Anne Marie....how old is Katie again?

The reason I ask...Jackie is a freshmen...and I am amazed at how the shift has gone to mandatory participation....we were told flat out, that if your child does not participate...they do not belong in the class. The "mother" in me had some trouble with this at first...but she seems to have finally adjusted. She still gets a little freaked out with Accelerated English...you HAVE to participate in class at least 2-3 times per class.

I can understand asking a student to participate in class, but this is Spanish, not dance, or choir. Asking a student to sing and/or dance in front of parents is something that a student would expect if she were in dance/choir. I just don't understand the relevance for a Spanish class.

When you go to the principal, ask what relevance this particular exercise has to Spanish class. Whatever a teacher does has to be relevant to either the Core Curriculum, or a specific lesson/unit. The teacher should be able to explain, to your satisfaction, why this is being assigned. If you don't agree, you should be able to fight it out. Good luck! I can't understand why a Spanish class would be doing it. I could see maybe doing a traditional Spanish folk song or dance, but this is not a performance class, so I'm having a hard time understanding how she could be required to participate.
I'm interested to see what the administration says.
That's what I am saying....this is crazy! of course I will keep you posted..this should be interesting.

eh, nothing surprises me any more...there have been some very odd ideas put forth. I can see the struggles with an introvert. Jackie is borderline...

Odd ideas aside, a teacher should be able to justify an assignment, to the administration and to parents. Hopefully, Anne Marie will get some answers in her meeting and they will be able to resolve this to everyone's satisfaction.

When I taught high school there was a geography teacher who was very odd! He showed his class the original "Father of the Bride" with Elizabeth Taylor, and then threw a wedding reception for his classes. It was very odd. Of course, the kids didn't complain, it meant about 2 or 3 days of movie time, and another day of a party with cake, punch, etc. When a parent happened to find out, the poop hit the fan! The teacher was not able to justify the movie or the party, and was put on leave until his lesson plans could be gone over with a fine tooth comb.

Chuck called me this morning. There might have been a bigger breakthrough on this. Katrina's boyfriend made some mean comments to her last night that makes her realize that she needs to make a bigger break. He is hoping that she will be willing to move "everything" home now. I'll be calling her later tonight to find out how things are.

I'm cautiously whispering "hooray" and jumping up and down. Crossing my fingers for a good outcome!

Vicki, I hope Katrina tells the tool to take a hike.

Does anybody know the scoop on the 2010 DDP? I read something that said the price will fluctuate now with the seasons like the hotel rates? Anyone? We don't like the DDP, but I like to know things.

Tammi,
That's great they offered the swine flu vaccine for your kids throught the school.

We have no swine flu vaccines here. They had the mist but ran out. I didn't want the mist anyway. My kids had the flu shot (seasonal) but not the swine flu one yet.

Life is crazy here & no I am not packed!;) The way it has been here lately this trip just can't come soon enough. :rolleyes1

I'm getting my shot from work. Originally it was for state employees and their families but they are not getting enough so it is now limited to State Employees only. I'm scheduled for one day next week.

I see I managed to post 3 times this morning even though the DIS kept telling me there was an error :headache: I don't know why I try to post before work, it never goes smoothly.

Hunter still has a lot of pain and he started vomiting this morning, probably from lack of food in his tummy. My Dad tried to get him to eat, but he wouldn't. I made him scrambled eggs when I came home and he ate those, so far so good. I took him to school and got his backpack and missing work. Hopefully he will feel well enough to work on it as some point. One of his friends said that she will come over and help him this weekend:goodvibes She was the one kid that stayed with him when it happened and actually talked to him and tried to calm him down while the other kids made comments about how mangled his shoulder looked. She was very upset when they wouldn't let her stay with him until I got there. Very sweet girl.

Now we can sit and wait for the Cable guy to show up sometime between Noon and 4 PM. Nothing like a vague appointment.

I just figured you wanted to make your point clear!!! :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I was trying to figure out what to have for dinner and scrambled eggs sound wonderful. Thanks for the idea.

I hope Hunter feels better soon.

Thriller? Is it a Spanish version? I guess if phillapino prisoners can do it then why not a spanish class :lmao: Seriously I can't imagine it in any school.

Here are the prisoners in their lengthy tribute
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMnk7lh9M3o&NR=1

I thought that was awesome. It kept the prisoners busy and had them work together as well. What a feat! My staff support the state prisons so I've been in several of them. I can't imagine getting all of them to work together as long as they would have to get this down.

I understand the participation side of things as long as it relates to the subject being taught. For people to be successful, they have to learn to participate. However, having to participate in a Thriller Dance for Spanish class is crossing the line.

I'm not saying I don't think it's weird (I do)....I'm saying that teachers sometimes do things that we we as parents think is odd...but that they have a reason for...perhaps a team building exercise etc. Trying to give the teacher a small amount of slack here...

See what the person says...go with an open mind...and go from there

Thanks, Chanon!

$46.99 per person, per day, for the plain DDP? :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:
NO FLIPPIN' WAY!!!!

That's $141 per day, PLUS tips!

This year we averaged $142 per day, all inclusive! OK, so we had 10 nights concierge so there were a lot of mornings we didn't buy breakfast, but HELLO? The DDP is NOT for us!

Open mind?! Why would I want to have one of those?! :lmao:

I'm being sarcastic. I found out that I'm being called Queen Victoria at work by one of the managers and her team. I have bent over backwards trying to find creative ways around all the hand tying happening due to the budget crisis.

On the serious side, you are right! There could be a legitimate reason (which I cannot fathom at this time) and an open mind is important when going in to discussions like this. That is what I tell my managers and teams all the time.

Welcome to the non DDP side :rotfl: I've been saying that ever since 2 of my kids became Disney adults. We can't justify the cost for the small amount of food that the kids eat (not so much Nick now, but Colby eats way more then Hunter) we'll stick to paying OOP for our meals :thumbsup2

Queen Victoria??!! Sorry...but that cracks me up:rotfl:
