Actually guys, our packing woes just got worse... American is starting to charge for the first checked bag as well. I'm sure Chanon will have more insight in to this. I found out about it because we had called our corporate TA to make a change to Merrie's flight today.

The following customers will not be charged a service fee to check a bag provided the bag is within the weight allowance:

For the first checked bag, customers who buy a ticket before June 15, 2008, or who fly before June 15, 2008
For the second checked bag, customers who purchased a ticket before May 12, 2008
Customers traveling on an international itinerary to destinations beyond the U.S., the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, or Canada
Customers who purchase full-fare tickets in Economy Class
Customers who purchase Business or First Class tickets
Customers flying on AA codeshare flights not operated by American Airlines, American Eagle or AmericanConnection®
Customers traveling on government or military fares
Military passengers on active duty
AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum® or AAdvantage Gold® members
oneworld Alliance Emerald, Sapphire or Ruby members
Customers flying on the same reservation as an AAdvantage Executive Platinum, AAdvantage Platinum or AAdvantage Gold member or oneworld Alliance Emerald, Sapphire or Ruby member regardless of frequent flier status or fare type (not applicable to group bookings)
AAnytime® Economy Class AAdvantage award tickets, MileSAAver(SM) or AAnytime First and Business Class AAdvantage award tickets
First and Business Class upgrades confirmed prior to check in

Oh that is just ABSURD! I'm with Elizabeth and think we all need at least 2 checked bags, but to charge someone for bringing a single piece of luggage with them on.... a trip?! That's ridiculous!

Do you know a price? We never fly American, but if this is the way things are going, it might get cheaper to ship everything ahead that doesn't fit in a carry-on! :sad2:

I HATE AMERICAN AIRLINES.

That really didn't make me feel that much better.

I'm headed home! :yay: A few extra restrictions, but otherwise we'll just watch (even more) closely and wait.

Details on the site, I have to turn this computer off before it dies, and get it put away before my ride gets here so I can get some edible food! :goodvibes

I am so glad to read this, Jennifer! I signed on here just long enough to see how you were doing. :thumbsup2

Glynis, how is Alan's ankle?

ETA: I'm glad to see it isn't broken, at least! Did he get to take meds once he got home? I sure hope so, that DOES sound painful! :wizard:

Well, the ankle is swollen and pretty black. He did take some pain meds when he got home last night and fell asleep on the couch. He was going to take the day off today, but we got hit with a heavy rainstorm, which has caused most of the streams and rivers here to flood. They were already at maximum capacity due to the spring runoff, and this sent them over the banks. Alan was sent up in the helicopter where he could sit and man the camera instead of having to walk around carrying it. Thank heaven for small favors.

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: stay in there a bit longer princesses!!

Poor Alan:hug:

I just checked my bank account & the fraudulent charge has been put back into my account :cool1:

Now I am just waiting for a new card :thumbsup2

Yay!! :cool1:

Janet - your new siggy looks neat!

Marci - What is it about sports parents??? They can be so nasty. And you were right when you told Jake that the children who observe that horrible behavior will mimic it. That is how the parents of todya got to be so nasty in the first place, probably! Hope the rest of the games go a little better!

Janet - I like your new siggie!

Marci - Sorry about the rude parents!

Elizabeth - I thought the same thing too about the bags. What about those that are grandfathered? I'll have to start watching the wait times on MCO's website for a while now... I'm not sure (though I haven't really tried yet!) to pack everything in one bag!

Apparently resort check-in doesn't want to fool with sorting out who owes fees and who doesn't.

Well I need to get moving myself. Elizabeth I feel your dread, I have a dentist appointment as well & then I am off to work.

Have a great day all!

I hope your appt. was better than mine! The tooth I have been under the impression was crowned IS A NATURAL TOOTH! It feels like the filling fell out because IT DID! So my old dentist is a huge, fraudulent QUACK! They charged me for a crown on that tooth. My current dentist showed me the x-ray - that tooth is NOT crowned. I go back next week to have him work on it. It needs a crown but I am not in the mood to do that just now.

Oh that is just ABSURD! I'm with Elizabeth and think we all need at least 2 checked bags, but to charge someone for bringing a single piece of luggage with them on.... a trip?! That's ridiculous!

HOLY COW! :headache: That means resort check-in won't be an option for us in the future because we always fly American or SW, and we ALWAYS have checked bags unless we're going for 3 or 4 days. Great.

Jennifer - Glad you are going home!

Nordstrom had some OK stuff. Dillard's had 75% off boys' Polo so I bought a BUNCH of shirts for DS for $60. He can pick out the ones he wants to keep and I'll return the others.

What a relief!

::yes:: Especially had they wanted me to do this a couple more days and then deliver. I'm thinking that would have been horrendous, and they would have HAD to let me get some sleep before having to take care of two preterm infants! :faint:

That's right! It's tough enough taking care of one new baby. 2, who are preemies, and you really need your sleep!!! I was so grateful to have had a c-section which meant 5 days of recovery in the hospital. They asked if I wanted to have the babies room with me once they were out of NICU, and I said, "ABSOLUTELY NOT!" I needed that time to sleep. They were brought to me when they were hungry, and when I called for them, and that was enough for me. As it was, I was still exhausted when we brought them home, but it was manageable!

You know, I just had an "Ah-ha!" moment. I knew there was a scale at he resorts to weigh bags that they think look heavy. They have weighed mine before, but it always comes in under the limit. I ASSUMED they made you pay there at the resort, but if your bag is over I bet they won't let you check it! They make you take it to the airport and check it yourself. Hmm.

My cruise documents have arrived...guess the trip is really happening!!

Elizabeth...come help me pack! :)

Jennifer I'm glad your heading home. Please stay extra still and keep those little girls safe

Glynis I'm sorry that Alan had to work. I'm sure he is not in the mood for it.

Kristine :cool1: :cool1: Get packing girl. You are going to have so much fun.

As far as the airline charging for one bag... That is absurd. Everyone needs a bag, what is the point of traveling. They won't let us fly nude (a lady got kicked off for way more clothes than nude) :confused3 Our country is in a fine state. With gas and oil prices as well as the cost of food and now the airlines are charging gas surcharges and for all bags :confused3 Apparently we all need to be hermits and stay home all the time, living off our own land like our ancestors did :confused3

Today has gone well. Colby made huge strides as his very first speech session. He learned to make the K sound and can now clearly say his name. His therapist was so surprised by his progress and I was so happy I may have shed a couple of tears.

The rain held off for the field trip. I wasn't prepared to hike through the woods to get to the brook. I thought we would walk the road. The croc sandals I wore were not the best choice for the woods. Non the less the kids behaved well and got all the data that they needed.

Dinner is in the oven so we're making progress and may even get to the concert on time :cool1:

There are quite a few threads about the bag thing. Everyone agrees that now people will be cramming their carry-ons full to bursting so they can avoid all the excess fees. Perfect. Now the overhead bins will dislodge in flight and fall on us because they will be so HEAVY!

My mom actually knows a lady who was hit in the head by a falling overhead bin (the plane crashed). The woman had permanent damage to her brain and neck. I guess it is better than DYING in the crash, but obviously the bins aren't part of the wall of the plane - they are bolted on and can come off in the right circumstances. :scared:

I'm so glad I'm flying Saturday.

Yippee!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all...I've read along today just haven't had much time to post.

Jennifer- I am happy to hear you are headed home for now.

Glynis- Sorry that Alan got called into work.

Deb- Loved the pics of your guys'. They are a handsome bunch.

We are to have a parent meeting with the president of the club tomorrow at practice. The other team and parents are to be there as well. We are told that if we can agree to put this behind us than all will be forgiven. I have a feeling it won't be that simple. So if you have some good thoughts to spare I'd appreciate it.

I am headed out this evening with my girlfriend. We are going to a "Quarter Auction". I am looking forward to the night out by myself. Eric and Emma have soccer practice and my MIL is watching Mo and Lucy.

Have a great evening!:goodvibes
