DIS Dads DDC XXXIII: Bad Idea Factory!!!

Hi Guys!

Was able to move our trip to WDW up a couple of days and we are flying out in a little over 5 hours. Not taking a computer with us this trip, so won't be able to update anything till I get back on Wednesday. I have my smartphone, but might not get on the DIS, unless I have a lot of time to do it. You know the DIS once you log on it shows you've read all your subscriptions and posts.
Enjoy your long weekend and if anyone new shows up, let them know I will get to them when I get back.

And before you say it, I will have a Great Time, I will have fun storming the castle, and I will drink one for you! I am having two in Germany for Paul.

More good news for me.
At WDW 11\1-11\8
Vendor conference from 11\9-11\14 @ the Swan & Dolphin.
My boss approved me going. I just have to work out the logistics of how long. I'm thinking Mon\Tue and then back to the Burgh Wednesday afternoon or evening. Current issue is that we check out Saturday A.M. and the conference discount for S&D isn't until Sunday. I'll kick myself if I don;t make this work out!

Mo’Rockin’, Off Kilter, Spirit of America Fife & Drum Corps and World Showcase Players are going away by the end of September. According to the Disney Parks blog they are being replaced by "a traditional Berber music and dance troupe in Morocco, a corps of dynamic flag-waving performers in Italy, a thrilling lumberjack-inspired show in Canada, and a Celtic folk music ensemble at the United Kingdom and more."

These have been around for a while and I am going to miss them. The guy carrying the flag for the fife and drum corps was there for ages. Flag waving in Italy? Like the reported closing of Maelstrom all will happen before my October trip. Sorry I am going to miss seeing their last performances.

I heard. Kinda sux but hopefully the new entertainment can measure up.

The last talking heads show about college football without having highlights of actual games, is on. S. Carolina/Texas A&M kickoff in less than three hours. YES! Our long national nightmare is about to be over. Chips and assorted munches are ready but no adult beverages because I have a crap load of stuff to do tomorrow. Other than that, I am a happy camper.

The guy carrying the flag was a fixture since the actual revolution. Probably the one I will miss most. That and the World Showcase Players. And that doesn't detract from Mo and Off Kilter, just lots of memories from those two shows. Norm is right, they need to consult us before the fact.

I hate to read that but especially about the Fife and Drum Corp. Of all of those groups, they were the one that would always stop me in my tracks and I would have to watch the whole performance.

Declan had his last soccer practice tonight, provincial semi goes Saturday. WE had the traditional pre-provincials team spaghetti dinner tonight and I think some of the parents are more psyched than the boys.

School soccer starts next week but that is a lot less stressful for the boys.

I am disappointed that they will be ending these shows, The World Showcase Players is our favorite (got picked to be in it last year) my son will be so sad he loved those shows, Also I'm sure it's safe to say we will all miss Mo'Rockin Fife & Drum this is history And Off Kilter always gave my son a laugh with the kilts
As of now the replacements do not seem too thrilling but I guess we have to give it a chance, if they bomb out I'm sure they will come up with other shows till they get something good Hope they are all still there when we go back in 28 days

I'm def trying to make this happen. The timing is what's throwing me off. I'd actually have been better if it had been one week later! Our org is going through what's left in our budget with a fine tooth comb as it relates to travel. I actually may sacrifice my trip so that one of my staff members can go. He SHOULD be at the conference. Me going is a nice to have. If I can;t pull this off, I think there has to be some karma\pixie dust that comes my way!

It was one LONG day today. Kids 1st day of school, hectic day at the office, hit a local Greek Church Food Festival (delicious!) and then got home and I've been doing my homework for my FF draft tomorrow. It's like college all over again and cramming for the final!

Hope y’all can take advantage of the long weekend coming up here.
It will be nice not to have to be at my desk at 6am Monday.

Of course I’m still forbidden to travel on the first weeks of each month, so I can’t make good use of the extra time. And I still have to get up early Sunday and work anyway. And while I don’t have to be “in” the office Monday I still have to get up early and run through the morning reporting processes. But on the up side, the mild fall-ish weather we’ve had while being stuck inside all this workweek will be replaced by the more customary high 90’s and the humidity will shoot back up…

so I do have that going for me.

Sad to see these go…
Removing the Fife and Drum Corps and not replacing it with anything seems a poor choice to me.

As for the rest of it, I get what they’re doing in general by swapping things that are more indicative of the country rather than somewhat Americanized things in the style of the country. We’ll see how it goes.
