. :teeth:
Of course you did. Who doesn't love watching them bounce? ::yes::::yes::
