DD played a holiday hoops tourney the last few days. Went 3-0 to make the playoffs, won semi 39-5 and finished off the win this morning taking the finals 26-5. DD had 8 points, 7 rebounds and a couple of pretty good looking assists in the win. Here is the team wearing the championship shirts.

Have a great Sunday to all the dads, even you CJ! The Dolphins need a win today to have a shot at the playoffs…..good luck nemie.

Great job by your DD and her team. :thumbsup2

Glad you got hone safe. Wintertime travel in Canada is unpredictable.

I think it's a cross between spending time with families, prepping for DDCC 2 and football. Yesterday just sat around FIL's place watching movies. Today more if the same. (Except the movies part) at MIL's. Tonight go see The Hobbit.

We took a back road through the woods to make the trip quicker. Only saw one partridge, almost ran it over; they have to be the stupidest bird in the world.

I cause a bit of a kerfuffle at the funeral. My middle brother and I were sitting in the front row with my parents as we were doing the readings. During the third hymn my brother decided to get in it and try to extend his range. With the emotion of the day I started to lose it. I was trying so hard not to laugh at him that it looked like I was sobbing uncontrollably. DW was sitting right behind me and started to get worried. After the service we were greeting people and she came to check on me and gave me a hug and I started again while I was trying to explain. This got DS worried and he came over to join in the family hug.

Ah but was there a pear tree in sight?

Sometimes we laugh in the worst situations. Nothing like that at Dad's, although during a quiet lull my bro's daughter ( the autistic one) started asking "why are you mad?" ( apparently she picked it up from a tv show) which we both picked up on from the front of the church. We all sang "amazing Grace" but I just mumbled my own lyrics. Continued prayers to your family

Good Morning Dads! The first day back from being off is always hard....man that bed felt good this morning and I didn't want to leave it!

Morning guys,

We went to see Saving Mr. Banks last night. Really liked the movie, Emma Thompson should get an Oscar nomination. Funny at times and others, very dramatic. Nothing much going on here today other than prep for New Years and beginning to get ready for the trip. I may go see the Hobbit later today. Life sucks. Hope everyone has a good day.

Morning guys. Been in the office for two hours and had a cup of tea which was good, and read the news which was bad. It was nice being isolated from modern life for a week. When ignorance is bliss, tis folly to be wise.

A couple of year end reports and a couple of Powerpoints this AM. Trip to the post office to mail thank you notes this afternoon and may visit Subway for the $2 cold cut trio sub for a late lunch/early supper.

Good morning :coffee:

Hope 2014 is blessed and sees a smooth transition for your family as you complete the adoption process.

...but you are that much closer to your trip! :woohoo:

... I may go see the Hobbit later today...

I'm waiting until the library gets it in. I didn't like any of the LOTR movies as well as the books but that is true of almost every book made into a movie.

I hear you. The kid that dared ask my daughter out is in the Air Force Reserve. They keep jerking him around as far as training assignments. Good luck man.

Yeah the military has been hit pretty hard from the gov't funding has been a bit of an issue. I work at Lodging on base and we lost alot of revenue because there was no funding to send people here for training. I just need to make it to the 7th and not get the email that says my information has to go in front of the retention board.

I hear ya. I'm at a state university, and we are funded with state and federal contracts. Our state FY is June. So, I get to worry twice a year. I have 9 more years before I am eligible for retirement; however, i get a free tuition benefit I can give to my children. So, I'm probably working another 12 as well.

Yeah at this point my main driving factor to getting to retirement is the benifits. I mean I'm so close to half way there. I like having base access with the free gym and the prices at the commissary are quite nice not to mention the price matching + no tax at the BX. I would love to keep Tricare too they may not be the best but it would suck the big one not having it.

Best wishes. Retirement is an illusion for me.

It used to not be one for me but non it is seeming like one too.

Just checking in. Missed a few days due to the holidays, not going back to catch up. Prayers to those in need, congrats where in order and I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. Christmas went pretty well here, although quieter than usual. Had an Italian themed dinner that was very good and just hung out for the day with family. FIL is feeling much better. Has to schedule operation to have his gall bladder removed after the new year. DD played a holiday hoops tourney the last few days. Congrats to DD

Good morning Dads! Good day of football unless you are a Bears fan *¬%#¥$ !! Or for that matter a Dolphins, Cowboys or Ravens fan. Lots of coaches getting the axe already this morning. All have a good week.

Morning everyone. Lazy day in Sarnia today prepping to head home this afternoon. Got to work tomorrow for my one shift this week. Saw the Hobbit last night, really enjoyed it, right to the end cliffhanger for movie #3. Man got to wait a year! Even started talking Disney again last night, first time I've thought of it since Dad passed. Mind you, we are still a year and a half away from going.

The life of CJ. Pardon me if I don't cry for you, Argentina. You still have warm weather and beaches.

Sounds so exciting.

We don't get Tricare, but that retirement check and health insurance are the main reasons I'm sticking around as well. My house should be paid off in 6 years, right in time to pay college tuition.

If I could get a $4 Million salary to only call one running play in the 4th quarter of a game, then I would gladly change jobs to NFL coach.

Day 11

It truly has been wonderful to have all these days off work. It is a cold day, but the weather is clear. Nothing on the schedule today either. I may stage another epic nerf gun battle with the dds. Hope all have a great day.

‘Morning all…
Finally checking back in; been just a might busy the last several days.
More work than parting unfortunately, but being employed beats the alternative.
Hope all enjoyed the holidays…
My personal Christmas gift haul included few gift cards and a coffee mug that that’s pretty much it.
But I’m OK with that, it’s about getting everyone together more than spending a pile on money.
At least that’s the direction I’m trying to get everyone headed.

Been a good day of football so far. Are you ready for the playoffs?

Oddly… we are.
As a fan of the Dolphins and Panthers, I can say that one of those teams did as expected.

The other one has got everyone around here completely confused. They’re not supposed to win ball games much less conference titles. A first round bye… what the heck is that? In two week I guess we’ll see if was all just a misunderstanding. We’re so unused to victories, that we’re not completely sure how to deal with such.

Morning fellas. Second to last day in the department that I've been in for my entire 9.5 years here. It's a little bittersweet as my current boss is the guy who hired me and has been a good mentor and friend. It will probably take me both days just to clean out my office. Oh well, on to bigger and better things to expand my horizons and it's not like I'm leaving the company.

Hope everyone had a good holiday season, whatever you may have been celebrating and a Happy New Year to all!
