DDA Chapter 3

Reading the DIS! :rotfl:

And thinking about dinner, and working on the plan for our September trip, and debating about opening a bottle of wine to celebrate...

Kathrin got BOTH jobs! :dance3:  :cool1: :yay: :cheer2: :dance3: :yay:  :cool1: :woohoo:

However (and it is a BIG however, to me!)... they are $10,000 apart in salary offers! Of course, the one she wants more is the one offering less money. She countered and they will get back to her on Monday. But, it is definite that she will be headed to Boston now. :yay: :sad1: :woohoo: :sad2:

Congrats! That is terrific news!

Debbie -- keep at this scrapbooking... each page is better and better!

Thanks, everyone, for the good wishes for Kathrin. She is understandably very excited and very scared right now. Although she worked practically full-time the whole way through high school and college (her choice, not ours) and lived in a dorm for 3 years and on her own in an apartment or house for the past 6 years, she has never really lived away from us. I don't consider a little under an hour's drive far away. She realized on the drive home from the airport that she was "leaving home" in a month. That has to be scary for her. I know it is for me! Within the next 4 months or so, Bob and I will truly become empty-nesters (God willing on Kristin's part!! :rotfl: ), I guess. Wow... the possibilities are endless!

Phil Says Six More Weeks of Winter!

Phil's official forecast as read 2/2/08 at sunrise at Gobbler's Knob:

Here Ye! Here Ye! Here Ye!

On Gobbler's Knob on this fabulous Groundhog Day, February 2nd, 2008
Punxsutawney Phil, the Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of all Prognosticators,
Rose to the call of President Bill Cooper and greeted his handlers, Ben Hughes and John Griffiths.

After casting a weathered eye toward thousands of his faithful followers,
Phil consulted with President Cooper and directed him to the appropriate scroll, which proclaimed:

"As I look around me, a bright sky I see, and a shadow beside me.
Six more weeks of winter it will be!"

Good Morning,

I have been up for hours, can't sleep, so here is what I've been doing,
I'm sorry you can't sleep Debbie, but all those pages are wonderful. I want to know where you are getting all of the wonderful Disney embellishments!

Good morning, DDA!

:scared1: why oh why did this darn rat have to see his shadow??!! I can't stand much more...

It went well...it was loud...it was long...but they had a good time.

Physic Eve was a little freaky with some of her fortunes. She used tarot cards...and one point I was getting a little scared.

How was the party Kristine?

It is very strange at our home today.

Becky's boyfriend came for a visit. He is from downstate. It is the first time that we have met him. She met him through friends here a couple of months ago. She has only been with him in person twice (this is the third). They talk daily and chat online all the time. A couple of Chuck's students were in Iraq with him (he is in the Army National Guard and is an MP) and they say he is a nice guy. We just found that out which was a relief because from what we've heard from Becky we weren't sure.

Because of Katrina having her wisdom teeth pulled, her boyfriend came down as well. He doesn't come to our place very much. He is a nice guy but is kind of selfish when it comes to Katrina. His friends and twin brother tend to come ahead of her.

Anyway, it is strange having an equal mix of testerone and estrogen in the house. :lmao:

I'm sure it was a fun evening. :yay: for Katrina doing so well.

Sounds like a good night for lots of ice cream.

I'm having an evening all to myself. The kids are with their dad. So I just got into my fleece jammies and made myself a huge salad (which is now gone). I think I will also have some nachos. Then I will curl up with my laptop and surf the night away, unless I can find something to watch that holds my interest. That usually doesn't happen often. So if any of you want to keep me company, I'll be here!

A quiet house sounds heavenly. I managed to unload 2/3 of my girls. Thinking that just having Lucy would lead to a quiet night but she had other plans. We put her to bed at 9pm and she screamed for an hour or so. After the first 15 minutes Eric went up and got her. She did this the night before as well. I really think it is because she still isn't feeling 100%.

Vicki - Sounds like there were lots of stomach ailments last night! I woke up about 12:30 with my stomach feeling like it was on fire. I went back and forth between our bed and the couch because I could NOT get comfortable. It was after 3 AM before I fell back asleep. We had tacos for dinner so I guess they were too spicy for me. I didn't add any sauce or anything, it was just the regular seasoning packet in the meat.

Tammi - No alcohol for me. But cake. Definitely cake. I still need to get that memory card from DH!:headache:

So DH took his old film camera to the lake the other day and shot a roll of film. This irritates me 1) because his shots were not worth paying to have them developed (he said so himself, and I looked at them and I agree) and 2) he has a BRAND NEW dSLR that he HAD to buy, yet he is shooting FILM? I still say he is disappointed with the new camera but he is too chicken to say it out loud.

I hope you slept better. Cake sounds yummy! Maybe I will have to get one for tonight. We missed Syd's (Molly's best friend) birthday because of the trip so maybe we should just celebrate it tonight. Then Molly won't be upset she missed Syd's party any more!

Great pictures Robyn! I love the way Lucy is looking up in this one like "who the heck is she!" :rotfl:

Thanks! I swear I will do a trip report, once I stop fighting with the photopass site.

It's 822 miles from here. So we could do like Robyn did....drive for 8-10 hours, sleep and be fresh for our first day at the park.

Robyn - do you have any idea about how much you paid for gas? What hotel did you stay at and in what city? Was the cost reasonable? I'm preparing my Color Coded Matrix of Costs. :lmao:

We filled up a total of 6 times at roughly $50 each time.

We drove to exit 3 in Georgia, right at the FL/GA border. We stayed in an Econolodge. Cheap, but clean. There are a ton of hotels off that exit. It was $53 with taxes. Then on the way home, I used Priceline and got a Holiday Inn Express in Roanoke Rapids, NC for $38. That hotel has just been renovated and it was really nice. The drive was not at all bad. We will definitely do it again, hopefully in '09.

oo where..when?

Theresa's mom lives like 15 minutes from me. You can visit here if you like!!!

I'm home!!!! The roads are horrible, but I had not trouble as I was prepared. There wer only 4 of us at work and it was slow, but not as horrible as I had expected. All in all not a total loss :thumbsup2

My 5 kids were very well behaved today. of course Colby took a 3 hour nap so Logan had no one to fight with :rotfl:

Glad you're home safe. One of my boys would sleep all day if I let him, the new one slept about 30 minutes the first week. Thankfully he is up to about 2 hours now.

I hope that varmint doesn't see his shadow!

Me either.

Cheese-Broccoli Soup

4 T butter
1-1/2 c chopped broccoli (all fresh veggies please)
1-1/2 c chopped carrots
1-1/2 c chopped celery
1 small onion diced
1/4 lb. canadian ham, diced
1/4 c water
1/3 c flour
4 c milk
1/3-1/2 lb. velveeta cheese
1/2 can undiluted cheddar cheese soup
1/8 t garlic powder
1 T parsley flakes
1/2 t salt & pepper

Combine butter and veggies, ham and water. Cook on medium heat for 15 minutes. Stir in flour. Slowly add milk. Boil to thicken. Lower heat, add cheeses and seasonings. Do not boil again, just heat through. Use a very heavy pan to keep from scorching the milk. Can be doubled and frozen.

To reheat if frozen (we freeze in single serving sizes): Heat, covered, on high for 4 minutes. Stir. Heat for 1-2 more minutes.

Thanks for sharing!! Sounds delicious.

Good Morning,

I have been up for hours, can't sleep, so here is what I've been doing,

chefmickeys.gif

I really need to take notes, or use the multi quote, so I can respond to everyone.

Chanon - much better!

Tammi - I would choose Rose & Crown, we didn't care for the food at Beirgarten, too much vinegar, but the deserts were wonderful. We've never tried the Plaza, but I enjoy Tony's, after a week of "fancy" food, we enjoy something simpler, I like sitting in the outer section and people watching as we eat.

Bernadette - I say go for it, it's an awful long walk to the Pop bus stop, and carrying Emma would not be a lot of fun.

Glynis - prayers for your niece

Elin - Congrats to Kathrin, I love the baubles!

Heidi - Prayers for your sister

The more I think about it, the more I am considering driving to Disney our next trip, it only takes a little over eight hours. In the past we have driven half way and spent the night, making our arrival early in the am. We do the same thing on the way back, which allows us a pretty full day in the park before heading out, even with two hotel stays we come out way ahead. I do think I'll invest in a GPS system if we start driving, DH and I are famous for taking "scenic" routes.

Debbie, love the scrapbook pages. :wizard: for you that you can continue to get your blood sugars down.

Good morning, DDA!

That was cute!

I would LIKE to be sleeping, but I let the Uncles pick the time. I would also prefer not to have to shower & get dressed this early but since Starbucks is the only place I will go in my pajamas I am going to have to get dressed.

Happy Groundhog Day, all! Those pics crack me up. :rotfl:

Kind of late for construction. :confused3

WOW! I never knew (or even considered) the conversion from rain to snow. Interesting!

I hope she is able to find a couple she is comfortable with! :wizard:

Ouch! See why I overpack?
We were at AK one day when it rained over 3 inches. There were puddles at Pop that were ankle deep just going to the food court that morning. It rained for like 12 solid hours. Not my idea of fun!

:rotfl2:

Debbie, those pages look great! I'm sorry your glucose isn't where you need it to be!

Well, my neighbor "The Knocker" was on the loose again last night.:headache: And I didn't hear anybody's TV, so I really think she just randomly goes on knocking sprees. She knocked off and on from 2 AM - 3 AM. If I wouldn't have been so tired I would have gotten up and stomped REALLY HARD. Or called the police. Or something. Arabella tried to convince me to get up at 5 AM, but I declined. I have a hair appt. at 3 PM but nothing else scheduled so maybe I will take a nice nap after breakfast!

Where did you go for breakfast? Sorry that your sleep was interrupted again.

Glad they had fun. How is Jackie feeling?

I really need to get off of here and accomplish something. Eric is upstairs cleaning the bathroom and he has already cleaned the one downstairs. He has only been up since 915am. I, on the other hand, have been up with Lucy since 7am. The only thing I have accomplished is catching up with you chatty people!

I'm sorry you can't sleep Debbie, but all those pages are wonderful. I want to know where you are getting all of the wonderful Disney embellishments!

Thanks for the comments everyone, as for the Disney embellishments, I just google Disney scrapbooking, go to sites that sell the paper ones, right click the image of them, if they are clear enough. Then I cut out the image n photoshop and use them.

It's that whole 'cut the image in photoshope' that I don't understand. I guess I need to learn how to do that.

She told Bill he was leaving on a trip to Florida in the next week. No clue how she knew.

All sorts of weird things....talked about feelings I had...and then feelings that other people had about me...dark auras around them. It was unsettling...I can't explain it except to tell you it freaked me out. Finally she got to the good health for the family part...so it ended on a good note. Now I know why I never have gone to a fortune teller....plus, this chick really believes she is a psychic, making it all the more weird.

oh, and she told one of the girls 'I see someone with cancer in your life" Her mother had just been diagnosed 2 weeks ago!!!

Scary I tell you

Freaky! But I'm glad that the girls enjoyed it. Sounds fun to me.
