I think in the end it would be close to the same thing. The big difference is that we don't have to worry about paying for a procedure or going bankrupt because of a serious illness.

Dan is always trying to educate us commoners over here across the pond. He has a lot of work to do.

True. I pay OOP for my children's insurance, but I pay nothing for my own. But, I have to pay $6500 before insurance covers anything. So, there are all these plan names and types, but it's all about profits.

Sadly, USA had two routes back in 1965. Go the way of Canada with their medical coverage or create our own with Medicare. Another political example of where we let the wealthy make even more money off the American taxpayer.

But you aren't able to occupy the world with military bases, build a new $1 billion nuclear aircraft carrier once a year, or give tax breaks to the 1% wealthiest of your citizens when you have a $21 trillion national debt and claim to be conservative.

But, let's argue over Kapernick and his million$ and ignore those facts. It's not like this country ever had a revolution over the wealthy exploiting others.

More the privileges of taking the rap for getting caught making ninja throwing stars in shop at school. (One of my best mates from school is my accountant)
Thats a really interesting point. I ran the numbers, as I am waiting for my filler to dry. I converted this to dollars for ease.

Average income in the UK (30k, give or take) - $39,305
Tax take in total (including national insurance) - $6683
The NHS takes 21% of the tax to fund in its current state. Therefore the "insurance" you pay through the tax system that directly goes to fund a completely free healthcare system as an average wage earner is.......

    $1403.

To get to 7 Grand US$ as an contribution through our tax system (based on Rob's number), working the numbers backwards, you would have to earn......

    $104,828.13

    My point exactly...

We are quite good at that, aren't we.

The argument can be made that it was really started by the wealthy over here deciding that they weren't seeing as much of the profits as they might and convincing the rest of the rabble that it was really all about them.

    Sound familiar?

And I certainly don't make anywhere near that.

Afternoon gents and Happy Friday Eve! Bit late getting over here today - too much goin on to wrap up at the workplace before taking a few days of R&R with the missus. For those checking in at the other place, Zerfs seems to be doing a good job prepping the place for our arrival. Have a good rest of the day gents.
I'll second that and nice to have ya back over here :thumbsup2

Been thinking about when seeing that this thing is projected to take a left turn more towards your neck of the woods. Stay safe.

We have our annual air show this weekend. It may be the Blue Angels, or just another show. They bring in propeller planes and jets. They have been practicing today and it sounds like we are under attack.

The city also closes the bridge Saturday so we can walk across the Ohio River on it, and see all the holes on the deck of the bridge. It was quite spooky standing on the bridge and seeing water through a hole in the concrete. So, we have plenty of money for air shows, not pot hole repair or health care.

Now you forgot to include the use federal limit based on # of children in the household. If you fall below that, then you are eligible for Medicaid, free insurance but only on certain conditions. Then, there is medical adjusted gross income which qualifies you for a different government funded insurance. Then there is the free insurance you get at 65, or two years post accident if you are no longer able to work.

Yeah, just setting up one program that provide health insurance for everyone would just be stupid and way too complicated. :furious:

Hey Norm, I'm just a little bit puzzled about your position on this.
Can you please be a little more clear how you feel about this?

Nah. That was a one off.

    :rolleyes1

Huh. I don't know what I find more interesting. The numbers... or the fact you did the numbers.

Oh, cool! I love a good airshow. Been a while since I've been to one.

    Whups.

This is why I can not understand why some people bash Unions :confused3. I am in one I pay nothing into Medical except a small copay, almost nothing for scripts. Not a penny into pension ( you can contribute into a matched 401K if you want), Dental & Eyes are also included. My contract ends late 2023 , I retire early 2024 all depends how next contract goes:confused3. I just can't figure out why a lot of workers are against unions:confused3.I say make the big companies pay and show you are a asset:cool1:.

Morning boys from the other side of the pond. Brainstorming the halloween party today. Let the cultural appropriation begin. Fake moustache and cactii, anyone?

All the best to the Dads on the Eastern seaboard down there in the Carolinas.

It seemed like an interesting thought, and it took me 10 mins, mainly for the conversion into dollars. All part of the service.
He never sits on the fence, our Norm.
Can you write off Medical insurance against tax? If you can't that makes the stretch even wider between State and Private.

I'll be back to call it later, have a good day chaps. London out.

    Morning, gents.

    Nominate Dan for treasurer.
Sounds like he can cook the books pretty well.

Post Disney blues are the worst and when you're on vacation, they just save all the work for you when you get back so it's even worse after you get back.

    'Morning all...
Well, the thing is ashore, but it'll be a bit yet before we see the nastier stuff.
As suspected, it's the folks in the NC Lowlands that are getting swacked.

I do believe that would be a: No.

Now, you can take a deduction for medical spending (excluding insurance premiums)...
but only if the total exceeds 10% of you're combined income.

    Anticipation...
Hopefully things will be a lot nicer by then.

    Naaaa...
All those guys were a whole lot wealthier at the time then any of us ever thought of being.

Right. That’s it. I’m calling it. Work week over. Everyone out. In the River Roost over in Port Orleans for Sazeracs. Last man standing gets to go home with Jenny from the Rocketeer. And let me tell ya, she’s got a lovely set of boosters.

    Have a good weekend chaps.
