DDA Chapter 4

Happy Valentines Day Everyone.

Robyn you made the right decision to take the day off & the parents should understand. Do not let them make you feel guilty, do they want their children to get sick as well :confused3

Get lot's of rest today, hope you are feeling better soon :wizard:

This may be way off, but beings you are only running a high temp, might you have some type of infection?

Robyn - you did the right thing. I always feel bad for women that operate daycare in their homes, for this very reason. Take it easy today and get yourself healthy. If you need to close tomorrow too, do it!

You did the right thing! Those parents should have a back up in place, or just not gripe about having to deal with their own kids. I'm behind you 100%

I agree 100%, Robyn. These are the same parents who would bring sick kids to you and expect you top care for them and would be the first to complain if those same kids got sick because they were around sickies in your care! Let it go, but maybe put something in your "contract" next year about it if you think it is necessary to remind them that they need a back up plan!

Thank you all! It's nice to feel validated. I really hate closing but sometimes it is necessary. In my contract I am allowed 5 sick days a year and it states that I won't provide backup. They just conveniently forget that. And anytime we have doctor appointments and such I always find someone to come sit with the kids here.

Glynis- Glad that Alan made it home safely. Be careful out there.

Amy- Have fun this weekend! I can't believe that Kevin doesn't believe you.

Elin- Sorry your sleep was interrupted. But yay for Kristin coming home.

Tammi- Sounds like you had a wonderful evening last night.

Jennifer- I'm glad your appointment went well overall.

For those I missed-'s and :wizard:

Good morning, and Happy Valentine's Day!

Thanks... Lindsay took it at the Party for the Senses in October! Thanks, Lindsay! :goodvibes

That is a great picture of you guys (not because I took it, but because you guys look wonderful and happy!). Love the addition! :thumbsup2

Happy Valentine's Day!

Kevin and I exchanged cards this morning. He gave me last year's card, which he found in his desk recently. :rotfl:

In my card (for him) I wrote, "My real list--only one--Kevin M. Hardman" :lovestruc

He laughed and said, "Not true, but you can fib on Valentine's Day." :teeth:

Hope everyone has a great day. I have lots of laundry and packing to do for our weekend trip.

Aww! :lovestruc

 :cloud9: How sweet! Too bad he didn't buy it. ;) Maybe you should start a manilla folder on him. Then, he'll really know! :thumbsup2

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Good morning DDA. Thank you all for the get well wishes last night. I woke up this morning with a lovely 103 degree fever. Surprisingly I still don't feel horrible. But I am taking it easy today in hopes that I can finally kick this. Last night I went to bed at 7:30 and woke up this morning at 6:30. I can't remember the last time I slept that much.

Bear with me as I rant a bit- So I closed down daycare, which has upset just about everyone. It really infuriates me that when I close and believe me it ain't very often, I get all kinds of guilt and sob stories. I understand it is a huge inconvenience for all involved but for crying out loud I deserve a small amount of respect. I didn't close down because I broke a nail. What makes me upset is that not one parent has a back up in place. But again somehow that's my fault! Normally I would get my sister to help out but she has pinkeye and my niece has strep throat. So I seriously doubt that they should be around the kids.

Back to your regularly scheduled Dissing!

I may pop back in a bit after the girls get off to school. Have a great day.

Robyn - how frustrating for you - both the sickness, and the parents! What boggles my mind - do they really want their children around someone that is running a 103-degree fever? That's insane to me! I'm sure they would just as quickly turn-around and accuse you for exposing their kids to something if you didn't close! :headache: I just don't understand it.

You had every right to close today. Get some rest, and get on the mend! Don't worry about those stupid people!

Bob and I celebrated Vday last night. He loved his photo book, saying it was the most personal gift he has ever received. He got me a box of chocolates and diamond earrings! The kids even got little gifts from him. All in all it was a great night.

Lovely!

Maybe he's priming you for another diamond gift? ;)

I received a coupon yesterday from Airtran for $25 off a flight. The coupon expires on the 17th & I do not think I will get to use it :( I haven't booked our Aug. flights yet as I am waiting for them to come down.

I would love to book a trip just to use the coupon :rotfl: I don't think my work would be to happy about that though :confused3

I am so ready for May, I really need to get away! My sil & bil decided yesterday to take a quick trip, they are leaving today. I would love to be able to do that!

I got the same coupon, Janet! And was actually searching for flights to use it on! Isn't it silly how much $$ we'll look to spend to save $25? :rotfl2:

wouldn't it be great? I have a student whose family will book a weekend trip to Paris, or London, because they find a great deal at the last minute! :upsidedow

I would really love to do this. I get those TravelZoo e-mails each week, and I do think it would be fun to say at the beginning of the year that you're going to take at least one of those deals during the year. Could be quite fun! Or I get weekend deals each week from American for the following weekend - I'd love to jet to Paris for r/t flights at less than $400! Maybe a New Year's resolution for next year...

My chance at hours of undisturbed sleep was lost by 11:00 last night. I am usually awake then, so Kristin called and woke me out of a sound sleep. I was actually dreaming when my cell phone rang. Took a few moments to realize what it was! She has decided to come home for the weekend, which is very nice! :goodvibes

Then, the dog woke me up at 1:45 crying to be let out. When she does that I know she really needs to go, so I got up and took care of her and then got on here to post my Valentine wishes for you all. Read a little to get sleepy again ;) and went back to sleep about 2:30. I never heard Bob get up and move around this morning but the dog woke me up again at 6:45. I asked him to let her out this time and went back to sleep until 8:00! Heavenly!! :cloud9:

I was wondering why you were posting in the middle of the night! Glad to hear it was the dog, and not something illness-related!

I hope everyone has a great day today! Like Glynis, I didn't think we were going to do anything for V-Day, but apparently Jonathan had different ideas, so I'm scrambling, too! Not sure what all he has planned, but I did get a lovely vase of tulips this morning, so that was a nice surprise :lovestruc . (Although I'm the first to tell you that florists commit highway robbery on V-Day!) We won't go to dinner tonight, but have plans to go out Saturday night - the crowds will not be worth it tonight!

If anyone has any last-minute gift ideas, let me know! He really needs some new ties and a new dive mask, so I'm thinking of just telling him that we'll go shopping for those things together. I did order him the WDW monorail t-shirt with the "Por favor..." spiel on it, but it's on backorder, so who knows when it will come in!

I keep thinking about my friend that is at WDW right now, and I'm very jealous. I scheduled them to drop her son off at the Sandcastle Club tonight, and they're to go see IllumiNations and eat dinner at the Yachstman Steakhouse. I want that Valentine's Day! :thumbsup2

Have a great day, DDA! :flower3:

It's not silly!!! ;) (Janet - forward that code to me at work please if you don't plan on using it. I got mine, but I need another for Bob and it's taking FOREVER to get the email for signing up!)

ETA: Nevermind Janet! Robyn beat you to it. Thanks Robyn!!!

ETA Again: Bob and I are going to Vegas!!! We ended up booking on Southwest - it was $150 cheaper! :faint: Staying at the WYNN!!!

Robyn,

It is amazing how parents seem to forget what they read in the contract. We always point out things in the handbook and contract and verbally tell the parent as well, but they conviently forget. I have even made sure to put in their files that we gave them the information. Then there are no excuses.

Lindsay, Wow- Thank you so much for the cd's. :goodvibes They will be put to good use!

Your tulips sound so beautiful!

Your welcome, I saw your post and remembered getting it.

At least I know it just not my parents

I'm just glad the only picture we have from that night doesn't include my cell phone ringing! ;) :rotfl:

when are you going???? :yay:

ETA: I thought you said where! We are going March 2!

Las Vegas! (Don't have to twist Bob's arm on that one - Vegas to Bob is like WDW to me! :rotfl: )
A FAM came across for the Wynn - includes two nights, show tickets to Le Reve, 4 hours of meetings for me which includes site inspection, and then dinner at their buffet. It's only for two nights but it'll be fun! Bob's not fond of "Las Vegas Shows" so Mom is meeting us there and she'll go to the show with me - Bob will sit at the slots. During my meeting, Mom offered to treat Bob to breakfast (if he's still not sitting at the slots) and then we might go to Red Rock or Hoover Dam.

Robyn, I'm sorry you're still feeling lousy and the parents did nothing but aggravate you even more. I know Julie (who used to post on the thread) experiences many of the same frustrations with the parents she deals with with her home daycare. Some people can be so unreasonable. Lots of :wizard: that you are feeling better soon! And, I love your new signature! :)

Chanon, yay for Vegas! Lucky you (and Bob)!

Glynis, I hope you thaw out again soon! My goodness, last night sounds like an adventure for all involved. I hope Alan makes it home for dinner tonight, not bedtime!

:wave2: to everyone else. Hope you're all having a good day.

Lindsay, Wow- Thank you so much for the cd's. :goodvibes They will be put to good use!

Your tulips sound so beautiful!

Glad they made it - hope you guys have fun listening to them. :goodvibes

Thanks - they will be - they're still in bud form, so they haven't opened up yet. ;)

Love the new signature!

I had forgotten about that! :rotfl: :rotfl:

That sounds fabulous! My boss and her DH stayed at the Wynn a couple of years ago, and were very impressed (and she's hard to please).

I think I need to become a travel agent. :rolleyes1

I did some digging - it looks like (per the rules of the hotel stay) it states "one of Wynn's fab u lous shows". So I went online just to see which show we'd be seeing - and see what seats were available. So I check Le Reve (which is what the itinerary is) and lo and behold - it's dark...so Spamalot it is! I'm excited for that but Mom is another story. (Even if John OHurley is in it.) And Bob doesn't get British humour at all...so we'll see who decides to go with me. (Maybe I can get Bob to watch the Holy Grail this weekend...)

Yes :rotfl: I was checking though!
