DDA Chapter 5

Sadly after trying for an hour or so, neither Dad nor I was able to salvage files from Phil's old computer. We were trying to boot from a Linux disk like we did to salvage Dad's computer. The sad part is that I found out last night that some of our CD files were bad so I'm missing pics from 3 months of 2006 plus Terra's 3rd birthday trip to WDW in Feb 06. I think that I have a few of the Feb pictures on photobucket, but otherwise it looks like they are gone. :sad1:

Now though, my computer stuff is officially backed up and in two locations. After I pick up Phil, I'll make it officially three locations. Gotta protect those pictures!

So here is a slideshow of the Wynn and Hoover Dam. The rooms were so comfortable! You can buy everything in the room - down to the curtains and the carpeting. I was suprised to find out that the beds are the most popular item (well...not really after sleeping in one!) and is 43% of the hotel sales!
The golf course looks beautiful. Bob was thinking about golfing there - until we found out that a tee time is $500. (Includes cart, cattie, shoes, clubs and use of pro shop amenities.) I'd see Spamalot again in a heartbeat! It was hilarous!
Hoover Dam was...interesting. The drive was beautiful - I wish we could have spent some more time in the city right outside the Dam...it looked so quaint! They are building a new bridge/freeway to bypass Hoover Dam.
Other than that, we didn't do much! The food at The Buffet at the Wynn was wonderful! Even at $32 a person - remind you of anything? ;) - the food was great given they had prime rib, crab legs, sushi, italian, american, etc..etc..and many other stations to pick from! :faint:
Bob and Mom at at Zoozacrackers - two burgers and two cokes for $35 - worth EVERY penny.
Our flight going was fine - no bumps in the air and from MDW to LAS we had the singing flight attendants.
Coming home (into the storm) at about 500 miles away until we landed (plus a 20 minute holding pattern above CLE) felt like we were 4x4ing in a jeep or something. The pilot recieved a round of appause as soon as we touched down - and then again when we stopped at the gate.

PS: Janet - thank you so much! We ended up with A47 and A48.

Anne Marie & Elizabeth how do you deal with the humidity in August at Disney? It does get really warm & humid here in the summer, but then I stay inside as much as possible lol

I am thinking we need to get to the parks early & leave in the afternoon & return at night. Do you all stay at the parks or do you take breaks? I know neither of you like taking breaks, but do you do things differently in the summer?

I will tell you, I am MUCH better in the heat than the cold. I am not one to go out in the heat at home, but the heat at WDW really doesn't bother me. I throw less of a fit about going back for a break in the summer because I get tired faster in the heat. We usually go back for about 2 hours in the middle of the day.

Mom's grocery store had about 5 different Wiggles titles right now. If you're looking for anything in particular or more of them, let me know.

The ones I got her today are "Dance Party" ones for $7 each. My favorite of all time is Wiggly, Wiggly World. If you happen to see it for $14 or less would you grab it for me, please? She only has Wiggle Bay right now and I don't really like it. Also not a fan of Wiggly Gremlins.

I'll check them out. Wiggle Bay and Wiggly Gremlins are very popular around here too. I can live with Bay, but really could do without Gremlins.

God Bless the DDA!!!! It was thanks to several DDAers that Terra's 2-06 birthday trip of the missing photos came together. Apparently, I celebrated that by posting more pics than normal or did a slideshow or something. Anyway, I jsut checked photobucket to see what pictures I had there from that trip and found 91 pictures!! I'm sure it wasn't all of them by any means, but many character pics are there plus a bunch of others. :dance3: I feel so much better about the lost computer now. That was the one thing that I regretted most about losing.

Your welcome!

Great slide show, so glad to hear you had a wonderful time. I agree about 2 days not being enough. When ever Gary & I make it that way again, I would love to stay a little longer. Glad you made it home safely!

Well we ended up with somewhere between
10-12 inches.
:scared1:

I know, I know! I'll work on it today.
However, I got online this morning to make sure I posted this just
for you! Becky had the perfect tank that fit perfectly underneath.
The shirt was just a little big on her and would gape (is that a
word?) at the front. Plus, she is not one to wear low cut shirts anyway. This worked perfectly.

This was Saturday morning at our Tusker House breakfast. The food was delicious. Yummy!
What a wonderful photo! Nice to hear you're having a grand time!!!!

Well, Dad called back around 12:30 to say that he was finally out of the ditch.
Glad he made it home safe!

Bernadette - I am glad Joe's vision is good! The eye Dr. told me that the tests at the school are pretty inaccurate overall, but they do catch some things that need additional testing. Like DS. ;) Oh, and look out for falling moons because he DOES want to wear his glasses to school today!
Hope he made OK today!

Well, I made good use of being snowed in yesterday. I finally got to my "to be sorted" folder of pictures I had uploaded. Got those and everything else reorganized into folders; pulled pictures from the computer crash over and organized them; reloaded all of the old Terra pictures from CDs onto the computer and organized them; and searched out all of the photos across Mom and Dad's computer organizing them. I want to try to recover a few things from Phil's crashed computer today and them I am fully updatesd on photos, having them all organized and ready to back up.

The next step will be to back them up to our external drive again to make sure that everything is covered, then I'll burn them to DVDs. Amazingly enough, I think that all of it will fit on 5 DVDs, if I am calculating correctly. That plus slim jewel cases will be much more space friendly in the firebox than the 15 CDs in regular jewel cases. Best of all, I'll have one more step of protection against losing them all.

Of course, once that is done I have BOXES of pictures to scan and save. :scared: Oh the price of caring about preserving the family history. LOL! If I didn't take them, I don't know where all of Meme's pictures would have ended up. I'm highly contemplating taking a laptop and scanner to Granny's with us next time so that I can start plowing through her piles of pictures too.
That is great! I need to do that. I'm good about backups but I need to organize my photos a bit better-especiall all the clip art and T designs. In iphoto on the Mac every photo is in the library by date. You can put them in any (even multiple) albums and its really just a pointer so the file is only saved once. I've noticed my Mac seems really slow when I have iphoto open as I have over 22,000 photos. Maybe I need to make more backups and take some photos off the Mac.

2 months from today I will be at Disney :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Bernadette are you getting just as excited? :yay:
YES!!!!! And so it Emma!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

I need to vent a bit. Chris and I went on our weight watcher's diet full force Monday morning. I even gave up ALL soda, even my beloved diet cherry pepsi. I'm drinking as much water as I can and supplementing with crystal light. I have been sure not to go over my points, so why is it that I haven't lost ANY weight :confused3 Chris has lost, though he won't tell me how much as he knows that I will be mad that he can lose at the drop of a hat.
I guess I'll just keep on swimming.
I know you can do it!!!

Public Service Announcement:

Colby watched the Today show this morning and he learned that we should not eat burritos. Why you might ask...well there was a lady on the show that wanted to have one baby so she had a burrito and then she had three babies at one time...

She had in vitro not a burrito :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I get tears from laughing so hard at his interpretation :rotfl: :rotfl:
Too funny!!!!

Hi everyone! Back from Vegas! Too short of a trip, that's for sure. The Wynn is beautiful, Spamalot was awesome and The Buffet at the Wynn was delish! Took us an hour and a half to get home from the airport - normally a 40 minute drive. Ice was horrible! We couldn't see any lines on the freeway and almost hit a tree on a road close to home. Lost power about midnight and didn't come back on until 10:30am this morning. I'll have photos up later tonight if I get a chance after class.
:scared1: Glad you're home safe!

Well, I need to get back to work. My new responsibilities have me a bit dazed - hopefully that will pass once we have a handle on all of them.
:wizard:

I must tell you that my boys have behaved so well today. Hunter and Colby have played together all day without a single fight. Nick is doing his own thing. Seeing Hunter and Colby together remind me of how Nick and Hunter used to play together all the time
How nice!!!!!

Princess is SOOOO excited. She said "Princess & Elizabeth go pick up DS?" I told her yes. She said "DS will be so happy to see me!"
How cute!!!

I don't like the heat but I must say I didn't really find it all that bad in August. I think it isn't as hard to take when you're used to it being hot at home. I find it harder to take the 90+ day in October than I do in August. There are SO many places to escape the heat in the parks too. Going to the parks early is key. I do find that I don't eat as much in August.

It has been a while since we watched the Wiggles. I think my favorite was Wiggle Time.

:woohoo: That is great that you found most of your photos!!!

Bernadette - We have Wiggle Time and Yummy Yummy on VHS at my house. Princess watches those when she comes over. They used to have a decent selection of Wiggles DVDs at Target but now they have NONE. I had been looking for them at Ross and today was the first day I was able to find any. I think Blockbuster has them but at a premium price.

Amazon has them. Is wiggle time the one with the old guy singing in the barn and a train song too?

How nice!

Bernadette - You mean Slim Dusty?:rotfl2: I can't remember which one he is on. I know he died and they put a little dedication on one of the DVDs. Princess and I were singing the "Down by the station, early in the morning, see the little puffer-bellies all in a row." this morning.;)

this morning scott called(the guy from the crematorium) to let us know he had shocker's ashes and he was taking them back to the vet fo her to scatter them. when mom said he called i told desi i cant imagine shocker as ashes. she still my big black tongue and tail.:sad1:

yep. I was even thinking of planting some flowers around the angel to "sit" in. i have it right by the front door so when i leave i can always say hi and bye. you can also see it as you turn in the driveway.

well the kitchen remodel starts in may. ugh:faint::eek:

:thumbsup2 That him! He doesn't do "down by the station" does he? I'm sort of mixing two things up right? I may have to watch the Wiggles tonight.

I had a bit of a rough day at work so that might be about my speed tonight. The VP's are having the board of directors meeting in Phoenix tomorrow. So the CFO was asking me all sorts of stuff that required some analysis today. All perfectly reasonable questions but they could have been asked in the first week of January. It wasn't like I didn't have anything else to do either. And it didn't help that I took a Sudafed for my sinus headache today so I was all loopy anyways. THEN....I started looking at some February transactions and this one guy who is always messing everything up totally screwed up his stuff and it certainly looks like he was just being lazy. I think I have no choice but to go to his supervisor about it as this has to be the 50th time he's screwed things up and he just keeps saying "I'm so sorry." He's out this week so I can talk to his supervisor first. They all have the attitude that they are "marketeers" they don't need to worry about finance stuff. BUT they are managers-and the finance stuff is part of their job.:headache: Their boss the AVP has the same attitude but my boss the VP is on my side. Wasn't I just saying yesterday to Jennifer that it was just a budget and wasn't real?:rotfl:
