Genuinely sad day in Wrigleyville. Looks like Kerry Wood is retiring after the game today.:sad1:

I just hope Dusty learned his lesson and doesn't wreck the arms of the Reds' young pitchers.:sad2:

I remember watching the day that Kerry Wood got 20K's. I don't remember if it was for gym class or if we were getting ready to go out to baseball practice but a bunch of us were around a TV in the locker room at our high school gym. He had some impressive stuff (as did Mark Pryor). It is just a shame that they couldn't stay healthy.

Sad day indead. He has always been a stand-up guy and a gerat ambassador for the Cubs.

On a side note, the fact you were still in school at that time bugs me as I had just moved to Chicago a few months before that game and still at work when it happened.

The prom Beverly is nothing compared to the Benjamins I need to shell out for school when I get back.

Point taken.

After a long hiatus I have fallen back in love with Baseball. Have tickets to two games next week. Forgot how fun the game is.

Andy, I am surprised you are not busting my chops over the Heat/Pacers series.

Ummm, I think Andy is just giving you a pass at this point. I however am not so kind. 19 POINTS!!!!! to the Pacers?!?!?!?!?

Andy, I am surprised you are not busting my chops over the Heat/Pacers series.

Sorry CJ, I think just about everybody is rooting for the Pacers. More accurately, we're all just rooting against the Heat. Even more accurately, we're just rooting against LeBron..

Andy, I am surprised you are not busting my chops over the Heat/Pacers series.
Well, I'll be completely honest... I have a hard time getting excited about the NBA. It just doesn't feel like real "basketball" to me most of the time anymore.:confused3 I prefer to watch a competitive college or even HS basketball game.

I have been trying to watch a little bit more this year and actually managed to watch a full game for the first time since probably the "Malice in the Palace" season. I'm glad to see the Pacers play well, and I do love the fact that they actually play a solid team defense. It makes it a little easier to watch when I feel like there's actually a little bit of effort out there.

You know, I can't figure out what exactly the determination is that is used to dictate what and how to radio edit. I think the version I usually hear on the radio is "toes in the water, toes in the sand" yet in Toby Keith's Red Solo Cup, they don't edit out the "kiss my @$$" part, but they do change the word testicles to vegetables.:confused3

vegetables is a funny word. :lmao:

Yes, you are a Beverly. Not really, but I don't get many chances..

Thanks.

Glad to here cruise is paid for as well as dance recital. Enjoy the moments.

Thank you, I will definitely try my best.

Sorry, I was out at Evan's preschool graduation. Probably 40 kids (in 4 classses) each one introduced individually by the teacher, who then had a few remarks about each one. By the time the last one was introduced, the kids that went first had been sitting up on the stage in their little chairs for close to 45 minutes. I'm sure you can imagine how still they sat for that long. :joker:

sounds like they really could have used Disney's new queue-less line system.

While the kid is getting her hair and makeup done for the prom, I started to plan our Disneyland portion of the trip.

What a difference in making a dinning reservation at DL vs WDW. Wanted to get Napa Rose but you have to call the restaurant directly. They open up at 5:00pm Pacific so will call tonight. The DL neophyte that I am, didn't realize that a new restaurant (Carthay Circle Theater) is now taking reservations. They mentioned it on the spiel while I was on hold. Didn't know what it is but decided why not.

Gave the CM the date and time and poof, it was reserved. Our Conversation: Her, "OK, you are all set." Me, "Don't you need my credit card number?" "No." "Are you going to give me a confirmation number?" "Nope, we don't use those. Just show up a little before your reservation and give them your name." "That's it?" "Yes, that is it." I am a bit freaked out right now, not having a confirmation number.

Got off the phone and Googled the place. Seems it is an upscale restaurant along the lines of California Grill. Opens June 15 with the rest of CA openings. Looks interesting.

Need to find my Unofficial Guide to see what else I am missing.

taking notes... living vicariously until we can make our pilgrimage.

Tired again. DD has been getting up 1-3x/night, and since I am the at-home parent, I am the one that gets to get up and take care of her. Hopefully this will pass soon - she's 5, and this seems to happen every few months.

Did not do too much yet today - got DS on the bus, DD to preschool, took a cartfull of bottles and cans back to the store (so that I could get that deposit back), quick trip to the hobby store, then took scout stuff over to the school, picked up DD, dropped books off at library, deposited checks at the bank, and went and compared some new mowers.

(It sounds like more than it is - that's not too abnormal a morning, more or less. Different day, different routine, but more or less the same.)

I should be cleaning, since the in-laws will be here tomorrow for DS confirmation this weekend, and I will start in a bit, but I made the mistake of sitting in my comfy chair after lunch, and just haven't gotten moving again yet.

sounds a lot like my day... errands, driving, errands, drop off, pick up, procrastinate from cleaning... eat food and feed others... do the hokey pokey and turn myself around... that's what it's all about!

Good news is that DVC sent out the email today inviting us to the NY DVC event!! and they had a morning time slot so we can go before I have to leave for work!!

More good news: I weighed in today at 211! That brings my total weight loss to 29lbs!! only 11 more to reach my goal!! (I am starting to think 195-190 is a possibility if I can keep it up, but I'll be happy with 200!!)

spoiling myself with two slices of pizza tonight for dinner!! :rotfl2:

Howdy, DISDads!

I know it has been a while, but I am still alive and kickin'. Just wanted to check in and say hi over here (I have been spending more time on the 'other' board.)

Oh, and I just noticed that I was finally visited by the Tag Fairy®!

Was it Dusty or the Cubs' curse? Pryor and Wood were good pitchers. They had a good run there a few years.

.

It is beautiful to sit outside at a MLB stadium, watch the game, eat a hot dog, and drink a $7 beer. I miss it so much. Our minor league team plays on the field at the public park. It has two sets of portable bleachers.

Sorry CJ, I think just about everybody is rooting for the Pacers. More accurately, we're all just rooting against the Heat. Even more accurately, we're just rooting against LeBron..

I'm rooting for LeBron. I think he is a tremendous player.

Good to see you back this way.

Calling it a day. Pretty quiet around here and I have over 50 hours in already this week. My assistant just left and other than that most everyone was off all day or left at noon. Sadly we were out planting tomato trial all afternoon. I'm a real redneck now.

Need to help the family pack up and looks like they will head out tomorrow if we get the laundry done. Means I get to celebrate my anniversary by myself next week so I will live it up and go to Little Caesars and get the 3 meat deal. :cool1:

Congrats on the big graduation event. I'm sure the front row behaved extremely well.

Do a good trip report so I know what to book 5years from now.

Most likely a combination of the two. Dusty seems to lose track of pitch counts when a guy is young and throwing it hard. Makes me really glad that Chapman hasn't been converted to a starter yet.

I'm rooting for LeBron. I think he is a tremendous player.
No doubt. Best in the league, but he seriously mismanaged his brand. I didn't really care about him one way or the other until he left Cleveland. That was so ego-driven that it turned me off to him- probably for good. Plus I never like super-hyped athletes (unless they're on my team:thumbsup2).

Yeah, we thought Dusty was the missing piece of the puzzle. Didn't quite work out. Now we're all waiting for Ryne Sandberg to bring us a WS. We'll see.

The Prom Attending Pirate Princess is in the limo on the way to the big dance. I have Luca Brasi tailing them now. The date better not try anything.

Ummm, I think Andy is just giving you a pass at this point. I however am not so kind. 19 POINTS!!!!! to the Pacers?!?!?!?!?

You are correct sir. And the Bulls are doing what now?

Sorry CJ, I think just about everybody is rooting for the Pacers. More accurately, we're all just rooting against the Heat. Even more accurately, we're just rooting against LeBron..

Like LeBron but they blew his taking his talents to South Beach reveal. Great player. Wade is still the Heat to me and I do like Bosch a lot.

Well, I'll be completely honest... I have a hard time getting excited about the NBA. It just doesn't feel like real "basketball" to me most of the time anymore.:confused3 I prefer to watch a competitive college or even HS basketball game.

Come on Andy. Its playoff time. Jump on the bandwagon.

After the last game, fans down here are in full panic mode. Spoelsta has to go right now. One idiot called in to a sport's talk show saying the Heat should trade Wade AND Bosch for Howard. S. Florida fans are idiots.

Hey guys...it was a full day at work so I didn't get to stop by so I'm checking in now.

Graduation day is tomorrow, so it addition to my classes with non-Seniors, I had to stop by the graduation practice to make sure everything was going smoothly and then it was working on grades to get everything finished up before Monday. We have a funky schedule, graduation is tomorrow, but final exams for non-Seniors are next week, so my last day of the school year will be next Friday.

DD was up throughout the night, then finally sick this morning about 15 minutes before our normal time to leave. Fortunately I was able to take her to my mom's house and leave her there today. Of course, around 11 when I got the phone call that she had spiked a fever and they needed me to bring her some medicine, it made for a rushed half-hour finding someone to cover my class, rush home, then run by my mom's house to drop off the meds.

But...when I got home, I was happy to find DS mowing the grass, which means he's off to his grass cutting job tomorrow morning instead of having done that this afternoon. He's about to leave to go to a friend's house and swim with his g/f and three other girl's. He was asked to go away with his g/f and her family for Memorial Day weekend, but we put the kibosh on that one, but I did offer to take him up there for a day if he'd like.

DW cut her finger at work the other day and checked in with her nurse today and finally agreed that it probably was infected so she stopped by the doctor's office on her way home where they confirmed it and put her on meds. She's now off to a friend's house for a Pampered Chef/Thirty-One/Stella and Dot/Mary Kay party.

Good advice and thanks. Having a vodka and tonic while watching American Graffiti. Ron Howard still had hair and Richard Dreyfuss looks like a 15 YO. Great movie.

Luca checked in. Hired him out other parents and he has already broken three kids hands. Going to make a fortune tonight.

I am so thankful that DD has an older DS that I can send out to keep an eye on her when that day comes around. Though, now that he's dating, DW is making it difficult for me to have a double standard for him and what trouble he might be getting into.

Popping on to say hi, prayers and congrats out to those who need/deserve them, no time to catch up right now....

Exhausted from work, long weekend is here and we got in 19 skids of stock to deal with after 15 yesterday, mostly due to glitches in the ordering system, way too much. Took two/three of us all day to process, lots of lifting/carrying etc, stiff and sore, but did rather well I'd say! Off to bed real soon but wanted to post a question:

We are looking at options for a beach in Florida next year, and are looking to avoid Daytona. We want a good family beach, with hotel/motel options (right on beach preferred), a little quieter, and a good beach for the girls to run around, look for shells etc, play in sand, wade in water etc, not TOO far from Disney, and not too expensive. I'm looking ar Cocoa Beach, New Symrna, Vero, etc, but would love to hear options

Le decision was Le stupid. Still, he is a terrific athlete and I enjoy watching him play. No pro teams in KY so I don't have that fan obsession.

The Prom Attending Pirate Princess is in the limo on the way to the big dance. I have Luca Brasi tailing them now. The date better not try anything..

I'm surprised you didn't go with her or at least have a spy cam in the limo with a remote shock wired into the seat.

Sorry to hear about DW and dd ailments. I'm sure your DS was sad about not getting to go away with his girlfriend. He probably had the same ideas that boy in a limo has right now.

We stayed in Vero in October (DVC) and it was terrific. Definitely a family beach with no overhead helicopters or cigarette butts on the beach like Panama City Beach. The beach is not as large as the others, given how they have the tree break setup, but it does have a green lawn where you can also check out games and play them. They have a pool with cool water slide and mini-golf for a few dollars right there. They also had the campfire, s'mores, pool games, and a resort scavenger hunt. There are also the paid excursions but we don't do those. There is a TS, QS, and bar at the resort, but my favorite was a dinner place in town, Ocean Grill (?) that served Florida lobster. I think it was about 2 hours southeast of WDW.

You didn't need the sun to be a redneck. :rotfl2: And, I had Little Caesar's pizza tonite as well. They have a new cheesy bread here (zesty Italian) that was good. I played tennis for the first time this year and sure am hurting. I forget how much exercise it was. A friend and I had played for an hour and then wives showed up with kids and went to get the pizza and we all ate outside at the park. By the time they returned, we had been played another 45 minutes. It was fun, but I am exhausted. I am going to bed. Good night all.

Tons of Beach options down the East Coast. St. Augustine is a historic area with nice beaches. Agree with staying away from Daytona. Overpriced. New Symrna is nice but not a favorite of mine. Vero is a bit south and around 2 hours from Disney. Your closest place to Disney and on the beach is Cocoa/Canaveral. Straight shot to Orlando (via toll road). Nice beach with lots of hotels either on or within a short walk to the beach. Kennedy Space Center is near there if it interests you. Lots of hotel options available.
