DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

I got a treadmill for Christmas!!!! Yeah Me!!!! I actually asked for one and my DH gave me a really nice one. So far since Christmas Day......2 days in a row......I have walked 1 mile with a #3 incline at 2.5 mph for a total time of 25 minutes. That includes my warm and cool down. I had heard at one time that ask long as you keep your heart rate up for 20 minutes then you are burning calories. I usually do my walking as soon as I roll out of bed but doing more in the evenings with ya'll will defenitely work. Let's pick a time......it would have to anytime after 8:30pm.....let me know.

Discovery Health Channel has announced that they are doing their National Body Challenge again this year. DH and I stumbled onto a weigh in at our mall last January, and the program helped motivate us for quite a while (until our February WDW trip when we ate a little too well!). Anyway, it includes freebies (like trial membership at Bally's, online meal and exercise tracker and sweepstakes) and provides yet one more place to be held accountable. This year, you can set up groups of friends -- so I started one called Disney Design Addicts.

If you send me your e-mail address and first and last names (PM me or e-mail), I will send you the official invite to sign up as part of the DDA group. GO TEAM! :cheer2:

Lynn, 8:30 is my children's bedtime, so I was excited to read your post. Anytime after 8:30 is my ideal workout time, too. Then I realized that I'm in Central Time Zone and you (and lots of other DDAs) are Eastern. Drat.

DH has a Bowflex in the basement. Last January when we did the Discovery Challenge, we would work out on that together (he's a great "gym buddy" ) and then I would take the dog for a walk through our uphill-both-ways neighborhood. I'd like to start that again -- and it would be great to know I wouldn't have too many DDA posts to catch up with if lots of you were working out around the same time!

I just wanted to ask you guys soemthing

on our new diets - do you think that caramel popcorn and chocolate covered pretzels would still be an acceptable breakfast?? :rotfl2:

Only between Thanksgiving and New Year's.

I had chocolate-covered strawberries from Godiva for my breakfast. (Unlike some DDAs, my DH knows exactly what to get me for Christmas!)

Anything is allowed in moderation.....probably 2 pretzels and 1/4 cup of caramel popcorn would be o.k. Don't worry.....I am not going to ask how much you had.
In my WW meetings in the past our mottot was
"BITE IT....WRITE IT"

Well, DH got me a pedometer in my stocking this year, so I'm excited to start up my exercise program. Walking is what the doctor ordered for me, with strength training in a couple of months. I'm gearing up and ready to go. I just found out that if I walk around my circle once, it's a quarter of a mile. That makes calculating things easier. Too bad it's not warmer. Until it warms up, I guess I'll do the treadmill thing. I'd rather be outside. Can't wait for spring.

I'm really hopeful that being accountable to you all will help me out. I kind of indulged the last couple of days. I made clam dip for Christmas Eve, and it's full of things that I CAN have, unfortunately, all the things I like to dip into it are things I can NOT have. I did find that I could fit quite a bit of dip onto a small pretzel stick. I confined myself to 6 sticks per day, and luckily DH finished up the dip last night. Whew! It was hard to stick to 6.

Glynis,

When I was power walking (a lot of years ago) :rotfl: I would walk in any kind of weather, except ice. I would go out first thing in the morning and at one point I was up to 4.5 miles in an hour. But that was back in 1986 and 1987 and 1988 until my first car accident when I started with all the back problems. I would love to get back to walking.

I have been considering doing the Three Day walk for Breast Cancer in Philadelphia. But I am not sure if I am going to do it or not as it is a major commitment. You have to raise $2200, plus there is a registration fee on top of that. It would be a good experience, just not sure if it is right for me at this time.

I have some friends from another online community that are doing that.

This is so weird! I dreamt all night long of doing a "walk - a - thon" here in Utah on July 24. Must be my subconsious mind telling me to get off my keister and do something.

Just sent you a PM. I am in. The more motivation the better.

How about white cake with chocolate frosting and a diet coke?

i started thinking about why i usually fail when i try to lose weight--i definitely just give up because i have no one to be accountable to! Today, my best friend came over and we worked out for about an hour..it felt great--now i gotta get myself to start doing that more-and consistently!
I tend to make excuses alot and i need to stop that--i have neck problems and while exercising can make it hurt if i do too much, thats not an excuse..

DH just asked me if I had signed him up yet. I said that he needs his own Username and he is responsible for being accountable to all of you on his own. Looks like the DIS and DDA will officially have a new member. We both do much better with weight loss when we work together. This time it will be a lifestyle change for our whole family. Our Pediatrician said that we need to keep an eye on ds10 and ds3 as they have the potential to be overweight (although they aren't yet). I'm hoping that if we make healthy choices as a family we will all be more fit.

I know myself too well, so all I am offering is moral support. However, I would love it if 10 pounds would just melt away. I do belong to Curves but haven't been in forever. Now that life should settle down a little I am going to try to get started there again.

I am in...I don't post here alot but Kate ( my sis in real life :rotfl2: ) told me about this post. I am in! I would like to lose 30 lbs!

My plan is the no white diet. I will drink my water and walk everyday. I have a treadmill or can walk outside as I live in the South. I also have a few good workout videos I will try.

Finally, how about exercising at 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time nightly? That way our central friends still have chance to get their kids to bed? Was that a 10 minute commitment or 30? I like this idea!

Thanks all!! GOOD LUCK!!!!! :wizard:

I think that the 9:30 PM will work for a lot of people. A couple of nights per week I will be working at that time, but I really hope to exercise in the AM so I support the 9:30 PM time.

Princess Nancy. Good to hear from you again. Welcome to our support group.

Sounds good to me.

I will also be working on the no white food diet. More like SB and less like Atkins. The only caveat to the while food is the low carb cheesecake. That is the best breakfast ever.

I have the WATP DVDs and my treadmill. I should be good to go.

I started yesterday with watching what i eat and exercising...after exercising yesterday and today i can definitely feel it--and its a great feeling! i weighed in yesterday at 149..so im going to make that my "start weight" and make my "goal weight" for now be 140--hopefuly more than that, but well start there
