AND BACON PAGE OWNAGE!!!!!!!

I just wanted you guys to note that there have been pictures of Bacon posted in the last two days, and I haven't posted any!

Nothing wrong with that at all if that is what he wants to do and I would be the last to suggest a BS/BA for everyone, but he has great potential but was not exposed to opportunities along the way.
I will argue with this point... especially in this economy. I have younger sisters who are twins and they graduated with a bachelors degree in animal science in 2008. One of them has been working an hourly job with no benefits on a thoroughbred farm since graduation. She makes next to nothing, gets no insurance or paid vacation and puts in longer hours than I do.

My other sister worked 2 years in a part time position at the FSA office. Due to the Federal government trying to cut back, her position was one that went away about a year and a half ago. Since then she has worked doing some odd jobs at places, including helping out on the horse farm my other sister works at when they need an extra hand. She has sent resumes and filled out applications and is getting nowhere. She had an interview with a Tractor Supply Company store a few weeks ago and the manager just looked at her and told her she was overqualified and shouldn't even be interviewing for the position.:confused3 She just needs a frickin job.

Norm made a comment that everyone should be required to take a class on financial planning. I completely agree with this statement. I recently purchased a new pick up truck. 2 weeks later, my younger cousin, who is still in school suddenly decides he needs to trade his for a newer one, because mine is newer than his. He doesn't even have a job!!!:scared1: How the beverly does he think he's going to pay for it??? :confused3 I see that with him and a lot of his friends... some of whom have already graduated and received those degrees. :sad2:

Hey guys,

My FIL has been found safe. He was pulled over by police for speeding in Lynchburg, VA. When they asked him where he was, he said, "Delaware." He had no recollection of ever having been in North Carolina. So obviously he's very disoriented at the least. The police are taking him to the hospital in VA to get checked out and we have some stellar family members who are making the drive to get him and return the rental car. I was about to hop in the car to go get him but my wife forbade me from leaving her alone tonight after the ordeal she's been through.

Thanks for the prayers (they work!) and the offers for help. You guys rock.
Great news. I'm so glad they found him and he's safe. I would hate to have to go through what your family went through yesterday. That really has to put things in perspective for you.

His procedure was supposed to take about 4 hours and end around Noon....when we didn't hear anything we started to worry....about 2p they finally told us he was in recovery! :sad2:

Doc came out and talked to us and said everything went fine....but unfortunately, because Dad likes his Bacon, his girth provided a much smaller area to work in. This slowed things down but didn't impede on the success of the procedure.

So now, they send out his prostate to be biopsied and checked for "clear margins" to know if the cancer was confined to just his prostate. Results in about a week.
Glad surgery went ok. I hope it got all the cancer. :thumbsup2

Very cool! Alaska is the only state I need for all 50. Someday...

Man, Mark's news about his FIL being found safe made my day! :thumbsup2

Me too! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

It's a great feeling to know I have so many caring, concerned friends.

Scott: Glad the procedure went ok. Hope you and your dad are getting some much-needed rest!

Great news Mark!
Speeding, huh? Well, they caught the Son of Sam on a parking ticket. Fire all the detective! The traffic control officers have it all covered!

I guess I didn't have the story quite right. He got a speeding ticket somewhere in NC, but the alert hadn't gone out yet so they let him go. Later, a concerned citizen in Lynchburg called in his license plate to police because he was driving erratically and almost hit them. At that point, the license got a hit due to the alert and the police were able to track him down and pull him over. So it sounds like he was very, very fortunate that he didn't kill himself or anybody else.

I have a friend that teaches in a "last chance" type of school. All the kids that have been expelled or otherwise couldn't (or more likely, didn't want to) cut it in the regular school system. He's supposed to teach all the basics - English, Science, etc. But he focuses very heavily on life skills - budgeting, balancing a checkbook, job applications, etc because that's what these kids need more than anything.

Welcome John!!! Always nice to have another New Englander in here!!!! :cool1:

Good morning all. Let's see, several interesting subthreads to weigh in on.

Thrilled to see that Captian O's FIL is safe. I hope they didn't give him a ticket for speeding. Makes you wonder if anyone, say 65 or older, should have Lojack or Onstar in their cars for just such situations.

Pro Wrestling? Haven't watched it since Vince McMahon Jr took over and turned it into a three ring circus. It was a guilty pleasure to stay up late on Saturday nights to watch it on the local station with personalities like Ivan Putsky, the Mighty Igor or Mil Mascaras. And most of the show was actual wrestling, not all the posing and pagentry you see now. But, entertainment is like art, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Hmm, hard working civil servants. Well, two of my team just set down in Afghanistan for several weeks to train Marines on a new item we developed for them over the past six months. And in the last five years, i've had four others go into theater and every one has come under fire, either rockets and mortars on their FOBs or small arms fire directed at the helicopter he was in. And of course there's the more routine tasks of spending days or weeks at a test range in some god forsaken corner of the country testing equipment to make sure it's safe and effective when it goes into the hands of Soldiers. So not all civil servants are sitting behind a desk trying to figure out how to separate you from your money.

No Child Left behind. Yeah, they gave that waiver to New Jersey too. But remember, in order to get the waiver the state had to agree to implementation of different requirements handed down by the Dept of Education so you are in effect trading a set of standards developed by committee, ie Congrees for a set developed by an Idelogical bureauacrat, ie, the Secratary of Education. Reall win-win there.

A cool thing we saw in Alaska was their upside down trees.

They start with a dead tree and pull it out of the ground roots and all. Then turn it over with the roots up.

Very cool! Alaska is the only state I need for all 50. Someday...

I need a ruling on how you count your states.

1) Does an airport layover count?
2) Do I actually need to step on land?

First question is fairly self explanatory, but for the second, let me 'splain. A few years ago my dad and I went to a fishing lodge in the upper Alaskan inlet on the Canadian side of the water. Where the lodge was located though was less than a half mile from the Alaskan shore. Well one day on the boats, our guide got detoured a little, and the next thing we know we've got a park services boat coming up on us, weapons raised. Over the PA the ranger states, "You have entered US waterways under the authority of the Alaskan Park Services. Please return to your waters or prepare for boarding." Apparently this wasn't the first time for this guide as his response was, "Sorry Frank, caught a bad current." We pormptly turned around and were back safely in the protected waters of Canada. :lmao:

So would this qualify as visiting Alaska? :confused3
