:cheer2:So here it is, post 1000:cheer2:

Wow, hard to believe it took this long to get to this point but here I am. Hopefully the 2nd 1000 will come a bit quicker.

I went back and tried to find my first post on the DISDad thread. It’s kind of funny to look back at certain periods of our threads and see how relationships developed, the things that people are going through, and the events that have become almost like placeholders in our timeline. I became a member at the same point that Nate was officially christened as Corn Fuzz.

A lot of guys have come along since I joined, and a lot have lost touch, but the core group that welcomed me is mostly still here. It’s kind of comforting that among the complete anonymous nature of the internet we have gone out of our ways to open ourselves up and share our lives with each other as we wait for our next trips to come up. This is more than a discussion group; it’s more like a brotherhood. When one of us hurts, it pains us all, and in the same way when someone shares some good news, we all feel a bit better.

Thanks for being there for me guys, maybe over the next thousand posts I’ll actually run into a few of you. To those of you who have reached out to me outside the boards, a special thank you, your advice/concern/support means more to me than you will ever know.:thumbsup2 <----Yes it's a thumb!

I can't Wait! I will have my first Dole Whip in June! I can't believe I have been to WDW numerous times and have never had a Dole Whip!

Our founder has never had a dole whip!!
Are you having it at MK or at the Poly? MK dole whips are a little specialer!! (cause your in MK!)

I missed the last disdads meet at the zoo! Let's do it! Can't this weekend. Gotta go shopping for a prom dress for DD17 then Dave and busters with the boy and his GF and family. My DD17 never wears dresses.. So I am scared something will get in my eyes when I see her wearing her prom dress!!:rolleyes1

Hear ya. Have had many of the dust moments this year.

Just got the kiddos down.
Got here around 2pm checked in POR - royal room. Very nice. Kds loved all the little details.
Got to Epcot by 3pm. Did Mission Space: green, Disney visa character meet, Had a few drinks at Club Cool (2 beverlys/Beverlies?)Journey into imagination, and kim possible mission in china.
Then over to AKL for dinner at Boma. Good! :thumbsup2 on the butternut squash soup, lamb curry, nut crusted salmon and zebra domes!
Got to see giraffes and zebras from the viewing area outside.
Hopped a bus back to Epcot, did Nemo and friends, then watched Illuminations.
Bus back to POR, Went for quick swim with the kids, now got em asleep.

Try to have some fun will you. Sounds like a lousy trip so far.

Morning guys. :surfweb:

Related note; Do all hospitals give the father of the baby free food while the wife is in labor? Ours did, and don't get me wrong, I took full advantage of it, but it struck me as odd that while my wife was in serious pain and discomfort (and not allowed to eat anything) I could pick up the phone and order a huge meal. Again, I didn't let this stop me, but it made me wonder if they should offer that service... :confused3

No free food. Doubt I could eat much anyway. Post DD being born, they offered a mom and dad steak dinner for a charge. Had a bottle of expensive champagne and put a taste on my finger and to DD's lips.

Thought I'd give a little heads-up for those dads who are planning to visit Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, this season. When we visited for the pass member preview day two Saturdays ago my DD found something that I've never noticed at the park before. It seems they have put in a "mining" operation over in New France by the smokehouse...

Forget the kids having fun, count me in. Did this in Georgia but struck out panning for gold. So bought a vial of the stuff.

It's been 5 years since my DS was born, but I don't recall getting any food. I'll have to see what I can do this time... :scratchin;

Good luck to Bambi. Try to be useful. I know I wasn't.

All I got was an uncomfortable chair to sit in and the bill. MD said I could cut the cord for DD but I told him I don't ask him to do my job why should I do his? He still would have charged the full rate.

I hate hospitals and was a wreck during the pregnancy. At the Amnio, the doctor yelled at me to either leave or sit down because I was pacing too much and making her nervous. Told the doctor during the delivery that I was a bit queasy. He explained if I pass out, I was on my own he was otherwise occupied. The nurse later slid a chair behind me.

So the scoutmaster wants to talk to me about my "role in the troop". This is the guy who repeatedly ignored the bullying despite my highlighting it to him. Finally started to shape up after I threatened to the council to dissociate our feeder Pack with that troop. Should be an interesting phone call...

Good luck. Troop politics can be annoying.

So here it is, post 1000.

Wow, hard to believe it took this long to get to this point but here I am. Hopefully the 2nd 1000 will come a bit quicker...

Well said and congrats on 1,000.

Hey Randy...I was at Okeechobee last week:rolleyes1:lmao:

Hi guys.

One of my brother's favorite places. Catch anything?

So it turns out that the new troop committee chair called me. He asked me what i wanted to do. i said that i thought i'd be a good assistant scoutmaster. I get the sense that they don't want me in that role. He offered me advancement or a variety of other minor committee roles. Unfortunately, at our troop, they've put up a wall between the committee & the program. The wives run the committee & the husbands do the assistant scoutmaster roles. Also, our assistant scoutmasters are mostly worthless, never showing up for anything. It's extremely frustrating and I dont see any way to change things

Finally started to shape up after I threatened to the council to dissociate our feeder Pack with that troop. Should be an interesting phone call...

Sorry to hear you still have trouble. Some people just Want to make it about themselves and live some delusional glory days. Good luck

Hey guys!!

So...Hey!! :)

Hey back.

Thought I'd give a little heads-up for those dads who are planning to visit Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, this season. When we visited for the pass member preview day two Saturdays ago my DD found something that I've never noticed at the park before. It seems they have put in a "mining" operation over in New France by the smokehouse. You can purchase bags of mining rough in different sizes (and varying dollar amounts... from $5-$15) then head over to a sluice box set up where you can "pan" the dirt to find gem stones. I've never seen DD so thrilled and excited about finding stuff before. She's been watching Gold Rush with us this past season and she just thought this was totally awesome. We managed to get by with just one $5 bag this trip... but she is already saving money for the next visit.

Here's the web site for the company they used to set up the operation. If I had a more rural property I would consider investing in an operation like this. Kids LOVE it!

Cold River Mining Company

And look... here's a picture of the setup at the park!

I know exactly where that is, in the store they have a box on the counter with Wolf claw nails (think they are like $2) Hunter has to get one every time we go:lmao:

We did one of those at the Lost River Cave in Bowling Green, KY a few years back. The kids just loved it!
:thumbsup2

Only an hour away and no disdad visit. I am still sad to this day. :confused3

So, I made another appt. for the wife's car to get worked on yesterday, after waiting weeks and weeks for the dealer to call and say that the part is in. They never called, I just got fed up waiting for a part that cost me 115$. So I called and setup the appt. It was for 4 in the afternoon today, and I told the wife to just head on down there and I would leave work and pick up the kids. Well, swmbo has to go shopping today for Easter stuff. Really? So, we end having to trade cars, and now I would have to run down and get the car worked on.
This morning, I get to work, and find out that I have a meeting this afternoon and it goes with an 18 slide ppt and an excel. Looks like I will be cancelling the appt this afternoon.

DOH!!:headache:

matt

Yu have to get new Easter stuff! DW ends that argument every time. I never get it.

Always wonderful to have light at the end of the tunnel. :thumbsup2

Thanks. It is a really big light and what's keeping me going right now.

Good luck in the new position.

Lateral moves are good for the experience, and change of pace.

Thanks. It won't start for awhile and I still keep some of my current duties, but it's something new. I enjoy the change.

my train ride is 1 hour 15 minutes.

The drive commute to the new office building is 10 minutes, 8 miles away. I think there are 3 stoplights. It is a little longer in the morning when I drive children to school.

Indeed and I got to see some of them today. Hollers off the Hal Rodgers Parkway were beautiful with the redbud, dogwood, and shadbush in bloom as well as some of the understory herbaceous plants that will be in bloom in a few days. Places most people wouldn't even believe exist. Extreme poverty (one family just got indoor plumbing in the mid 90's) but still content. Just a reminder that if you have your health and one or two true friends you really don't have much to complain about.

Edit... and with this post I surpassed my post count on the other forum where I can occasionally be found. Good folks on both but this is more like "home"

That is a nice drive that way. I marvel at the $500K house next door to a trailer on wheels in the next lot.

Congrats on the offer! More money is nice (and needed) but being recognized for your contribution is good as well.

Hope you and the family have a safe trip to HH and a relaxing vacation.

Thanks.
