So DW just returned from dropping DD8 (a second grader) off at an overnight birthday party for a "new girl" in DD school. She walked in and found out that the girl is a fourth grader and most of the kids there were in 4th or 5th grade and the single mom in charge seemed overwhelmed already. DW made a VERY quick decision that DD would only be staying until 10:30. Fortunately DD didn't throw a tantrum so DW said it came off as though they had planned it before they got there.
She is feeling a bit guilty and second guessing that call. I'm giving her huge credit and.
What do you guys think? Would you have let your 2nd grader stay at an overnight of kids all 2-3 years older than her when she didn't really know any of them very well? Are we overreacting?
I don't think you and your DW are overreacting. I think something is fishy here. My DW thinks you might be overreacting slightly but agrees that something sounds weird having a 2nd grader with 4ht and 5th graders at an overnight party.
