DDA Chapter 7

I am trying to design a shirt for Miles' birthday tomorrow. Then I need to go bake a ton of cupcakes and a chocolate cake. I also have to make his birthday sign and wrap gifts.

I have a long list of things to pack and get ready for the weekend and a longer list of things I need to do for the end of the year at preschool.

So, please ask me if my lists are completed if I get back on here. I really need to get these things done instead of procrastinating!

Well, if the ressie for this August was configured a little different I could probably work it out to use all of the points. The problem is by the time I figure out what I am doing with the stupid hotel portion there probably won't be anything available on points. If the AP rate is crummy (or unavailable) I guess I can try to add more nights using points and add DxDDP to the DVC nights, but that really complicates things. And it eats up a lot of points because the first nights we would need to add with points are Sat & Fri.

I have thought a little bit about what to do for next year, but with DH having to bid and us needing to book at 11 months it gets all complicated AGAIN. We'll be booking in September and he won't bid and know his vacation schedule until close to December 1. Which still puts us 8 months out, so ahead of people who don't have AKV as their home resort, but it could make getting a room tricky!

Elizabeth, why not just make a reservation at DVC for whatever nights you think you might need? You can cancel a reservation with no penalty up to 30 days out - the points are just put back into the UY in which your reservation falls, which would still be your '07 UY. Then, you could bank whatever is left over come August.

You can make changes/cancel less than 30 days out, but the points are put into a Holding Account, which is a different story.

I am not sure I told you all but I was on the principal search committee for Cassidy's school....the principal decided she wanted to be back in the classroom and just the classroom. (I don't blame her a bit...we as a HS community demand a lot from our principal...the gentleman before her set a very high bar...losing a marriage in the process). Well, for as late it is in the hiring season we have an AWESOME new principal as of 10 this morning.

It was painful sitting on the committee with some of these people....if I thought the HS was full of cliques it's worse with their mothers . The funniest thing was the only woman we interviewed looked EXACTLY like my mother. When my hesistation was called into question on another candidate because of his looks (he had a WC Fields nose and body) I had to admit the only candidate I looked at more than to ask my question and introduce myself to was my mom...err the lady interview it was hilarious!!

so ends my posting party...

the local station screwed up this morning...they were supposed to announce the girls birthday and my day went downhill from there...Until my girl got home from school and then the other came home long enough to change and then we went to a birthday dinner...where it went downhill again. Then the final concert of this go round and saying good bye to my mom. Since she was part of the downhill spiral this morning I was actually a bit relieved to see her go and I feel a little bad for it but not to much.

Cassidy then came home and did homework...I think I finally figured out one bonus point for having a birthday in July....no homework, school, concerts to have to do/go to.

Our DDA family has brightened my life immensely the last few weeks and I appreciate you all.

My birthday was finals week every year while I was at Michigan Tech. My 21st birthday everyone had to study. We went out for about 1/2 hour to have drinks at the bar and that was the extent of the celebration for my 21st.

Leighanna's teacher had told me the other day that she was just about out of crayons. So after seeing this idea on the DisBoutiquer's board, I made one for her to take to school.
After all the other kids saw it they wanted one too!

I went to lunch yesterday with Leighanna and all the kids told me they wanted one.
They each told me what color they wanted and I made them last night and today.

I think they turned out pretty good.

If you have any good thoughts left in you today, would you think about our dog, Button? Kristin and I just dropped her off at the vet to have some surgery done. We don't know how "bad" it is going to be, so good thoughts winging this morning would really be appreciated. Thanks.

I got a call from my Dr. He said that my thyroid medicine dosage can be lowered again. I am so happy. This weight loss thing really does affect one in so many good ways



I will be away starting tomorrow till late Monday. We are going down to WV to see our good friends Bruce and Carol. I cannot wait to get some good loving from the puppies and kitties. Plus good food, drink and fun. I think Hal and Bruce will try to save the world at least one night over a bottle of good scotch!!!!

Congrats on your medicine being lowered. Have a great time in WV.

Elizabeth, why not just make a reservation at DVC for whatever nights you think you might need? I have just finished completely GUTTING my middle 10 nights. The first 3 and the last 3 don't change, but I am relentless on those middle nights! So NOW this is what we have:
3 nights AKL concierge, 6 nights SSR Studio (5 nts. on points, 1 cash with the 25% discount) and DxDDP all 6 nights, 4 nights pool view AKL (at RACK RATE but hopefully there will be something better when AP rates come out), and 3 nts. AKV Standard Studio on points. I am waitlisted for one more night of the AKV ressie because I have enough points to cover it. If it comes through I can knock one night off of the pool view room.
Of course that TRASHED my ADRs. And a couple of my park days. I fixed them, but they aren't fixed as well as I would like. I need to keep looking at it. I swapped dinner at Jiko for Narcoosee's, which I think we will like. I need to rewrite my little chart (I am not advanced enough to do it on the computer) and see if there are any gaping holes or glaring inconsistencies that need to be fixed. And I need to tell DH what I did.
The thing that kind of chaps me is that after ALL of that I only saved $60. Losing the AAA discount on that hotel room was problematic. But we'll see what happens when AP rates come out.

Tom-those crayon holders are awesome! Emma saw the Cars one someone posted on the boutique thread and really wants one and I do have the fabric so I should give it a try. I don't think I can do 13 for her class before her last day on Thursday though.


My SIL gave me a $75 gift card to JoAnns for my birthday and I thought I would buy a larger cutting mat with lots left over. I need to get going on Lizzy's patriotic twirl skirt so she can wear it Memorial Day. A rotary cutter would make that so much easier.

Lindsay, is SSR your home resort? Do you like it there?

It is, and we do. Admittedly, that is the only true DVC accomodations we've stayed (by choice), but we've been overall very pleased with it. We really like the grounds, the decor, the ambiance, the pools, views/proximity of DTD, and we also like the CS and TS there.

I was a little less than thrilled with our GV we had there in Dec. of last year, but that was due mainly to what I feel is a completely asinine layout for the master BR in that particularl villa. Other than that, we've always stayed in the studios, and liked them a great deal. (I actually would have traded the GV master BR for the studio layout - the lack of storage for stuff in that master was laughable, and we just found it incredibly uncomfortable. We would have gladly traded rooms with our parents who had the 2 upstairs rooms - those were great! )

I'm actually thinking of changing some of our reservations in Dec. to use points (we didn't think we'd have any until '09), and I'm debating waitlisting at AKV, since we'd be giving up AKL CL to do so. They can only give me 2 nights (weekend nights) right now - will have to ponder. A BWV 1 BR is the only thing completely available for all of my dates at the 7-mo. mark - DVC is definitely getting busier!
