DDA Chapter 26

I had my surgery Friday. The doctor said my joint was very arthritic and that I may need to consider joint replacement in a few years.

He gave me a script for vicodin this time but after feeling queazy taking the first pill I haven't tried it since. I've been taking just the motrin which takes the edge off but the foot is pretty uncomfortable.

I broke my temporary crown yesterday. I've been so careful eating on the other side but broke it yesterday on a cracker. I'll have to call tomorrow and see what the dentist can do. I have an appointment 12/9 to complete the root canal.

Hope you feeling better soon Bernadette :wizard:

we watched the search for Santa paws tonight. cute movie

I tried to watch it with Emma but she said it was too sad so she left. She came back about when the little girl found Santa Paws and liked it from then on. I think I might be able to get her to watch the whole thing now that she knows there is a happy ending.

I also watched Christmas Carol Friday. I enjoyed it but need to watch it again.

Sounds fabulous! When is the next time you are coming to Dallas? And Jason is my favorite too!

I just wish I could get a picture with him..hopefully next time! I probably wont be back to dallas til next preseason--most likely in august.
I was thinking Kohls about the shirts--they have great online sales and are really good about returning to the store if you need to.

Thanks!

Kohls is great with returns. They will take stuff back at anytime-even months & months later.

I am so glad they stopped!

It's fun hearing you all talk about Black Friday. I always go to find a few deals, but I'm not one of those that leaves the night before, or even 4 a.m. I've really missed picking up a few deals, but on=line shopping is okay. I'm just more of a visual person. I need some short sleeved button up tops. I know this isn't the season for short sleeved but the nerve damage in the arm they took out the lymph nodes is going to bother me for a while and short sleeved puts less pressure. Any ideas anyone?

I bought a bunch of short sleeved shirts on clearance at JcPenneys for $1.17 per shirt. The perfect price for restaurant shirts. Kohl's also has short sleeved shirts. Actually I think I've seen them at TJMaxx and Maurice's too. Shouldn't be too hard to find some.

Bernadette give the vicodin another try. I don't tolerate codeine at all, but I was able to tolerate the vicodin when I had my back issues. Hope they can either move up your root canal appt or at least fix the temporary crown.

Bernadette did you take the vicodin with some food in your stomach. Some of my patients have to take it with food. Good luck to you with the tooth.

My dentist is doing the crown but he sent me to an endodontist for the root canal. I'm sure my dentist will fit me in to fix the temporary crown-and hopefully during school hours so DH can take me and I won't have to worry about the kids.

I had eaten some crackers and apple sauce. I'm afraid to try it again because I was so miserable last time vomitting with the oxycodone. DH got me some PM Motrin that I took last night so I've slept through the night the past 2 nights. I think the first 3 days were the worst last time so I should be in less pain tomorrow.

Last time I didn't shower or leave my room until I had a doctor's appointment on Friday-day 5. Tomorrow is day 4 and if I can get a dentist appointment I'll have to try the shower-we do have a shower stool I can use if I have to and I still have the cast cover as I can't get the foot wet until the pin comes out. I had asked my doctor if he'd take the pin out 12/24 as 5 weeks was to have been 12/27 but not with the delay 12/24 is only 4 weeks so I may still have it in for Christmas.

I made my niece a corduroy jumper-I just need to sew on the buttons. I can do that in bed. Then I can get DH to wrap the gifts and get the box in the mail.

I made Lizzy's scout leader who drove me to the hospital and waiting for me and brought me home a tea wallet. It was pretty easy and came out cute so I think I'll try to make a few for coworkers after a week or so.

We didn't get the tree up so I'll have to get DH on that!!! He & the kids are out raking leaves but he gave me a walkie talkie in case I need anything.

I wonder if I'll be able to get him to buy Fantasia that is coming out on Blu Ray this week. Joe really wants it. Maybe if I get a doctors appointment to change the bandage this week he'll stop then-it isn't too far from the doctor's office.

I have some toysrus rewards dollars that expire on tues. plus I have a gift card for them. I am sending Jeff their Tues morning to get Sorcerers apprentice with Nicholas Cage.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the good thoughts and prayers.

I got home on Friday. I've been sleeping in an electronic recliner because it is easier to get in and out of. Last night I tried the bed and that was more comfortable for all night. Everything wears me out. Bathroom trips, showers, walking, etc., but I can already tell that I am getting stronger. Saw the plastic surgeon on Monday and they took all three drains out, so that's made showers and everything easier. I have this one piece zip up lovely girdle thing to wear for the next 6 weeks but it's not too bad. It's hard to get my right arm back in it because that is the arm where they took the nodes and it's fairly sore, but it will get easier. I'm still swollen so they gave me one size for now, then in about two weeks I might be ready for the smaller garment. Everything is swollen right now. Both docs say everything looks great but it sure doesn't look it to me. I walk stooped over like an old lady but my steps are more sure now. I've been lucky that I never got nauseous, dizzy, loopy etc.

Taking valium for the muscle spasms every twelve hours (can't begin to tell you how bad my back and lower back/bottom) hurt and vidocin for the pain. I'm started stretching those to about every 5-6 hours instead of 4 and it's worked pretty good so far. I try to walk as much as I can but I can't get but a loop around the house each time. Arm where they took nodes is completely number under my armpit and the underneath side to my elbow. Sometimes have shooting pains or random pains but they said that is normal and is from nerve damage getting the nodes out.

The best news -- the nodes they took out during the surgery were negative for cancer (nodes during sentinel node surgery were positive so that's why they took more). The first bit of good news we've had and I'm still grinning from the news. It took a while longer to get the results because they were surprised that the cancer is one kind, the two nodes taken 10 days ago were a different kind, and the last surgery produced no new cancer. They can't figure out why two different kinds because of where they were, so they are going to do more testing. As long as the newest nodes taken out continue to be negative, I won't have to do radiation, only chemo. If they had been positive, I would have had to do radiation and chemo.

Chemo will most likely start the week after Christmas. I will lose my hair and they haven't told me how many rounds etc. Right now, the cancer is at a Stage II, so life could be much, much worse.

I can't drive for another week, will need to walk stooped over, and won't be able to sleep on my side for another week, but at that point I can as long as I curl up my knees and put a pillow between them.

We have had a trip to Disney planned for a year now. Doc says I should still be able to go, just with a wheelchair and no thrill rides. We will be there from Dec. 17 - Dec. 23 so if anyone wants to meet up, share park days etc., just let me know. This will be a slower paced trip for us but I'm fine with that.

Thank you so much for the prayers, thoughts, pm's, cards, soup, calls, etc. They have meant more than you will ever know! :goodvibes

Oh, Marci!!! I'm so happy to hear from you!! You have been in my prayers, nonstop since I heard! Sounds like there is good news, at the bottom of all of this. Just remember, that hair grows back! I'm glad you got the ok to go to Disney. This will be a trip to remember, that's for sure! You'll have to do it at a slower pace, and really stop to "smell the roses", but I bet you'll have just as much fun.

Please continue to take care of yourself. I'm just as happy as can be that you are kicking cancer's butt!

Jennifer - Sorry about the bedrest! I feel your pain. I was on bedrest with my twins for all of January up until they were born in March. It drove me crazy! Especially with 2 toddlers running around!

Deb - Sounds like you've been really productive. You could always fly out here and organize my house! It really needs it! Alan has started 2 projects and can't seem to finish either one. I gave him a week to finish installing the wood burning stove, because I need a place to put the tree. Cross your fingers that he gets it done! He built a base for it, and tiled it, so it looks really nice. Just need to get the stove in!

Thanksgiving was wonderful! Dad's house was full to the brim, but I know he loved the noise and bustle! I felt badly leaving him yesterday, but I was happy to see that my niece, who goes to the university there, decided to stay a couple more days at his house. It helps him be less lonely! We're trying to talk him into coming to my sister's house for Christmas. Please keep your fingers crossed that he will. Otherwise, he'll hole up in his house and be all alone. We would go down, but Alan has to work Christmas day, so that's out for us.

I've really got to get a move on with Christmas shopping. I'm about halfway done, but need to get it completed soon! Wish me luck!

Marci - I was going to suggest Land's End too. I imagine going out shopping is not on your schedule yet! I saw lots of short-sleeved tops on clearance at Kohl's today, but I find their sizing to be very uneven. At least with Land's End you know what youi are getting!

Bernadette - Glad your surgery is over with. I hope you can manage the pain with just the Motrin. And your poor mouth!

I didn't realize this was out this week too.

Did you get the $10 coupon on the combo pack?

Good luck finishing your shopping!

Thanks!

I think on sunday I am going to borrow dads wheel chair as he is not using it anymore and have Jeff take us to the outdoor mall near our house. Santa will be their and we can take pics of him and the girls with our camera for free.

I find it hard to get men to finish projects. I think that is why I do everything around here myself. I like to make progress. I still have plenty of projects here to complete, but I'm feeling good about what I've accomplished.

Be careful. Riding in a wheelchair is NOT the same as lying in bed.

We spent a hour or so visiting a DIS friend at the local hospital. Her DH feel off a ladder last Saturday and has been in the ICU (surgery too) since last Saturday night. The was airlifted here. They live about 2 hours away so I've been calling her daily, brought her some food on Friday and we went to sit with her and her family for a bit today. Her DH is doing better and will hopefully be release in 4 or 5 days. We know how hard it is to be stuck in a hospital with nothing much to do.
