DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

I'm finally home for awhile and can get posting here. I AM IN!! I had posted on the Wish thread for awhile over a year ago and was doing a decent job. I was even down to 189 last spring, but somehow gained back a lot of what I had lost. I am excited to be a part of this thread since I "know" so many of you already.

My goal is to lose 70 pounds.

My plan - planning and actually cooking dinner 6 nights a week. Additionally, I need to kick the McGriddle habit. I don't eat much other fast food, but I do have a McGriddle an average of 5 mornings a week. I also need to do more cardio exercising. I walk about 1.5 miles to work and again coming home if I don't take the bus or subway to of from the commuter rail. However that doesn't seem to be helping the weight loss. I want to add some more aerobic exercise to the mix and plan to check out the free choices on Comcast's OnDemand.

Kate - I really like the idea of a group exercise time as a motivational tool. The 9:30 works well for me too.

ksoehrlein - I am interested in checking out the challenge info as well and sent you a PM

Does anyone know of a good online site to track food, weight, exercise, etc that is free, or at the very least not too expensive?

Thanks I am going to look at fitday.

It seems so unfair that the last 30 minutes (or really the whole afternoon) I spent picking up, doing laundry and cooking for my family of 5 doesn't burn about a jillion calories!!!!!! GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

It burned calories. Not a jillion. It is better than sitting on the couch eating bon bons.

Welcome to this thread Nancy.

Discovery Health Channel has announced that they are doing their National Body Challenge again this year. DH and I stumbled onto a weigh in at our mall last January, and the program helped motivate us for quite a while (until our February WDW trip when we ate a little too well!). Anyway, it includes freebies (like trial membership at Bally's, online meal and exercise tracker and sweepstakes) and provides yet one more place to be held accountable. This year, you can set up groups of friends -- so I started one called Disney Design Addicts.

If you send me your e-mail address and first and last names (PM me or e-mail), I will send you the official invite to sign up as part of the DDA group. GO TEAM! :cheer2:

Thanks Karen! I am all signed up now. How do I access our group and what exactly does it mean to be a group? Thanks for doing that. They have some great tools on thier site.

You're welcome, Nancy, but my name is actually Kim. It took me a minute -- I was thinking, "Who's Karen?" :confused3 Welcome to our group!

I'm still not sure what it means to be a group; I just saw a bandwagon and jumped on. Lots of functionality doesn't go into effect on the site until mid-January. Looks like we can each log on, track our losses, and then we'll have a total for the group. I wonder how long it will take until the DDA group loses 100 pounds?

Kate, I'm still trying to send you the invite, but the site is acting funny on my PC (can't get a scroll bar and can't click on Send as a result). I'll try again in a little bit on my Mac.

Looks like we've got support systems popping up everywhere. I am so excited to get started, although I find myself searching out foods that I know I will not be eating after Saturday. At this rate I'll gain weight getting ready to lose it :rotfl2: .

I just PMed you about this too!

I just PMed Kim too. I am in! The 9:30 p.m. exercise time put me over the edge. I get home from work about 9:15 every night so that is perfect for my schedule. I would like to lose 60 pounds. Having all my DDA friends to do this with ought to help a lot. Thanks!! :)

I have already lost about 15 pounds since school started in September by doing two simple things. I started eating my big meal at lunch time instead of when I get home at night. My teaching schedule just does not lend itself to normal eating habits so I have changed mine to fit what is normal for me. Seems to be working so far. That, plus I have cut out 99.9% of all sodas. I used to have a Coke every day/night as I taught. Now I take a bottle of water instead and it seems to work as well. If I could keep this up and add exercise to the mix I know, with your support, I could do this!

Elin, Good for you! I hope we can get this going and keep it going too! I am off to the grocery to stock up on Healthy food!

Happy New Year to all my "BIG LOSER" Friends!! :rotfl2:

Sending lots of :wizard: amd Good Luck!

Nancy

I am also off to the store to purchase nutricious stuff for my whole family. I'm approaching this as a lifestyle change. It will be good to teach my kids the proper way to eat/drink. I plan to post my starting weight tonight. My last weight of the year and hopefully my highest weight.

Deb

Well, this is it. I'm going to really work on my weight. :cheer2:

With all of your help I can do it... :flower:

My first goal is to have my weight begin with the number 1. :earboy2:

I will weigh myself as soon as I get out of the shower. (yes, it is 1:16 in the afternoon and I have been in my pjs all day.)

Happy New Year!

I hope there will be less of you all posting next week. (Of course less as in SIZE not the amount of people!!!) :cheer2: :cheer2:

I have not experienced the gym right after work. I just assumed (oh that's bad!) that it was crowded. But I'm going to try it and see. What I plan to do is change into my workout gear before I leave work. Then head straight to the gym, workout and then come home and eat a light dinner.

I also plan on going to Costco right now, and getting a case of water. I will number the bottles and make sure I drink 4 16oz bottles each day. Water really helps me. :cloud9:

My DD, who has already lost 20 pounds this year, just came back from the grocer with veggies and fruit. I bought two 12 packs of Diet Cherry Coke and Diet Bart's Rootbeer. So I have my drinks....

I have a plan. Now to execute it. I can do it, I can do it! :Pinkbounc

I went to Kohls today and bought a new scale so that i use the same one every time i weigh myself--I didnt have a scale so i used my moms or grandmoms, depending each time. This way, i have my scale to weigh in on and dont have to worry about the fluctuation...
Tomorrow morning, i will weigh myself and make that my starting weight for this...
This time next year, we all will weigh alot less!! :)

Well January 1, 2006 is here. I am so ready, didn't even drink alcohol last night. I weighed in at 154 lbs which was a gain of 11 lbs since September. I did the grocery shopping, bought lots of flavored water and all our Atkins staples. Chris has committed to go through this with me and the kids are going to learn to eat better whether they like it or not. So here is my resolution:

I resolve to stick to my diet plan, do at least 10 minutes of exercise every day and to cut back on soda, even diet soda. I know that besides not exercising sweets and sodas are my down fall. I am giving myself one month to lose the 11 lbs that I have recently gained then I resolve to continue until I lose more of the hard to lose weight.

Deb

Hi, my name is Chris. I am Deb (my4princes) husband. I am joining Deb and our boys is a healthier 2006. I will be doing atkins and promise to exercise 10 minutes each day. I will weigh myself later this morning.

Chris
