DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Good luck.
I think there's no way this will be over by summer, but... hoping for you.

RIght now, I'm looking at it like the flu--it seems to have the worst effect on the elderly or those in poor health. The numbers appear to be plateauing in China already, so while it's spread fast that also means it could be burning out quickly too. Those are all reasons for optimism.

On the other hand, my country's response to this has been...shall we say, rather slow. So that's bothersome.

"Huh. That's all? Nothing else?"
"No. Nothing. We unplug it every night, but that's it."

"You... unplug... it... WHY DO YOU UNPLUG IT?"
"To save electricity."

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

But, they leave all the scented air fresheners plugged in so it smells like a vanilla bomb at all times. But, don't worry, the electric air fresheners don't use any electricity.

Made it back from the cruise today. Had a great time with the Chief and Brian as well as the spouses. DW had a bit of news when we got home, the Department of Education announced tonight that any teacher that traveled internationally and hadn't returned to Canada by March 8, couldn't come to school for 14 days. It doesn't count against there sick time and they have to prepare all the lesson plans but stay home. I don't think she's all to happy about the whole thing.

Welcome back, Darcy! Sounds annoying for your DW. This too shall pass.

Morning all,

What happened to the sun and the sand?

Welcome back, Darcy.
Interesting about DW and school. Not happy? But it’s two more weeks of vacation. ;)

I think she would like the two weeks if it wasn't for preparing lesson plans for classes she isn't actually in.

Hello Boys, I'm back... er, did you know I was gone? Anyways, I'm going back to see what hijinks you Dads have been up to.

Pretty sure we're canceling our cruise today or tomorrow. But my mom is in the danger zone. Almost 90 and not very strong. Otherwise, I'd still go.

But.

The thing that would worry me, more than the virus, is the reaction to it. I don't want to get on a cruise ship that is sailing to fun ports of call... only to have it turn around, idle for days, and then have to be quarantined for two weeks.

While not dangerous... it's not what I signed up for either.
What happened to the sun and the sand?
Climb a mountain. Get above the clouds. Bring a sandbox with you.

You're welcome.
I think she would like the two weeks if it wasn't for preparing lesson plans for classes she isn't actually in.
Yeah, I can see that.
Hello Boys, I'm back... er, did you know I was gone?
Back? From where? You went somewhere?

Hello Boys, I'm back... er, did you know I was gone?

Welcome back, Randall! Sure has been quiet on your end recently.

Anyways, I'm going back to see what hijinks you Dads have been up to.

Why?

Pretty sure we're canceling our cruise today or tomorrow. But my mom is in the danger zone. Almost 90 and not very strong. Otherwise, I'd still go.

Dang. I'm sorry to hear that. But with your mom...probably the right call.

Yeah, that would probably be my biggest worry as well. RIght now, with July still a few months away...I think it's best to keep the door open.

and the hysteria continues in KY. Berea is shutting down for the rest of the semester. I wouldn't be impressed if I was a student and only got half my class in. They are an odd bunch there though. Wish my administration would cancel large gatherings and I could save a lot of work and $$$ this summer. Tonight I get to go to a big meeting (400+) and teach a couple of breakout sessions but I won't freak out about it. Bigger concern was the trip home late in the dark and rain but decided to spend the night and avoid that hassle.

It's Tuesday. Nothing exciting here.

Well hello all.

Made it back from the cruise today. Had a great time with the Chief and Brian as well as the spouses. DW had a bit of news when we got home, the Department of Education announced tonight that any teacher that traveled internationally and hadn't returned to Canada by March 8, couldn't come to school for 14 days. Work from home for 14 days. Sounds great.

And I just found out that volunteers are suppose to stay away as well. That's going to make it difficult for me to coach.

Are you doing coaching lesson plans from home?

On the other hand, my country's response to this has been...shall we say, rather slow. So that's bothersome.

What were we supposed to do? Deny readmission to the USA for any citizen abroad until they've been quarantined in Guantanamo Bay for 14 days? Sure, more testing could have been done/ paid for? But, the problem is that people leave their home when sick and spread it around. And, the problem is that employers and schools punish workers and students who stay home when then are sick.

Hello Boys, I'm back... er, did you know I was gone? Anyways, I'm going back to see what hijinks you Dads have been up to.

Of course we knew you were gone. We missed you terribly.

The thing that would worry me, more than the virus, is the reaction to it. I don't want to get on a cruise ship that is sailing to fun ports of call... only to have it turn around, idle for days, and then have to be quarantined for two weeks.

This. ::yes::

The rest of the semester? Do the credits still count? Grades/ degrees still conferred? I'm sure the most significant concern has been handled - ensuring the top administration receive their pay.

Silent, yet deadly?

Done. Cruise canceled.

... happen to us.

Shutting down the rest of the semester? Wow.

KEEP IT OPEN!!! I've waited long enough for you to cross off that 50th state.

Well, yes. There's that, too. It would kill me to cancel now.

We went from "slow" to Guantanamo Bay? That escalated quickly.

Mostly from what I'm reading, we were slow to get ready and have test kits available.

Pull my finger!

Done. Cruise canceled.

I'm sorry. I know that hurt to do.

Another Wednesday.

Actually, yes I am.

I used to do those coaching LPs in the beginning. Now, I know enough drills and timing that I don't prepare them anymore.

Is today Hump Day? Asking for a friend.

For everyone who isn't married.

That came across harsh. Sorry, you have to move at the speed of my brain or lack there of. I don't think we could have done anything to prepare in our current paradigm. In my state, the person who tested positive for corona virus traveled thru the airport (in Louisville) three times in the same week. Two others on a cruise ship, who didn't test positive, were quarantined on a cruise ship. Our response is based on our dependence on other countries in the supply chain.

and the hysteria continues. Our mechanic has to wipe down all the motor pool vehicles rather than silly things like make sure they are safe and run. The maintenance lady is required to spray all door knobs and all common areas twice a day. She said she may have enough Lysol to get us through Friday but she will be out then and none to purchase so it is a good thing this "crisis" will be over by Monday. :sad2:

The rest of the semester? Do the credits still count? Grades/ degrees still conferred? I'm sure the most significant concern has been handled - ensuring the top administration receive their pay.

From what I hear they are just cutting off the last two months of the spring semester. I would be willing to bet there are no refunds involved for any of the expenses though and I am sure Administration will keep their money.

Is today Hump Day? Asking for a friend.
For everyone who isn't married.
Based on my experience that would be an accurate assessment.
