Sorry to keep complaining about driving in the wacky weather.
So my office was not closed today. The Allentown School District was closed but we were open at 10am, an hour later then normal.
I got a call around 7:45 telling me to come in at 10am. By this point I had no power already. I got another call about an hour later telling me the office is still opening at 10am but I do not need to rush in. So I start clearing off my car, it is pouring still. I get soaked come in to warm up and then go out a second time come in again and go out again and come back in again. It probably took an hour to clean the ice and snow off my car, this was the time outside working on it in the pouring rain.
I dry off, change my clothing. Now I would have loved a hot shower but I have no power, so that wasn't happening. I hop in my car I do not even go a mile and the road is a solid sheet of ice and my car is skating all over the place. I almost flew off the road, more then once. I knew the main roads were not ice covered because I had checked the road cams for the roads I would be traveling. So I keep going I see a 3 car pile up and a tractor trailer all crashed together. There were police car and fire engines there an ambulance is arriving just as I am driving by so 3 vehicles across squeeze on less then two lanes of traffic.
I keep driving a few miles beyond where the accident was and a hear a blaring horn. Look in my rear view mirror and it is a fire truck with its lights going but no sirens. I can not pull over as there is another car in the lane traveling the opposite direction. There is ice, snow and rain to my right. There is normally a third lane in the middle but that is covered in ice. Eventually I found a place that was safe to pull over but I thought I was going to be ran off the road.
I keep going and have no more problems. Roads are wet, flooded in some places, icy in others and it is still pouring but overall it is not to bad driving.
I get to the office and there were 3 other people there. They were like why did you come. I was told to come as soon as I could get there so I did. I left about 2.5 hours later and came home. It was a waste of a day.
Both the Valley Forge and Berks Service Centers were closed personally, I think the Lehigh Valley should have been closed as well. All the schools were closed and lots of people stayed home with their kids. It was pouring all day, barely above freezing and roads are flooding. They did close at 4pm but I am not sure how safe conditions were because I was gone before then.
I understand why they wanted to stay open, but at the same time most people did not come in or only were there a few hours. Personally if they close one office and conditions are crappy elsewhere they should give people the option to stay home if they wanted to. I guess I could have taken it as a sick day. I am sure no one would have batted an eye. It just frustrated me that I was told to come in as soon as possible and then everyone questions why I came in driving so far to get there.
Yeah well another day of work is done. Hope you are all doing well.
