DIS Dads DDC XXVI: They all went to the DDCC and all we got was this Lousy Thread!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Hey guys. Having a week here.

Yesterday DW calls with a stalled out car. Fortunately just needed a boost to the battery and all was fine.

Today she calls at work and says we have water in the basement. Recovery team got here at 2:30 and are still tearing out the drywall etc. sump pump got overloaded and the breaker flipped. No battery backup pump.

Fortunately we have good insurance. The agent we work with has covered DW's family since day 1 of his career. (He inherited DW's family as a client from his Dad). Turns out his brother runs the restoration company. Nice having connections that know the system. Also had my neighbor to do the plumbing work and another friend from the Parrish checking out the furnace.

All in all, not horrible as it is just stuff. The worst was water got into DD's school archives. We have all the papers laid out to dry and hopefully salvage some.

I'm exhausted right now, more from adrenaline crash than anything else.

Hope it gets resolved soon :thumbsup2

That's because you combined it with some scotch. ;) :lmao:

At that stage in life it was something cheaper like Everclear or Mad Dog :rotfl2:

Good morning guys!

Brent - best of luck with the transfer!!

Andy - did you stay for the whole game?

Good Morning All!!

Morning gents....

Its been a few weeks since I've posted, but I had to check in today to tell you all that we're flying out tomorrow for our big WDW hootenanny! Its been 10 years since I've been to the resort, and needless to say I'm a little wired right now :hyper:

We fly from Salt Lake to Minneapolis, then Orlando... so I'm hoping the weather cooperates. Looks like lousy weather in Minneapolis, but it doesn't seem to be affecting air travel.

Headed to Universal Fri-Sat, then DCL (Dream) from Sunday - Thurs, then WDW (POP) from Thurs - Mon.

Thanks for all the advice you've provided as we've prepped for this trip - your input has been invaluable! :worship:

Have a great time!! You're going to love the Dream!!! (and if you don't, you'll be required to hand in your DDC membership card when you return)

Make sure you wear all black with a hood. While running, keep looking back. No way they'll stop you then.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

The only problem I find with running at night is you can't sleep after. It usually takes me an hour or two to settle down. I either run in the morning or before 8.

:rotfl2: I'll surely burn more calories if I am carrying something while I run, right? maybe a small flats screen tv, or a laptop??

I think I'm going to initially try the early morning runs. If I don't seem to be getting my :eeyore: out of bed, then I'll have to resign myself to running when I get home from work.

Yep after 3 antibiotics I think it finally took care of it!!! Thank goodness :bitelip:

I swithced from Ambian several years ago to Lunesta because Ambien made me do things and not recall them. Shari has a video of me baking a chocolate cake in the middle of the night and eating the whole thing myself with no memory of it the next morning. I would get up and eat hotdogs then wonder why i was so thirsty the next day...I do recall just as the ambien would start to work that I would see things come out of the TV at me...I got into a fight with a topiary that Shari had made one day because I thought it was someone crouched down in the bedroom. I would duck to get away from angels swooping down to get me :lmao: Ambien does some crazy stuff to you...I took it on call one night and went to wrk did a patient and back home and in the bed with no memory of doing anything when I went to work the next morning. :lmao:

baking a chocolate cake and eating the whole thing in the middle of the night sounds like something I would do without the aid of any drugs.

After what has it been now....just over 10 years now, I FINALLY got the phone call.....being transferred to another store in two weeks. Got the call this morning. Boss wasn;t too happy about it though.:rotfl2: Time for a fresh start :thumbsup2
Store is even a bit closer now, just one bus to get there

Congratulations!!

Ugh. Sorry to hear about that PB. Thankfully it wasn't worse. Hope you can salvage most of DD's school stuff. Hope the repairs go well!

So I get transferred to a new store....what do I do first?

Drive by to see what options are for lunch/dinner breaks..:rotfl2: quite a selection as it turns out..Chinese place, japanese, mexican, Tims, Starbucks, sub place, burger place, a pub, a sitdown restraunt, and a big supermarket :thumbsup2 All set!

Also spotted an EB Games too....sweet

Nice!! No matter what career path we choose, we still need to eat!

I just check the last page and count the number of times "peanut butter" and "bacon" are used. If there is more bacon than peanut butter then all is well in the world. :cool1:

not a bad barometer. But you have to account for the Beverly also, i think.

I got the night off from work tonight. Perhaps this means I'll be able to get some chores done around the house. DW was upset yesterday at my lack of proficiency in getting housework done. I need to find ways to do that better.

In other news, I bought my running shoes!! (skechers go run) I was thinking of getting started this morning and of course, it's pouring out!!! but perhaps I can go this evening since I am off from work.

In other other news, I think I've made up my mind as to what cell phone I am going to get. My phone has been out of commision for two weeks and I'm eligible for an upgrade. I've been on the fence between the HTC DNA and the Galaxy SIII, and yesterday I was playing with the Galaxy Note 2 at the store. It's gigantic and I really like that one but the price was $300 vs. $200 for the other two. Then I saw on Amazon wireless that they discount the Note 2 $100 down to $200 (DNA and SIII are $150 on that site) So now at only a $50 difference, I think it's worth it. Mulling it over today... payday is tomorrow. Could have my new phone by monday.

Reading about Steve's London/Toronto flight reminded me of waking up on the train the other night to find we were going extremely fast through the tunnel under the East River into manhattan. It's easily the fastest I've ever seen the train go inside the tunnel. The fact that it woke me up says something. Anyway, the thought went through my head that maybe the train was out of control... :scared1: I looked around and no one else seemed to be concerned. But that didn't stop me from thinking about it. I determined there really wasn't much I could do, and I just started thinking about the fact that I never did get around to doing a few things that I've always meant to... like getting out of debt, making a living will, getting life insurance... After a minute of thinking about that stuff I put my head back and tried to go back to sleep. I figured if it was going to happen, I'd rather not see it coming! :rotfl:

Gonna try to make this a productive day!! Hope everyone enjoys theirs!!

Morning...

going to get the girls off to school, then enjoy the day off..:cool1: Likely my morning will be to pop some Aleve and have a nap. Later in the afternoon I got the follow-up appointment about all the tests I did, see where this fungal condition is at, and early evening a meet-up with the Kindergarten teacher.

Also going to monitor Facebook and see if word on the transfer leaks out. I know, and the boss knows, but no one else yet there. Boss oddly enough hasn;t told anyone about it, or mention my replacement, and he's also off today. But the LCBO grapevine is fast and sneaky, so someone'll say something, people love gossipi there, and people in our store have connections to my new one. Me, I'm not saying anything :rolleyes1

On the now infamous flight (inour house at least) from London to Toronto...I got worried when the pilot came on and said we were diverting to Iceland for problems of unkown origin...the flight attendants started freaking out running up and down the isle in a panic...Shari had a dream before we left that we crashed in the ocean and I told her she was crazy. Eventhough some of her dreams have panned out in the past. I looked at her and told her that we were going to be ok and she snapped back that no we were not :lmao: I kept thinking wht it was going to feel like to die and figured id find out any minute now. Shari sat praying for them to get the plane fixed. I had already given up and was praying for it to be just quick and painless:rotfl2: After about 45 minutes of total mayhem on the plane the pilot got things under control and we went on to Toronto. The flight attendants broke out the alcohol at about 9am and was giving everyone freebies..as much as the wanted compliments of Air Canada :confused3 I looked at the lady and told her thanks but no thanks and that we had 7 hours left on the flight and that I was not wanting to bust the pearly gates open at 700 miles an hour with alcohol on my breath!:rotfl2:

Ummm... :scared1:

I've heard a lot of scary plane stories including one where the front gear collapsed when pulling up to the gate but when the flight attendants get into a panic during a flight, it would make anyone want to change their pants.

I'm going to post a different link instead. One that better reflects my thoughts on how to handle our PR section. Please post your reaction times on clicking the link.

Thanks Mark. I really needed that after the last few days.

I'm happy, a fresh start, new challenges. New store is in Clarkson, at Southdown Rd and Royal Windsor Drive (basicly Lakeshore and Erin Mills, both roads change names..:sad2: )It's a busy one too...no idea if I'll get any in-store responsibilities, will stop by the store next week to check with the manager for my shifts etc. Glad to shed the beer duties, things got too difficult to manage with all the restrictions. Will miss being the spirit advocate though..:thumbsup2

Congrats, Brent! I'm glad you're finally getting the change you needed. Hope it works out for the best.:thumbsup2

Wow...I wouldn't even wish that on my worst nemesis. Sorry it's been a rough week, Brian. I don't know if it's something in the water this week, or what. In any case, I'm glad you have good people taking care of you. Hope things get better soon.

Andy - did you stay for the whole game?
Yep... a few comments.

1. IU has the better team this year... obviously. I felt like Purdue would have a chance if Hammons could stay out of foul trouble, and they could neutralize IU's shooters. Well, neither of those things clearly happened and our guards were sloppy with the ball, but I really did like a lot of what I saw out of the Hammons vs. Zeller battles in the post. Gives me some confidence in this young team going forward, but they're going to have to protect the ball better and find some consistent scoring.

2. Victor Oladipo is a beast. I hate him, but I love him. He is easliy the most important and most underrated player on IU. He gives 100% effort, 100% of the time on both ends of the floor and does everything well. He doesn't run his mouth and he just goes out there and plays ball.

3. Will Sheehey... well, the polar opposite of Oladipo. Seemed to be more worried about jawing and throwing some "immature" gestures at the Purdue student section. The only problem I had with DJ Byrd's illegal screen on him was that he didn't hit him higher and harder. If I was playing in a game with an opposing player running around acting like that, I'd have definitely made my presence known to him. That's why you have 5 fouls to give. :rolleyes1

4. IU fans... granted not all of them are this bad. But doing the Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoosiers chant during the National Anthem???? Really???? Come on.:sad2:

And there was the one IU fan that got un-friended on Facebook. I can put up with some trash talk, that's part of it. But there has to be something misfiring in your head to think it is appropriate in the year 2013 to put a Facebook status up that says "I wish somebody would walk into Mackey Arena with a bomb and blow it up." Gotta say, as I was reading that sitting in Mackey Arena, next to DW, I took that one a little bit personal. :furious:

‘Morning all…
Did I mention earlier that work $@(&$?
Well, actually, it may be a function of the overlords $@(&ing, but the result is the same.

So…
What’d I miss?

Whoa…
Sorry to hear that you didn’t miss all of that nonsense.
May things around there get better… fast.

Congrats on the transfer.
Sounds like the recon mission was success.
Hope that you are able to make yourself at home in the new digs.

I like to think the full picture has the kitten dangling over a hungry crocodile..:rolleyes1

We’re all just hanging on with a croc lickin’ his chops just a short drop beneath us…
:lmao:

I just check the last page and count the number of times "peanut butter" and "bacon" are used. If there is more bacon than peanut butter then all is well in the world. :cool1:

Ya’ know?
There may well be a life lesson in there somewhere.
:scratchin

I think I'm going to initially try the early morning runs. If I don't seem to be getting my :eeyore: out of bed, then I'll have to resign myself to running when I get home from work.

Creative use of a smiley there sir.
Hope that the new paradigm works for you.

not a bad barometer. But you have to account for the Beverly also, i think.

Where there’s "peanut butter"… “Beverly” can’t be far behind…

Yesterday, it was like a spring day, rain and melting of snow...today again cold and gusty, all the wet roads and sidewalksfroze up..:rotfl2: Weather sure is crazy..

Getting all caught up

Brian - sorry about the water mess. Hopefully it all gets cleaned up to minimal damage.

Brent - congrats on the transfer. I hope you enjoy spreading alcohol induced happiness to a new part of town!

Mark - hopefully today will be full of competent, polite coworkers.

:rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

My goodness, I almost got that out with a straight face!

At that stage in life it was something cheaper like Everclear or Mad Dog :rotfl2:

That Mad Dog was some brutal stuff.

Team Sparrow member is running? You may be thrown off the team if I can borrow someone from the other team to throw you off. :lmao: I might just switch to team beer.

I think most of our pwk is done, but it always good to check. As for the death thing, i sleep thru storms. When its my time, its time. No regrets, orher than not getting to use my dvc points at VGC or Aulani.

YUP, seems someone always gets the news out first, no matter where you work.

4. IU fans... granted not all of them are this bad. But doing the Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoosiers chant during the National Anthem???? Really???? Come on.:sad2::

That is more than a few observations. Stupid chanting Hoosiers.

Maybe that is another regret, not picking an occupation i enjoy. So yes, work sucks.

Definitely a crappy week so far, but it sounds like things are at least somewhat under control. Keep your head up, tomorrow's Friday! :thumbsup2

Other than a cold morning, things going well here. The Bishop of our diocese had Mass at our church last night, followed by a reception, to meet the Religious Education children and their families. I finally figured out why youngest dd was so excited, she thought it was going to be the Pope. :lmao:

On the work side, I finished all my projects for the FY. I'm going to hold this last one awhile longer as if I turn it in earlier, then I'll just get more work. The travel schedule doesn't look too bad thru then as well. I have my iPad to catch up on some reading, and then I need to plan food for Superbowl.

Morning Guys

Just about to head down to the last day of the convention. Flight home is around 6 tonight and it is a direct flight. :cool1:

Hope you all have a great day. Later.

Your observations are dead on:

Zeller is not living up to the hype. So what if you cant teach tall - see Shawn Bradley.

Sheehey is a punk. He either plays lights out or disappears fro an entire game.

Oladipo is the real deal. He should be the one getting all of the press. He will have a great career in the NBA if he continues to hustle like he does now.

As for the fans, I agree that no one should be saying anything during the anthem. However, Purdue fand were chanting Hoosiers Suck when Purdue was losing by 20+ :confused3

I can't do nyquil, it does nothing for me except keep me up all night:confused3

I'm with you on that. It keeps me up and I feel worse the next day. Tylenol cold seems to work well for us.
