Family hit the road about 2 hours ago. DW was only 2.5 hours behind when she wanted to leave so right on schedule. :rotfl2: Kung Pao Chicken and a nice red wine for dinner.

I have 3 months more or less to get the house here back in order again, one room at a time, on top of the longer days at work.

Finally got tickets for DL. They are having massive problems because of the tomorrow's price increase. Was on hold for about 30 minutes on and off before I could buy them. Saved me some change though.

Awsome:thumbsup2 I always like to hear someone saved a few bucks, on our trips every time I save some cash from something that has to do with the trip I buy a Dis GC this way when the trip comes up I'm already ahead of the game with some spending money that I would have spent on the trip anyway:confused3

So, are you single at the house for 3 months?

Congrats. I convinced DW we needed a summer trip to WDW. Since we are out of DVC points, we looked online thru WDW and almost booked one. But, it was about $2K for the week and I need to find an extra $2K in our budget.

For the 2nd time this week I must improve my odds of the Nov trip, mon it was 50/50, weds after booking it became 95/5, now after going to a campfire at my friends house and hearing my wife talking to his wife on how she has to make sure she will have off those days:thumbsup2 I'm now placing the odds at 99/1:cool1: I't's good to be King:worship:

Excellent news, Ron!

Made it back from soccer. We were short 3 players in our league and ended up playing down one player. We ended up tying that game. Then, another team was short 3 players in anoth division so I took some of my players over to th mixed division and coached them to a 0-1 game. It was a close game. I was proud of my daughter as this was the first time she has played against the boys and she did very well. She had a few hard shots on goal , but just couldn't get them to go. I refereed two games after that while both girls played on the inflatables at fun day. Tomorrow will be our last game of the season. It has been another great one. A beautiful and hot day.

:thumbsup2 Spent my day in Scoutmaster training yesterday while my DW shuttled the kids to sports. Felt pretty guilty, but at least now I'm fully trained, and it will give me some additional options with this disaster of a troop I'm a part of. Unfortunately, DD#2 doesn't like the other neighboring troop (his friends are in the bad troop which I think is part of it), while DS#1 does. Sure would be easier to pull them out of scouts all together, but I really do believe that the program would be good for both of them. So we're back to considering starting another troop in town. More to follow I'm sure...

Hey guys. :wave2:

Morning, Paul! :wave2:

Thought I'd share some very good news today. Some of you know that I had crazy amounts of student loans from college and med school (well over 200K) when I graduated (my parents were not very good about saving for education, a mistake that my DW and I are NOT repeating!). Anyway, for the last 6 years, I've been fortunate enough to get a loan repayment award from the NIH (National Institutes of Health) and today I got notice that I was approved for my last renewal (since I will be all paid off!). You have to renew every 2 years, and the application process is fairly extensive. For those of you who have large student loans, or have family with them, I highly encourage you to look into repayment programs. Mine is from the NIH for research, but there are public health awards for working in underserved areas, and the military has some great ones too.

Well, his friends may follow you to another group. Or, it is another part of life's lessons. When a situation isn't right, you don't have to accept it and say there are no other options.

Great news.

Fortunately, I didn't have student loans when I graduated because I worked and paid my way thru. I didn't go to medical school, and tuition at UL was less than $1K per semester and my apartment was $235 per month. My employer paid for my Master's Degree conditionally upon a 2 year work contract. So, as you said, there are options out there,

Good morning all

Morning Dave. Everything still go for next Saturday?

That's our thought as well, but nicely put!

Thanks, Norm! College was very small. Working is the way to go, and very doable (everyone should have to wait tables at some point, teaches you great lessions). But can't work in med school... (I tried, not good)

Thanks guys. The trip is paid for except car rental in Hawaii and spending money. Tomorrow will be booking the helicopter sightseeing trip on the big island.

Norm, hope you can find the money in the budget. You are a better man than I am. I just go for it and it seems to work out. It helps that my monthly bills are low.

That is great news. One of the reasons the Pirate Princess is going to Seton Hall is the opportunity to work for a hospital doing research while they pay for her Masters and PhD. That is if she stays with Psychology.

Agree with both you and Norm. After her first semester, she will enter the work/study program. She doesn't know it yet but I do.

The kid got home yesterday afternoon after her date's dad took them to lunch. She spent the night in a hotel room with 4 other girls. The dates were in another room and one of the kid's parents chaperoning in another room. She wanted to go out to see some friends but crashed instead. Asleep now for about 13 hours.

A couple of pictures I posted on Facebook:

You may notice the kid that dared ask my little girl to the prom has his arms around her. Reports are that he will be out of traction in a few weeks.

According to her, a good time was had by all.

Well done... She's beautiful... I am sure the 2 weeks out of commission was worth it for the young lad.

Putting his hands around her waist...I am surprised he still has hands left after pulling a stunt like that.

Glad she had a good time... and she made it safe.

:thumbsup2

Sunday morning ownage.

It was a lot harder in grad school than I remembered undergrad. I also had some work time (part of that contract) for schoolwork. I thought I would go on for my Ph.D, but after my Master's degree, I couldn't do it. I can only imagine it even more difficult for med school. Now, I get that tuition benefit that I can use for my children or myself but just don't have the motivation to go back to school.

Normally, I would have already had that trip booked. But, with the purchase of more DVC points, I just don't think we can do it.

Mine will be working - whether they know or like it, at least during their undergrad. The plan is to move them to a graduate Florida school when I move there to retire, so hopefully they will settle there in the state and I won't have a long drive to see them. That whole adult self-determination thing may be a little challenging.

Morning all... long weekend!! (and a three-day work week to boot :cool1: )

Have a good day at work, fun at Avengers movie, and great long weekend. I don't know about pricing since we did points, but they have busier times than others and there may be some deals. I remember seeing them on Expedia one time when we were searching hotels.

Work: Went okay, but stressful. Not from staff, but lots of technical malfunctions with registers and computers. Was damn happy to get out of there last night

Avengers: awesome. pure awesomeness. Glad we went out fot the Imax 3D experience.

Vero: priced it, and it looked a little too hight for what we want, but we've agreed to tuck that thought away for future use. As of right now, it's going to be Cocoa Beach, and might spring for Kennedy Space Center. It's looking more and more like we are repeating our big trip in 2003, which is not a bad thing.:thumbsup2

That's terrific news Chris!

Well count me jealous... Though I haven't been at the office for a week. :thumbsup2 I'll be back there tomorrow though.
