DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

Here's the next in my successes of low carb dishes.

Steak Diane

4 sirloin steaks
2 tsp. lemon pepper
2 Tbs. butter
2 Tbs. lemon juice
1 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. Dijon mustard
1 Tbs. minced parsley

Sprinkle surfaces of steaks with lemon pepper. Heat butter in heavy skillet, cook steaks 3-4 minutes on each side. Remove steaks to serving platter, keep warm. Add lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard to skillet. Cook, stirring with pan juices, until heated through. Pour sauce over steaks, sprinkle with parsley and serve.

Calories - 309
Fat - 26 grams (75% calories from fat)
Carbs - 2 grams

The kids liked the steaks, but didn't like the sauce. I thought the sauce was tangy and wonderful over the steaks. Go figure.

Tuesdays are weigh-in day for me at Weight Watchers & I am down 2.5 lbs this week. I'm doing the happy dance. I figured I would be up after our short trip to Disney-but I made pretty good decisions-I ate fish 4 nights in a row (different kinds of course).

Hope everyone else is having a great week.
Here's a motivational statement from Weight Watchers 101 secrets for success. "Remember--losing "ONLY" one pound a week adds up to 52 pounds a year."

Good morning DDA'ers. I'm feeling great this morning! I'm down 3 pounds during this last week, and feel like my workouts are accomplishing something.

For some more news, DH and I registered for the half marathon! We are paid up and raring to go! Well, it's set in stone now! I am loving the training schedule karebear1 sent along! I've shaved a minute and a half of my mile, so I'm feeling awfully good about things. DH even wants to do a practice marathon this summer here in Utah. It's not really a marathon, just a 5K (is that right?), so it should give us some good practice! I'm so excited!

How is everyone else doing?

Glynis,

That is so exciting that you signed up. For some reason I can't bring myself to sign up yet, even though I am making arrangements to rent DVC points and reserving a room at the Beach Club Villas, and have every intention of doing the 1/2 marathon with DH. I think I am afraid I won't be able to get fast enough. I have done the training schedule from karebear1 no problem, but my speed would never make the pace. So I think I am waiting to see if I do get faster over the next couple of months before I sign up. But I am committed to continuing the training plan.

My treadmill is at a 3% incline, so I assume if I were walking on flat ground I might be able to go a little faster?

Oh well, I'll keep trying and see if my pace improves, it really hasn't yet though.

I will hopefully enter a 5K this summer too, for practice.

You are doing great!

Hey guys--
i need someone to yell at me! i am having the HARDEST time getting back into the swing of things....i told myself last night that i would start working out again today and im being lazy--i just cant get myself to go in the basement and work out and i just keep eying up the junk...i dont know what to do

I am impressed by so many of you. I can not motivate myself to exercise. It is so cold outside that we can't walk outside and Colby and I haven't felt well, now Nick is complaining of a stomach ache. These are not very good excuses. I need to get my butt in gear. The diet is really pretty easy and I'm right on track, but not seeing much movement on the scales as I am not exercising.

Ellen, give yourself some credit. It's only January, after all! You've got oodles and gobs of time to get your speed where it needs to be. I started out on Jan. 1 with a speed of 2.1 and an incline of 1%. Week by week I've been upping the speed just a touch, and today I increased the incline to 3%. It's amazing to see that I can bring the speed up, and really not have it affect my breathing. Of course, I'm nowhere near where I need to be, but I'm determined to do the best that I can. No one can ask more of us than that! Even if I do get swept in the half, I'll be so much farther along than I was just last year (picture a sedentary lump on the couch). I won't feel badly if I don't finish, it will just make me all the more determined to sign up again and try again.

My greatest motivator is the money it costs to sign up! I would hate to pay that, and then not participate.

I think we are all doing well! Let's celebrate the small victories!

Jen, don't give up! Just talk yourself into going down into the basement! You can do it! I know what you mean about the junk, though. Is there any way you can get rid of it without eating it? Do the best that you can. No one can ask more of you than that. :flower3:

I have to be honest, I have never been one for exercise either. I think what is working for me right now is having a plan and having a goal. The plan that Karebear1 gave us for training for the half marathon has specific targets for walking on certain days. So far it hasn't been anything over 35 minutes, so it's doable since I have the treadmill for the days when I can't walk outside.

In the past, when I just told myself I need to exercise, I would keep putting it off. There was no accountability. Now I have a chart with the goal for each day, and then I fill in the actual minutes I walk. I am also keeping track of the total miles I've walked. I wanted to have a goal of walking enough miles to get to WDW by next January. Well, I looked it up, and I live 1273 miles from WDW. I will need to walk 24 miles a week for 52 weeks to make it. Let's just say I'm behind right now and it may not be an achievable goal, but I am going to keep the goal on my chart. We'll see what happens.

I know you aren't planning to do the 1/2 marathon, but maybe if you could follow the plan and train to do like a 5K this summer, that would give you a goal to work toward. I know the goal is what keeps me going.

If you don't have a treadmill, then it would be hard because sometimes it is too icy to walk, not to even mention how I hate the cold. I haven't tried them, but I was thinking about renting a Walk Away the Pounds video to see if that would be something I could do to change up the routine. Has anyone here done those? I would love to hear what you think.

Another thing that works is if you find a friend to meet somewhere to exercise, even walk the mall if you have one nearby. At weight watchers they taught us that you are much more likely to let yourself down than you would be to let someone else down, so if someone is expecting you to meet them you will be more likely to go. Does that make sense?

Well, I hope I've helped some.

Hey guys!

Walking in a 5K is a great start- My DH and I did that and it gave us both a good taste of what happens in one of these races. Glynis- Please let me know if you find one in SLC- my DH Jim and I could fly down to SLC and walk it with you! Wouldn't that be fun?!?!? Ellenbenny- Please be patient with yourself! It will all come in good time- PROMISE! If you are becoming somewhat intolerant of your speed (or lack thereof), pick some fun songs you love- tape/record them and walk to them- It makes you're walking go faster- and your speed go faster as well. Walk to the beat! There are all kinds of professional walking tapes out there- just google it and you'll see! They start out with a slower song , speed up and slow back down again for a cool down. They have them for beginners, inetrmediates and so on. Start with the beginner tape- then buy the next when you feel ready to jump up. PLEASE, please, please, be patient with yourselves- in 2 months you're not gonn a believe what you can do!

See, I'm impressed by all those dieting! I guess certain things stick with us better than others..... too bad we can't seem to get on BOTH tracks! :confused3

I will totally let you know what I find out about 5K's. I think there's one on the 24th of July. My neighbor runs marathons so I'll ask her what she thinks would be good. How fun if you could come down.

Now Just do it!!!!
Get a partner!!!
Get Movin'!!!
It is getting late and I am out of cliche's!!! :rotfl2:

Ok. I got up this morning and gave myself a kick in the *ss. I made myself do the 1 mile WATP tape which took about 15 minutes then I did situps and push ups. I feel so good knowing that I got it overwith. I need to do this everyday. I also logged on to the Discovery Health Challenge. Their diet plan does not work for me and really neither does the exercise. When I put in my starting weight and heigt it said that I needed to lose 12 lbs which would put me at 142. I was surprised as I maintained at 143 for a couple of years and still looked heavy. If that is true I would only need to lose 5 more lbs. I am really hoping to lose more than that and tone too. I hope everyone finds the motivation that they need to stick with the diet and exercise for today. One day at a time.

Deb

Deb- I always like getting up and getting my workouts done for the day. I find if I don't get them done first thing, then they don;t get done! Thus explaining why i haven't been riding the wagon lately! I gotta get back into the swing. It's just so hard! I'm like a one thing at a time person. Give me one big thing to concentrate on at a time and I can do it- give me more and I die! I'm now working (been a SAHM for 25 years) and it's taking eveything out of me! I only work about 20 hrs a week, but it's everyday and just seeme s to throw my schedule off. I'll NEVER understand how women that have children at home and work do it!! ANyway- I'm waiting for my Nutrisystems to come in the mail and then I'm going at it full paced.... I hope! I honestly think I juts have too much going on.... and then the thought of moving this summer is just slowing it down even more!

Anyway- GOOD FOR YOU FOR GETTING IT DONE THIS MORNING!!! I'm proud of you girlie!

...since I have not for a while. I started my NutriSystem program on Monday and LOVE it! I have had no trouble with cravings so far and have managed to squeeze in 15 minutes of exercise a day since January 1. I have lost 4.5 pounds and am hoping now that I have a bona fide diet plan the weight will come off more rapidly.

The months of January and February are brutal at work for me. I work 14-16 hour days including the time I am working at home these two months. I have 84 students participating in Junior Music Festival at the end of February and 18 of them are performing piano concerti. I am the "orchestra" for those performers so I have to practice too! In addition to that, I have 93 students submitting compositions for ajudication on the state level this week so I am editing and double checking that everything is reight with those. So, if you don't see me much, or I don't post, please know that I am here and I am participating. I am so proud of all of us and our "stick-to-itiveness."

Goal - 60 lbs
Progress - 4.5 lbs

I have lost 5 pounds since the 1st of the year. However, I still haven't started exercising which is the part I really need to get done. Is anyone willing to be my buddy that is willing to check on me frequently (min. three times a week)? I'd be willing to return the favor or pass it on. This site helps but I have a tendency to let too many days go by before I tell someone I need help.

I started working on my weight at the end of October. I've lost 17 pounds by cutting back on my pepsi (80-100 oz. per day down to less than 24) daily. I started taking my multi-vitamin, calcium & iron daily with a glass of orange juice daily (I haven't had fruit or juice regularly in 20 years). I park farther from wherever I'm going so that I have to walk. I walk the stairs if it is less than 5 flights. Most importantly, I try to eat breakfast every morning.

I need to start exercising, drink 80 oz. water daily, and get my fruits & vegetables daily. I'm thinking about training for the half marathon even though it doesn't look like I'll be able to attend.

Well, because I was doing so well, I stopped taking my vitamins daily and eating breakfast almost a week ago. Bad, bad, bad! I started again this morning. I also asked my DH for help - a first for me. I tend to feel like he is nagging (even when I ask him to help).

A pm whatever three days of the week work best for you. I know that if I have someone asking me "What have you done? What did you want to do? What are your plans?" that I'll do better at following through. Thanks so much!!!!!!!

I'm adding 20 oz. of water per day starting today (to increase later) and want to exercise three days a week for 30 minutes each time (also to increase later).
