DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

Well, I have some good news to report today! I finally broke the 148 pound plateau!!!!!!!!! Only by one pound, but it's still a loss!! Woohoo!

I hope you all are feeling good about things!!!!!

WAY TO GO, GLYNIS!! :cool1:

Thanks, everyone! It does feel good! I had the opportunity to go to the high school where I used to teach tonight, to judge a drama competition. It was fun to see the reaction from people I hadn't seen in years. One said, "You have 4 children and you look like that?!" I took it as a compliment! It's fun to have other people notice! What a self-esteem booster!

OK – today was “weigh-in” here and I am DELIGHTED to report that I have met a personal goal this week… I have taken off 30 of the original 60 pounds I wanted to lose. You cannot imagine how excited I am (well, maybe you all can!) :thumbsup2

Everyone still working at this… keep it up. We can ALL do it! :cool1:

Congratulations!!!!!

That is a major milestone. It is nice to see that many of us are sticking with it and there is some great success.

I am working toward my goal of relosing the weight that I have put on last fall before May 1st. I've lost a couple of pounds by just giving up sweets and soda (I only drank diet anyway). I stuck too it for 2 weeks and wasn't too happy with the small amount that I lost so as of yesterday I'm back to low carb. I also went for a 1 1/2 mile walk last night with my dh. I know that exercise is the key, now my brain just needs to convence my body to do it

Keep up the good work.

Thanks, Deb :goodvibes

I have started walking the dog for about 1 1/4 miles every morning and doing some weight training with 8 pound dumbells in the evening while I am watching the news. I agree that the increased exercise really helps a lot. I bet you will soon see a big difference. Keep it up! :thumbsup2

Great job Elin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We all just have to keep going & keep encouraging each other.
I stayed the same this week, but am not too disappointed with that as I have a UTI & feel kinda yucky & know I am retaining water. I finally got my Firm stuff & have done that twice now & walked twice this week. So, I am finally making some progress in the weight loss dept.

Keep going everybody!!!! We can do it!!!!!

Overall, and considering all that is going on, you had a great week, Melanie. Keep it up!

Anyone heard from Glynis lately?

I sent her a PM yesterday, but haven't gotten a response yet. I hope everything is ok.

I also sent her a pm yesterday. Hopefully, the kids are just keeping her busy with regular kid stuff!

Hooray, Elin!!!! That's a wonderful feeling, isn't it?

You're right, we CAN do it. And we are: together!

Deb, I can't find my low carb bbq sauce recipe. I'm going to keep looking though. Just didn't want you to think I'd forgotten.

I had a great low carb meal last night: Turkey Picadillo. It was so yummy! I was sorry that I can't eat much, since it was so good I could have eaten the whole pot!

Ok DDA weight loss folks...

Now that it's April, who all is REALLY going to do the WDW half, full or something that weekend?

I'd love to know so I can keep track. I would really like to do PMs or something on a regular basis specifically about exercising and training for that event, so I'd love to know who all is really still going for it now that we should really be getting signed up! :rolleyes1

PM me or respond here, please, and let me know if you are a go! :)

Jennifer, I am definitely going to do the 1/2 along with my DH and my 2 DS's who will be 18 and 21 by then. DH and I along with DS17 will be walking, DS20 plans on running. We will be staying at BCV renting DVC points. DH and I will be staying Jan 4 - 13. DS's will only be staying Jan 4 -7, as they both have to start back to college on Jan 8th.

I sent in our registrations and paid this past week, and have already reserved the room and paid 50% down, so we are definitely going. I have been walking 4 -6 days per week. I just need to get my pace a little faster, as I don't want to get "swept" The most we (DH and I) have done is 5 miles at about a 15:10 pace according to my Garmin Forerunner. Both my DS's are in pretty good shape, but I will be bugging them to train specifically for this at 14 weeks out, following John Bingham's training plans from Marathoning for Mortals. DS 20 ran cross country in high school, and currently plays water polo for Georgia Tech, so he stays in pretty good shape. DS17 works out at the Y but is not a runner and is not in as good of shape so hopefully he will at least train to walk it.

Hope that helps. Let me know what your plans are.

Yay! I'm glad to see you're definitely going to do it. I just registered Kyle and I online, so it's a go as long as we can make it down there! I'm not booking anything yet, as there's a lot up in the air. We both start new jobs in June so I'm thinking it would just literally be for the weekend, which is a bummer! I also don't know if we will be using DVC points or getting a hotel room, so hopefully all of that will fall into place soon!

Like I said though, if we can get off work we'll be there -- and that really shouldn't be a problem, we just have to get it in motion!

I haven't been good about posting and keeping up with this thread -- I have a hard enough time keeping up with the main DDA one, but I wanted to share something with you. I went to my annual ob/gyn check-up on Monday. When I walked in, his long-time nurse mentioned how good I look. After I was weighed, I asked how much I weighed last year. I had lost 10 pounds. Nothing as wonderful as Glynis or Ellen, but I was so happy. One of the differences is that I didn't let myself gain my "winter" weight this year, plus I've kept off the 35 pounds I lost through WW.

Deb -- thank you so much for starting this thread, and to ALL of you who are regular posters. It has made a real difference for me. Even though I haven't posted or kept up as much as I would like, it's always in the back of my mind when I have time to lurk. You guys have been great inspirations for me and I thank you!

Now, I still have to lose the other 12 pounds to get to goal, but I'm feeling good about it all right now. (Of course, the ulcers in my mouth and down my throat have really kept me from eating much the last few days.....)

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! I couldn't have done it without your support. :sunny:

:wizard: that you can get the time off of work! It would definitely be fun to meet up with some DDA'ers!

Is there anyone else who is definitely planning to do the 1/2 marathon in January?

First off, congratulations on the weight loss! That is great.

Secondly, don't downplay your accomplishments, as I know it is very hard to lose weight and/or maintain weight loss, and what you've done is wonderful.

Lastly, I actually think you mean Elin, rather than me (Ellen) although I am very happy with my almost 15# weight loss, Elin has lost over 30.

Congratulations again! and it is great to have this support group isn't it?

DH and I are a definite go! We've already registered and paid our fees. Now we're working on where to stay. We've talked my BIL and my SIL into going with us so we're trying to find a condo or something off site (gasp) to rent that might be cheaper than a resort. Any ideas? Having never been to Orlando, I really don't know anything about it. I would love any help.

Ellen,

Would you mind passing along the training plans from John Bingham? I've been following the plan that Karen sent along a long time ago, but I feel like I need something else. Is Marathoning for Mortals a book? I feel good about things, as I've brought me speed to just over a 16 minute mile since January, so I think I'm on track with the speed thing. I just need to continue to build up endurance.

Thanks!
