Morning guys.

Jason, thanks for the reminder / heads up on the CO detectors. I'll be sure to check mine out tonight.

Rob, glad that you are in a better state today. There is much to be said for an afternoon away from the office to improve the soul.

Casey, very interesting perspecitve on the changing of the guard to your north. Hopefully Kim Jong Un doesn't have an inferiority complex that he need to work out.

Aaron (and any others) have a very Happy Hanukkah!

And in keeping with the spirit of the season:

Adam Sandler — The Chanuka Song

"Okay...
This is a song that uhh..
There's a lot of Christmas songs out there and uhh..
Not too many Chanukah songs.
So uhh..
I wrote a song for all those nice little Jewish kids who don't get to hear any Chanukah songs.
Here we go..."

Put on your yarmulke
Here comes Chanukah
So much funukah
To celebrate Chanukah
Chanukah is the festival of lights
Instead of one day of presents, we have eight crazy nights

When you feel like the only kid in town without a Christmas tree
Here's a list of people who are Jewish just like you and me
David Lee Roth lights the menorah
So do James Caan, Kirk Douglas, and the late Dinah Shore-ah

Guess who eats together at the Carnegie Deli
Bowser from Sha Na Na and Arthur Fonzerelli
Paul Newman's half Jewish, Goldie Hawn's half too
Put them together, what a fine lookin' Jew

You don't need "Deck The Halls" or "Jingle Bell Rock"
'Cause you can spin a dreidel with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock- both Jewish

Put on your yarmulke
It's time for Chanukah
The owner of the Seattle Supersonicahs
Celebrates Chanukah

O.J. Simpson, not a Jew
But guess who is? Hall of famer Rod Carew- he converted
We got Ann Landers and her sister Dear Abby
Harrison Ford's a quarter Jewish- not too shabby

Some people think that Ebenezer Scrooge is
Well he's not, but guess who is
All three Stooges
So many Jews are in showbiz
Tom Cruise isn't, but I heard his agent is

Tell your friend Veronica
It's time to celebrate Chanukah
I hope I get a harmonicah
Oh this lovely, lovely Chanukah
So drink your gin and tonicah
And smoke your marijuanikah
If you really, really wannakah
Have a happy, happy, happy, happy Chanukah
Happy Chanukah

To someone way smarter than I, do I need a CO detector? I do not have a basement.

You should because you still have a furnace. And if you have a garage attached to your house you should also.

Hey guys.

Is this where all the cool kids hang out? I feel like I've been away for a week, even though it's only been a few days. My TR is woefully behind, as is my reading of all of the ones I'm following along with. Life has been even more hectic than the frantically hectic pace it's been running at since the beginning of fall.
The new kitchen in almost done - we're still waiting to get the countertop delivered and installed. We've been using some 3/4 inch particle board I picked up for $15 each - or as I like to refer to it - white trash butcher block. Still have to put up crown molding on the cabinets and walls and baseboard on the floor, but those projects have been given a stay since She Who Must Be Obeyed has directed my efforts to the old kitchen and building that up into my DD's room. Lumber has been purchased to frame in a closet and door and I'm busy drawing blue prints for those.

The in-laws were up last week as well and we did Christmas with them. So in addition to all of the tools and remodeling mess, I've now got to avoid a bunch of new toys laying around. Add in Christmas shopping, the usual end-of-year BS at work, various holiday functions at the kids' schools, and all of the other everyday parenting duties, and I'm burning the candle at both ends and trying to light the middle.

Hopefully everyone is doing well. I'm about to craw under my desk for 20 minute power nap. If my boss asks where I am, tell her I'm in the Server Room taking inventory.

Oh, and one more thing. I haven't gone back to see if there were any good jokes cracked at my expense. If there were, please repost them here. Thanks.:thumbsup2

Just make sure you don't leave your alarm clock there, Costanza. We don't want to have to hear about the bomb squad being called in to an office in Wisconsin.:lmao:

A few of us had a chuckle over the Packers. Not sure if it was here or on FB. Keep swimming. Need pics of the projects.

Just something about you losing in Fantasy next weekend. :happytv: GB may actually prepare to play since 49ers won last night so Rodgers may return to championship form to knock out the local.

I hope things start to wind down for you. We'll cover for you while you nap :thumbsup2

Well, I read an article saying the NK shot off two short ranged missles on Monday (the day Kim Jong Il was announced as being dead), but, honestly, that's nothing really out of the ordinary.

In the almost 4 years I've lived in South Korea, North has done a couple feeble attempts at attacking us (the most prominent being last year and the year before, when they shelled a barely inhabited island in the northern Yellow Sea, and sinking a South Korean Navy ship, in the same sea), but none of those attempts started anything.

I suppose there's always been a bit of a threat that something will break out, but nothing ever really amounts to anything.

Although, I'm sure if there was a Korean equivalent of Fox News, there would be panic in the streets non-stop. (Granted, one of the major tv channels here is owned by the government, but they aren't overtly biased, as far as I can tell)

In other words, my wife and I aren't afraid that anything substantial will happen in the near future.

Glad to hear. Hope all stays that way through the transition.

You should because you still have a furnace. And if you have a garage attached to your house you should also.

That is unless you have an electric furnace.......

It's electric start with gas. My smoke detectors are hard wired with battery back-up and about 10 years old. It sounds like I need to add one and replace the others.

Started our free Netflix account today. I wanted to give it a try to see if we could lower our cable by suppelmenting this in place of about 200 channels we never watch. Anyone have good/bad opinions of Netflix? :confused3 I do like I can watch stuff on the iPad :thumbsup2

A friend really likes them here. He does the streaming in more than the mailing thing, although I haven't asked him about what i heard about the company trying to seperate the accounts (having a mail service seperate from stream). Anyway, he really likes the streaming stuff.

I used to have Netflix... canceled it this summer. Honestly, it is a great service, I loved the ability to stream, but I wasn't willing to pay more to have both streaming and DVD, and neither one alone was appealing enough to me to convince me to stay. If they actually get more, newer content for the streaming service, it would be great, but I wasn't willing to pay $10/month when, for the most part, there wasn't access to a lot of new releases.:confused3

I guess if you have a free trial, you'll get to see what's available and whether it's worth it to keep it around or not. The service works well though, have fun with it! :thumbsup2

We have been a Netflix member for many years now. LOVE IT. Love the ability to watch from my pc, xbox, wii and now some Blu-ray players and tv's directly. We also do the mail in ones as well. The only down side is the wait for new releases to come to streaming. They are usually take a month before they are available on mail in's but it is worth it.
They were going to charge you differently for streaming AND mail in services but they never went to that format as to many people left them so they changed thier minds.

Hurray for power naps. I hope things start to settle soon. If you just dip the entire wick in kerosene, it's all burn up in one glorious fireball, but then you won't have to deal with the silly candle anymore.

We use the streaming service a lot more than the mail in option. The ability to watch on most devices, iphone, ipad, kindle fire, xbox or tv is really nice. That being said I think I find it a better idea in concept than in execution. There is a lot of content on streaming, it just isn't a lot of the content I want to watch. At one point I think I read a study that the more options a person has, the less likely they are to be happy with what they pick. I think with the amount of content they have that physchological issue may be playing a part in my dissatisfaction with them.

Does anyone monitor the amount of downloading that Netflix uses when streaming?

I have steered away from Netflix, as my current internet bundle only offers 25 gigs per month, anything over and I am charged per gig, or I can move up to 60 gigs, but it's another $20 per month.

We are just using the streaming for now. We'll see how it goes. I thought about giving Apple TV a try, but will wait until I get a feel for Netflix.

Ryan - I agree about choices. We have 350 channels, and I can count on two hands how many of them I watch on a regular basis (8).

I read that as TV's become "smarter" that streaming choices will become more streamlined and easily tailored to ones likes. We'll have to wait and see how close they get. What I have seen so far from smart TV's has not impressed me.

What good is a smart tv if it's full of dumb programming?

That sounded more passive aggressive than I meant it to be... I think I'm just frustrated that technology seems to be all about making it easier for me to consume more content, when I really wish there would be a genuine focus on making more content that we want to consume. We've been having an ongoing discussion about technology and it's in ability to live up to expectations at my office recently. We want the Moller air car, but startups are working on the next twitter and angry birds knock offs. Shoot higher dang it.
